Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- Humber College has a good reputation amongst other colleges and it is even ranked higher than some universities. It has good relationships with multiple industries, which makes networking a lot easier compared to other colleges.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- It requires a very strong background and portfolio, which I did not have at the time of applying. This university is ranked 2nd in the country, which makes the acceptance rate very low, so it is very difficult to get in.

Tips to enhance your application
- A good portfolio, good academics, and some experience would help for sure. Willingness to learn and adapt to the changing conditions should be mentioned in the SOP. If there are any backlogs or less marks, it should be explained in brief.
Admission Experience
- I chose Canada because it was the cheapest option amongst other countries and also because of the IT boom in the country. Humber has a great reputation in Ontario; it is also ranked above a lot of universities in Canada.
- I have chosen the Enterprise Software Development course, which is a great course to start if you have a background in computer science as it offers industry-level curriculum.
- Humber has 4 campuses in Ontario: 1. In the heart of the Downtown Toronto, 2-North,An hour from om downtown, 3-Lakeshore 4- Guelph.
- The college hosts multiple networking and recruitment events per semester, which opens up more opportunities. There are other cultural and non-cultural events that keep happening almost every week, which makes students feel part of the college. Overall, it is great to be admitted in Humber.
Class Schedule
- I have 7 subjects per semester and all of these subjects have 1 class per week. In-person classes are mostly only 2-4 days a week, giving students enough time for part-time jobs. Class timings could be anytime from morning 8 till 10pm when the campus closes.
- The average class strength would be around 30-40 per class and the majority of the students are Indians. Almost all the assignments are in class activities so it doesn't take a very long time so you have plenty of time for self-study.
Faculty
- Faculties are the best part of Humber; most of my faculties are in their early 30's so they make a good connection with the students and all the faculties help with references for almost every student if they fulfil their own criteria's.
- My favourite faculty is definitely Meena, who is our capstone guide. She has been a part of Humber for more than 15 years and she brings in at least 20-30 industry professionals at every networking or capstone event.
Campus Life
- Humber has 4 campuses, which host a diverse range of programs and resources to support student life. Facilities include libraries, gyms, indoor/outdoor sports and also student wellness centres. The student body of the college is also very active in hosting events and celebrating all the festivals.
- There are multiple clubs that you could be a part of, every semester there are elections for the student body. Humber also has its basketball, Cricket and hockey teams, which compete with other colleges.
Part Time Jobs
- Mostly Indian students or almost all the immigrants prefer working in restaurants because, because of the tipping culture, you can earn more than your monthly pay only in tips. It is difficult to find jobs initially but as people start knowing you, it gets easier.
- It is difficult to get the first job, but once you get the first job its very easy to keep switching because of the Canadian experience on your resume. The usual process to apply for jobs is through Indeed, LinkedIn or walk-in to handout resumes, which works a lot better than any website.
- It is difficult to find part-time jobs in winters because of the severe cold. From March, it is very easy to find part-time jobs. Very few students get on-campus jobs at the minimum wage, which is 17.75/hour currently.
- For the internships, it depends upon the hiring season and candidates. Students with great networks and amazing portfolios get hired very easily. Networking is the most important thing. It is expected that students have a good LinkedIn profile, which Humber resources help in building. For students, a maximum of 24 hours a week is permitted during the semester and 40/week during semester breaks.
Placement
- 80–90% of students graduating from Humber secure a full-time job with 6–8 months of program completion but it completely depends on the individuals and their networks. From the first month itself, Humber helps students to make networks with industry professionals and the rest is up to the students how they convert these connections into referrals and then to job offers. Salary ranges from 60 to 120 thousand dollars annually for IT students.
Accommodation
- The best way to find accommodation is through Facebook Marketplace and through various Facebook groups. Agents also help in getting good accommodation options but they are usually more expensive than the ones listed on the marketplace. Overall, it is not very difficult to find a good house, even on a tight budget.
