Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- I choose the University of Canberra as it is a regional area, and it would help the chances of my PR post studies as studying in regional areas and residing there gives extra points and hence better scope for PR. I liked the course curriculum, which aligned with my interests, and also, Canberra is a very peaceful and relaxed city to live in.
- The University is also well-equipped with all infrastructure and sports facilities, including badminton, basketball and football. The university is also well-connected to major parts of the city.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- I have chosen the University of Canberra over other options because of the regional benefits. Canberra is a more peaceful place and the course at this university also fell on the list of preferred courses for PR.

Admission Experience
- Australia is a peaceful country with not-so-harsh weather and good PR prospects.
- Ranked as one of the top colleges in Australia.
- Located in Bruce, Canberra, very close to Sydney and Melbourne. Just a 10 mins drive from the city centre and beautiful lakes around.
- I love the education here, assignments are very practical and weekly hence, there is no piling up of syllabus and no exams at the end of the year.
Class Schedule
- Four classes must be attended per week, other lectures are not mandatory but depend from professor to professor. Class timings vary from 8 am-8:30 pm depending on what slots you pick and days, you can select your slots 2 days a week and work the rest of the days. 30 members, out of which 4 to 5 Indians in every class. Self-study 2-3 hrs per day.
Faculty
- Faculty can be easily approached during class hours, and also every professor has one consultation slot every week, which we can book prior to the meeting. I had one faculty called Ravi Varman Selvakumaran, who is an ex-airforce fighter jet pilot for the Malaysian Airforce, whose approach to teaching was excellent and very interactive. Not really.
Campus Life
- The University of Canberra has two campuses, 1 in Canberra and 1 in Sydney.
- Has a 4-floor library, Indoor Badminton and both indoor and outdoor Basketball courts, 1 Gym, 4-5 fields for soccer and other sports.
- Campus has many clubs like the Indian Association, UCX and other sports clubs. Some NGO organisations also conduct frequent meetups, and Unilodge also conducts competitions, yoga sessions, get-together sessions and other fun activities.
Part Time Jobs
- Most Indians work in fast food chains like McDonald's or Hungry Jacks. Many other Indians also work in fuel stations. The average pay is 25 for part-time and 31 for casual. Getting these roles is easy if someone refers from the workplace or else it would take a while. We can apply through Seek/Indeed or through company portals.
- The maximum working hours allowed per fortnight is 48 hours. There are many on-campus jobs, but it is very difficult to crack them. You get various jobs like Student representative, UCX member for the pantry, event management, e-sports lounge associate and residential advisor. The hourly wage starts from 30-45 dollars on average.
Placement
- 70-80% of people get full-time jobs within 6 months. The average salary would be 70k and goes up to 100k for starters, and it increases with time. Students can get jobs by applying for internships and get converted to full-time or by applying through company portals. In regional areas, it is difficult to find jobs. In Canberra, it is very difficult as all are government offices, and without PR, it is difficult to find a job.
