Algoma University Sault Ste. Marie offers over 25 scholarships and awards, of which 10 reach Indian applicants directly. The top international award, the Chancellor’s Award, pays CAD 20,000 (INR 13.76 Lakhs) across four undergraduate years. Thesis-track master’s candidates add CAD 22,000 per year (INR 15.13 Lakhs) through a guaranteed TA and RA package.

  • Standard international UG tuition (2025-26): CAD 21,525 per year (INR 14.81 Lakhs).
  • Net UG tuition with Chancellor’s Award: CAD 16,525 per year (INR 11.37 Lakhs).
  • Highest guaranteed PG package: CAD 22,000 per year (INR 15.13 Lakhs) for MSc Biology and MSc Computer Science (Thesis).
  • Next entrance-scholarship deadline: March 1, 2027 for Fall 2027 first-consideration cycle.

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 CAD = INR 68.79 as of September 2026. Algoma bills tuition and awards in Canadian dollars; INR values shift with FX movement.

Algoma University Sault Ste. Marie Scholarships for UG Students

Four automatic international entrance awards cover the CBSE, ISC, and state-board Class XII grade grid. Indian applicants qualify by admission file alone; no separate essay or interview is required.

ScholarshipAmount (CAD / INR)Eligibility (Class XII aggregate)RenewableDeadline
Chancellor’s AwardCAD 5,000/year (INR 3.44 Lakhs); up to CAD 20,000 (INR 13.76 Lakhs) totalA+ average of 90 to 100%; IELTS 7.0 or equivalentYes, up to 3 additional years at 3.5 Algoma GPAMarch 1, 2027 (Fall 2027 intake)

Dean’s AwardCAD 1,000 (INR 68,790)B+ average of 80 to 84.9%NoMarch 1, 2027
Award of ExcellenceCAD 500 (INR 34,395)B average of 75 to 79%NoMarch 1, 2027

The Chancellor’s Award anchors the international entrance ladder. Indian applicants need a 90%+ Class XII aggregate and IELTS 7.0 with no band under 6.5. Full-time enrollment means 15 credits per term for the Chancellor’s Award and 12 credits per term for the other three awards.

Renewal for the Chancellor’s Award requires a cumulative Algoma GPA of 3.5 across the previous full-time year. The Computer Science Award of CAD 2,500 per year closed with the Spring 2026 intake. Indian applicants entering Fall 2026 or later cannot stack it.

Reddit Insight: Threads on r/StudyInCanada flag that Algoma’s awards run on flat bands, not sliding scales. A 91% Class XII score and a 99% Class XII score both draw the same CAD 5,000 Chancellor’s Award, so ranking beyond band matters little.

Algoma University Sault Ste. Marie Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students

Graduate funding at Algoma splits into two tracks: guaranteed research packages for thesis-based master’s, and donor-sponsored awards for coursework or non-thesis routes.

Indian applicants aiming at the strongest funding profile should target MSc Biology or MSc Computer Science (Thesis). The guaranteed TA and RA together deliver CAD 22,000 (INR 15.13 Lakhs) per year. That package offsets around 90% of the CAD 24,532 international PG tuition ceiling.

The Dr. Cameron Memorial adds a competitive top-up for MSc Biology candidates with volunteer community work. It does not stack with CGS-M, OGS, NSERC, or SSHRC funding under Algoma policy. See the full Algoma PG program list for eligibility notes by degree.

Coursework programs (MBA, MSc Business Analytics, MGBE, MEd) rely on competitive TA slots at CAD 26.50 per hour for up to 10 hours a week. Indian applicants should confirm slot availability with the program office before paying the deposit.

Reddit Insight: Users on r/gradadmissions note the guaranteed CAD 22,000 TA and RA package applies only to the two thesis-based master’s programs. MBA and Business Analytics students report zero automatic funding at admission and rely on donor bursaries plus part-time TA hours.

India-Specific Scholarships at Algoma University Sault Ste. Marie

Algoma University Sault Ste. Marie does not publish an India-branded scholarship or India-only bursary. All four international entrance awards remain open to Indian applicants who submit the admission file by March 1.

The grade-conversion table below maps the Indian Class XII aggregate to Algoma’s four grade bands.

Algoma Grade BandClass XII CBSE / ISC / State AggregateBest-Fit AwardAnnual Value

B (75 to 79%)75 to 79%Award of ExcellenceCAD 500 (INR 34,395)

Indian applicants on a 10-point CGPA must convert to percentage using their board’s official mapping. State-board aggregates are read at their published percentage figure. IB candidates need 34+ points to reach the Chancellor’s Award tier.

Two stacking rules matter for Indian applicants. Entrance awards cannot be stacked on top of each other; only the highest-band award you qualify for applies. Entrance awards can be paired with the guaranteed TA and RA package at the MSc stage. For a full Algoma international fees breakdown, review the cohort-year rate card before deposit.

Algoma University Sault Ste. Marie PhD and Doctoral Track Funding

Algoma University Sault Ste. Marie does not confer PhDs as of 2026. The doctoral pipeline runs through the two thesis-based master’s programs.

Indian applicants using Algoma as a research-master’s launchpad should map the funding awards below to plan the doctoral hop.

AwardAmount (CAD / INR)Program StageIndian Applicant AccessDeadline
Canada Graduate Scholarship, Master’s (CGS-M)CAD 17,500 for 12 months (INR 12.04 Lakhs)During Algoma MScBlocked. Canadian citizens, PR, protected persons onlyDecember 1, 2026

Canada Graduate Research Scholarship, Doctoral (CGRS-D)CAD 40,000 per year for 3 years (INR 27.52 Lakhs/year)Post-Algoma PhD entryBlocked at doctoral apply stage without PRInstitution-set; rolling

The three federal awards below carry a citizenship gate that blocks most Indian applicants on a study permit.

  • CGS-M: Requires Canadian citizen, PR, or protected-person status at application.
  • CGRS-D: Same citizenship gate; blocks study-permit holders.
  • NSERC / SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships: Same rule; open only after PR.

OGS is the accessible provincial track for Indian applicants during Algoma MSc study. The Ministry sets each university’s OGS quota, and Algoma’s quota per cycle is small. Review the Algoma University ranking profile to gauge which research clusters attract external funding weight.

Reddit Insight: Users on r/gradadmissions confirm that CGS-M’s citizenship restriction blocks most Indian master’s students at Canadian universities. The CAD 17,500 award only opens after PR, which typically follows post-graduation work permit years.

External Government Scholarships for Algoma University Sault Ste. Marie Students

Indian applicants at Algoma should map external Canadian and Indian government awards alongside institutional entrance scholarships. Some Ontario and India-side awards remain fully open to study-permit holders.

KC Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies AbroadUp to INR 10 Lakhs (loan-scholarship hybrid)Indian citizen admitted to overseas PG program; competitive interviewTentative March 31, 2027 (annual cycle)

National Overseas Scholarship carries the largest cash value for eligible Indian applicants. It funds full international tuition and adds a monthly stipend. Category eligibility (SC / Denotified Nomadic Tribes / Landless Agricultural Labourers) is strict.

KC Mahindra remains open to all Indian citizens by merit. The award is competitive and interview-driven, with roughly 50 awards issued each annual cycle.

Reddit Insight: Indian applicants on r/IndiansinCanada report that OGS allocations at smaller Ontario universities like Algoma run one or two international slots per year. Ranked applicants list a backup Ontario school on the OGS form to preserve the award if quota fills.

I chose this college because some of my friends had graduated from this college and were able to get an internship and a job post completion (on their own merit). And they offered a 2 year program with 4 months break and co-op. Other colleges either offer 1 year program in HRM or 8 months program. This was the best option economically and getting a work visa wise.

I received my scholarship based on my class 12 final results where I had a 90 average. So I was automatically granted it based on that and my academic transcripts.

It was very straightforward and I received my LOA and my scholarship within a month of applying. I got a bunch of information from webinars hosted by the university as well. I further had support from my school and my agent .

The campus is noticeably small and lacks fundamental amenities such as a library or a gym, along with other essential facilities. Moreover, the quality of teaching is subpar, necessitating the need to seek external resources like YouTube or other websites to comprehend the subject matter adequately. Additionally, there is a scarcity of professors who possess effective teaching skills.

I participated in one of the webinars and won the prize of 100$ in the form of a bursary. I received the receipt as well which I used to file a tax return. Moreover, at the beginning of the program all students get a bursary I guess 1000 $ from University.

The AU is the best educational institute. I am the live example. Instructors, Management, Students Association - Thunderbirds, the entire staff, etc all are so supportive and down to earth. Whenever I needed help, I always got prompt support. I really admire the education system, the programs, and the teaching style of the AU. Students are given opportunities in every field to become confident to enhance their knowledge. I can write a full book on the AU. In a nutshell, any international or national student can apply to the AU for a bright future. With regards:) Ridhina

Algoma Entrace Scholarship for International Students (South-Asia): 6000 CAD Bursary on Entire tuition fees. It is for every student who applies to Algoma, the bursary will be there in Final/ Full offer (Not in Pre- Offer).

Algoma has two Campuses: Sault St. Marie & Brampton, I choose Brampton campus because it is the only university which has Campus in Brampton Downtown plus it's a good university academically! If you want to explore the local/ regional areas of Ontario, Sault St. Marie is the best campus for you. For city (downtown) life, Algoma has Brampton Campus which is connnected to Bus & subway terminals of GTA. Furthermore, courses at Algoma are field specific and provides the opprtunity to get onboard with big MNC players like Deloitte, Amazon, etc. Graduate Certifcates are of 2 years which enables upto 3 years of PSWR (Post Study Work Rights) for an International student. Additionally, there is an official break of 4 months in between where an international student can work full-time legally (for Graduate Courses only).
