Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Indian applicants must clear a Class 12 or bachelor’s academic threshold, an English test, and a WES credential evaluation.
PG requirements:
- Bachelor’s with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended) from a UGC-recognised university
- IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 88 (out of 120) / 4.5 (out of 6)
- WES ICAP transcript evaluation for all Indian degrees
- Two letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, resume
UG requirements:
- Class 12 with 65% to 80% (recommended); CBSE, ICSE and state boards all accepted
- IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) with equivalent scores on English tests accepted in Canada
- Two letters of recommendation and a personal statement
Accepted English tests, as per the FDU Vancouver English proficiency page, are IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 88 / 4.5, PTE Academic 62 (R55, L55, S55, W60), Duolingo 120 (no subscore below 115), iTEP 4, and Cambridge B2 First / C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency at 176.
Key insight: Applicants below the IELTS 6.5 threshold can enter through the Integrated Learning Centre pathway, avoiding a full re-take and keeping the Winter 2027 offer valid.
Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver Acceptance Rate 2027
Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver has an acceptance rate of 87% (estimated) across undergraduate and graduate programmes, positioning it as a moderately selective US branch campus in Canada.
The 87% estimate reflects a large-portfolio private US institution rather than a competitive Canadian public research university. Indian applicants who meet the academic and English minimums are highly likely to receive an offer.
The tighter filter for Indian students is the Canadian study permit interview, not the FDU admission decision itself.
Reality check: A high acceptance rate does not lower the study permit bar; visa officers still verify funds, ties to India and genuine student intent regardless of the offer letter.

- Location and transit: Central Vancouver campus with direct SkyTrain and bus access via TransLink (Metro Vancouver’s public transit network)
- Housing: No on-campus residence; shared apartments in Metrotown or Burnaby cost CAD 900 to 1,400 per month (INR 61,425 to INR 95,550)

- Indian community: Vancouver hosts one of Canada’s largest Indian diasporas, with grocery, food and religious infrastructure in Surrey and South Vancouver

What Indian students say: Class sizes stay small enough that professors know each student by name, and the downtown location cuts commute time. Housing costs and the absence of on-campus dorms are the two consistent complaints.

Key insight: Indian applicants using ranking for study permit narratives should cite the US News regional standing plus the CEOWORLD hospitality rank rather than global QS/THE tables, which FDU does not enter.

Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver vs Peer Universities
Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver competes with British Columbia’s private and public institutions offering business, IT and hospitality programmes to international students.
| University | QS World 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD/CAD) | Avg Annual PG Fee (INR lakh) | Differentiator |

[Source: US News, QS World University Rankings 2027, Collegedunia Study Abroad Rankings 2026]
Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver stands out by offering an American-accredited degree without leaving Canada, and by keeping class sizes small compared with UBC or SFU. The trade-off is the absence of a global research reputation that public Canadian universities carry.
Verdict on Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver
Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver fits Indian applicants who want a US-accredited degree, a Canadian PGWP pathway and a small-campus experience, with a total investment of USD 34,350 to 91,680 (INR 32.63 lakh to 87.10 lakh) against a BC market median starting salary of CAD 55,000 to 70,000 (INR 37.54 lakh to 47.78 lakh). The PGWP route is the single strongest Indian-specific advantage.
It is not the right pick for applicants chasing a QS top-100 brand, heavy research funding or on-campus residence. Those students should compare Simon Fraser University or the University of British Columbia before locking in a decision.
Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver FAQs
Ques. Does Fairleigh Dickinson University Vancouver accept the Duolingo English Test?
Ans. Yes. FDU Vancouver accepts the Duolingo English Test for both undergraduate and graduate admission. The minimum accepted score is 120 overall with no individual subscore below 115, as listed on the official FDU Vancouver English proficiency page. Duolingo is a common route for Indian applicants who cannot secure an IELTS slot before an intake deadline, and results are usually returned within two days.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at FDU Vancouver?
Ans. Yes. Full-time international students at a designated learning institution can work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during regular study sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks, subject to IRCC rules. FDU Vancouver is a designated learning institution, so an FDU study permit automatically carries these work rights without a separate work permit application.
Ques. Is there a GRE or GMAT requirement for FDU Vancouver graduate admission?
Ans. No. FDU Vancouver does not require GRE or GMAT for any of its master’s programmes, including the MSACS, MAS, MHMS and MHA. Admission is based on the bachelor’s transcript, English test score, statement of purpose and letters of recommendation. This makes FDU Vancouver attractive to Indian applicants who want to avoid a standardised graduate exam.
Ques. What documents must Indian applicants send to FDU Vancouver?
Ans. Indian applicants must submit the online application, all secondary and post-secondary transcripts with certified English translation, a WES ICAP credential evaluation, an English proficiency test score, two letters of recommendation, a personal statement, a resume, and a copy of the passport biographic page. Graduate applicants also need programme-specific essays; hospitality applicants benefit from including industry work experience.
Ques. How much is the FDU Vancouver application fee for Indian students?
Ans. The application fee is USD 100 (INR 9,498) per programme application at FDU Vancouver, payable online by credit card. This fee is non-refundable and applies to undergraduate and graduate applications alike. Indian applicants also pay a tuition deposit of USD 8,500 (INR 8.08 lakh) after receiving an offer if they apply from outside Canada, or USD 1,800 (INR 1.71 lakh) if already in Canada on a valid permit.
Ques. Are FDU Vancouver degrees recognised for Canadian permanent residence pathways?
Ans. Yes. FDU Vancouver is a designated learning institution recognised by IRCC, so graduates qualify for the Post-Graduation Work Permit and can use Canadian work experience toward Express Entry and the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program. The FDU degree itself is US-accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, giving Indian graduates dual recognition for US employers and Canadian immigration.
Ques. Do Indian applicants need SAT or ACT scores for FDU Vancouver undergraduate admission?
Ans. FDU Vancouver does not mandate SAT or ACT for standard undergraduate admission, and Indian applicants can apply with only Class 12 results and an English test. However, the Colonel Fairleigh S. Dickinson Scholarship requires either SAT 1280+ or ACT 27+ alongside a 3.5/4.0 GPA for eligibility. Applicants targeting the largest merit award should sit at least one of these tests.
Ques. What is the refund policy if an Indian student withdraws from FDU Vancouver?
Ans. FDU Vancouver publishes a tiered tuition refund schedule linked to the withdrawal date within the term. Students withdrawing before the first day of classes receive the full tuition minus the application fee and non-refundable deposits; refund percentages then decline weekly. The tuition deposit paid before arrival is usually applied to the first term rather than refunded, so Indian students denied a study permit should retain the visa refusal letter to request a full refund.

Overview
I got to know about the university through the consultant in India, the process was simple, I submitted my docs along with some requirements like IELTS, the fees for one course was about 3000 CAD. I applied for 3 other universities in USA. I liked the weather of Vancouver along with the opportunities to do things outside campus.
Fees
No scholarships are available for international students and the fees for us was pretty high, it was about 3000 CAD per course. There are many banks in India which provide education loans with zero interest, also some states in India which one providing scholarships to international students. Look out for it.
