Sprott School of Business Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

The single most important requirement for Indian applicants is a verified academic transcript. It must meet the programme-specific grade cutoff and be evaluated by World Education Services.

  • Bachelor’s degree: Four-year Bachelor’s with 73% or CGPA 5.85/10 for the MBA (recommended). 70% or CGPA 5.6/10 for MAcc, MFin and TIM (recommended). 87% or CGPA 6.96/10 for research MSc Management (recommended).
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 per band. TOEFL iBT 87 overall with 22 per component. PTE Academic 60 overall with 60 per band. Duolingo English Test 125 overall.
  • Standardised tests: GMAT 550 minimum for the Sprott MBA (515 for GMAT Focus Edition), or an equivalent GRE. GMAT 600 for research MSc Management. MAcc, MFin and TIM waive the GMAT.
  • Credential verification: WES ICAP evaluation of Indian transcripts is standard. Budget four to six weeks after Sprott receives your file.

Key insight: Sprott accepts the Duolingo English Test 125 for graduate and undergraduate entry. Indian applicants can take the test at home in 48 hours and skip IELTS wait-lists at Ottawa test centres.

Sprott School of Business Acceptance Rate 2027

Sprott does not publish a school-wide acceptance rate. Third-party estimates for the parent Carleton University place the overall figure at 43% (estimated). Graduate business programmes at Sprott sit lower because GMAT, GPA and work-experience filters apply.

YearAcceptance RateTrend
2026 (Carleton University)43% (estimated)Stable
2025 (Carleton University)43% (estimated)Stable

MBA admission is more selective than the umbrella figure suggests. The applicant pool self-filters on GMAT 550 and two years of work experience. Applicants with GMAT 620 or above and IELTS 7.0 report the strongest offer rate at the two Fall interview rounds.

Reality check: The 43% figure is a Carleton-wide estimate and reads as more generous than the actual Sprott MBA yield. Treat it as a floor and build a competitive profile above the published cutoffs.

An Indian MBA student at Sprott should budget CAD 71,000 to CAD 78,000 per academic year. That is INR 49 lakh to INR 54 lakh at the current rate. The figure covers fixed tuition of CAD 46,374 plus off-campus living costs of CAD 25,000 to CAD 32,000.

Sprott Tuition Fees for Indian Students 2027

Sprott School of Business Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Sprott sits on Carleton’s 62-hectare south-Ottawa campus. It stands between the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River, a 12-minute O-Train ride from Parliament Hill.

  • Location and transit: Carleton Station on O-Train Line 2 puts campus one stop from downtown Ottawa. UPASS transit is included in tuition.
  • Housing: Carleton guarantees residence to first-year undergraduates who apply by 1 June. Rooms cost CAD 1,300 to CAD 1,700 per month; graduate students typically live off-campus in Old Ottawa South.
  • Facilities: The Nicol Building is a dedicated CAD 66-million Sprott home opened in 2022. It houses trading rooms, behavioural-research labs and case-study classrooms.
  • Indian community: The Carleton Indian Students’ Association and the Sprott Business Students’ Society together support Diwali events, cricket teams and a formal dinner every winter term.

What Indian students say: Recent Indian graduates describe Sprott as smaller and more accessible than Toronto business schools. Faculty reply to email within a day. Students highlight the federal-sector co-op pipeline and the walkable Rideau Canal Skateway in winter.

Carleton has slipped from #741-750 in QS 2025 to #781 in 2026 and #801-850 in 2027. The trend fits Canadian mid-sized research universities under tightened international caps. Sprott itself has held its Canadian MBA position steady since 2021.

Key insight: The Corporate Knights Better World MBA position matters for Indian applicants targeting ESG-facing employers. Canadian visa officers accept Sprott’s AACSB accreditation as evidence of institutional quality during study permit review.

Sprott School of Business Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Sprott’s overall employment outcomes are strongest for the MBA and Bachelor of Commerce cohorts. Both draw on Ottawa’s federal-sector and technology employer base.

  • MBA employment rate: 94% within 12 months of graduation, as per Sprott’s most recent published outcomes.
  • Average MBA starting salary: CAD 84,000 (INR 58.0 lakh), based on Sprott graduate self-reported data.
  • Top recruiting sectors: Federal public service (Treasury Board, Canada Revenue Agency), Big Four accounting (Deloitte, KPMG, EY, PwC), technology (Shopify, Nokia Ottawa) and financial services (RBC, TD, BMO).
  • Careers support: The Sprott Career Development Centre runs employer info sessions, mock interviews and CPA Ontario recruitment events across both academic terms.
  • Post-Graduation Work Permit: Sprott Master’s graduates qualify for up to three years of open PGWP work in Canada, the standard route to Express Entry residency.

Insider note: Ottawa federal-sector recruiting favours Canadian citizens and permanent residents for policy roles. Indian MBA graduates target CPA-track accounting firms or technology employers first, then transition after PR.

Sprott School of Business vs Peer Universities

The peer set below compares Sprott against three Canadian business schools with a similar full-time MBA structure. One cross-country reference at Rotman completes the set.

Business SchoolQS Full-Time MBA Canada 2026Avg Annual MBA Fee (CAD)Avg Annual MBA Fee (INR lakh)Differentiator
Sprott School of Business (Carleton)#1746,37432.0 lakh16-month MBA in Ottawa with federal-sector access
Telfer School of Management (Ottawa)#852,65036.4 lakhBilingual MBA with CFA-track finance stream
DeGroote School of Business (McMaster)#1262,86043.4 lakhCo-op MBA with 12-month paid work term
Schulich School of Business (York)#391,30063.1 lakhFull-year international exchange and broad MBA specialisation range
Rotman School of Management (Toronto)#1131,80091.1 lakhHighest Canadian MBA salary uplift and consulting recruiter access

Sprott stands out as the lowest-total-cost pathway inside the QS-ranked Canadian MBA top 20. Indian applicants targeting Ottawa’s federal, tech and accounting employers get comparable regional access at half the Schulich or Rotman fee.

Sprott fits the Indian applicant who wants an AACSB Canadian MBA under INR 45 lakh. The Professional MBA at CAD 61,832 total plus INR 22 lakh living cost delivers investment recovery inside two years. The federal-sector plus CPA Ontario pipeline gives Indian graduates a defensible plan.

Sprott is not the right fit for applicants chasing global brand recognition or premium consulting recruiting. A Rotman, Ivey or Schulich offer will out-recruit Sprott at McKinsey, BCG and Bain. If Ottawa is not a fit, Telfer School of Management next door is a bilingual alternative. Telfer sits higher in the QS Canadian MBA rank.

Sprott School of Business FAQs

Ques. What English-taught graduate programmes does Sprott offer beyond the MBA?

Ans. Sprott offers seven English-taught graduate programmes beyond the standard MBA. These are the Professional MBA (weekend delivery) and the fully Online MBA. MSc Management runs a research stream and a Technology Innovation Management stream. Master of Accounting, Master of Finance, MEng Technology Innovation Management and a PhD in Management complete the graduate slate. All are English-medium. Indian applicants can enter for the Fall 2027 intake with a 1 March 2027 deadline.

Ques. How many hours can Sprott students work off-campus during their studies?

Ans. Full-time international students at Sprott can work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic terms. Full-time work is permitted during summer and winter breaks. The 24-hour cap is the standard IRCC rule effective 8 November 2024. On-campus work carries no hour cap. A Social Insurance Number is required. Indian students obtain it at any Service Canada office in Ottawa within one week of arrival.

Ques. Can Indian applicants waive the GMAT for the Sprott MBA?

Ans. The Sprott MBA does not offer a blanket GMAT waiver. Every applicant must submit a GMAT score of 550 or higher. The GMAT Focus Edition equivalent is 515. A matching GRE score is also accepted. Applicants with a Chartered Accountant or CPA credential can request an individual waiver review. The Sprott admissions committee approves these case by case rather than as a policy.

Ques. Does the Sprott MBA require an interview or portfolio for admission?

Ans. The Sprott MBA requires an interview but no portfolio. Shortlisted applicants receive an invitation to a 30-minute video interview four weeks after the application deadline. The interview covers career goals, work experience and fit with the 16-month structure. A Statement of Intent and a professional resume replace any portfolio requirement. Both must be uploaded through the Carleton graduate applications portal.

Ques. What is the Sprott application fee and can Indian applicants get it waived?

Ans. The Sprott MBA application fee is CAD 175 (INR 12,089). Other graduate programmes cost CAD 120 (INR 8,290). Undergraduate applications cost CAD 100 (INR 6,908). Carleton does not offer application-fee waivers for international students. The payment is non-refundable. Indian applicants must pay by Visa, Mastercard or Interac at the point of application submission through the Carleton portal.

Ques. Which Indian education loan providers recognise Sprott School of Business?

Ans. Carleton University is on the approved lists of every major Indian lender. These include HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, InCred, ICICI Bank, SBI and Bank of Baroda. Non-collateral loans up to INR 50 lakh are typical for the Sprott MBA. Collateral-backed loans up to INR 1 crore cover four-year Bachelor of Commerce programmes. Prodigy Finance also lends to Sprott MBA students without an Indian co-signer.

Ques. Can dependents accompany Indian Sprott students to Ottawa?

Ans. Yes, Indian Sprott students can bring a spouse and dependent children to Ottawa. The spouse qualifies for an open work permit for the study permit duration. Children can attend Ottawa public schools free of charge. Financial proof requires an additional CAD 4,000 for the first family member. Each subsequent dependent adds CAD 3,000. These sit on top of the CAD 22,895 IRCC benchmark for the primary applicant.

Ques. How does Sprott handle conditional offers for Indian applicants awaiting final results?

Ans. Sprott routinely issues conditional offers for pending Indian transcripts or English test results. The offer specifies a deadline (usually 1 August for a September start) by which the missing document must reach Sprott. Applicants can request a deferral to the next intake if the study permit is delayed. The conditional offer converts to unconditional once WES verification completes.
