SAE University College admissions open on rolling international review across three annual trimesters. UG applicants need a Class XII pass and IELTS 6.0. PG applicants need a Bachelor’s in any discipline plus IELTS 6.5.

  • Next intake: Trimester 1 (February 2027), SAE’s primary intake, on rolling review.
  • Base tuition: AUD 27,960 yearly (around ₹19.03 Lakhs), no application fee published.
  • UG entry: Class XII pass with IELTS 6.0. PG entry: any Bachelor’s with IELTS 6.5.
  • Acceptance rate: not published, SAE runs an access-oriented admissions model.

Bachelor of Audio, Bachelor of Games Development, Bachelor of Animation, Bachelor of Film, and the Master of Information Technology are the courses Indian applicants ask about most often at SAE University College, and past student reviews consistently flag the industry-linked studios and small cohort sizes as the biggest positives.

Admission Status: Open. The primary intake, Trimester 1 (February) 2027, is accepting international applications on rolling review through SAE’s direct International portal. Trimester 2 (May 2027) and Trimester 3 (September 2027) are also open. SAE University College publishes no application fee on its official pages.

SAE University College Application Deadlines for Indian Students

SAE University College operates on a three-trimester calendar with intakes in February, May, and September, per the SAE international enrolment page. Indian students apply direct to SAE on rolling review. The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) and Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) handle only Australian Year 12, International Baccalaureate, or New Zealand NCEA Level 3 international applicants, so the direct route is standard for CBSE, ICSE, and state-board school leavers, and for Bachelor’s holders applying to Master’s programs. Dates below are drawn from the SAE international enrolment page.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use AUD 1 = ₹68.08, the live rate on 9 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

SAE University College’s primary intake for Indian students is Trimester 1 (February), most Bachelor and Master programs open here.

Planning note: The 10 to 12 week lead is a practical rule, not a hard SAE cut-off. SAE issues offers and Confirmations of Enrolment (CoE) quickly, but the Subclass 500 visa and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) add several weeks. A completed application by mid-November 2026 gives Indian applicants a comfortable run at the February 2027 primary intake.

SAE University College Eligibility for Indian Students

SAE uses program-agnostic academic thresholds for international applicants and a course-set English band. So an Indian applicant checks against two floors, the academic pass and the language score. Sub-scores matter as much as the overall band, and any single band below the minimum triggers a conditional offer.

  • UG general entry: Class XII pass from CBSE, ICSE, or a state board (deemed equivalent to the Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education).
  • PG general entry: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised Indian university, equivalent to an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor.
  • Experience Based Entry: Applicants without Class XII or a Bachelor’s can apply with a portfolio evidencing at least three years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum age: International applicants must be at least 18 years old on arrival in Australia.

English tests must be completed within the last two years, and SAE does not recognise the online IELTS Academic variant.

SAE does not publish a blanket IELTS waiver for Indian applicants who studied in English-medium school. Medium of Instruction letters alone are not accepted. However, completion of an SAE-approved academic English pathway program (delivered by Navitas English) is a recognised alternative, and applicants who completed Year 12 English in an Australian secondary school or an approved equivalent qualification may also apply for exemption.

SAE University College PG Programs and Fees

SAE offers two Master’s programs for international applicants, the on-campus Master of Information Technology and the online Master of Creative Industries. Both accept a Bachelor’s in any related discipline as the entry base. Base tuition for the Master of Information Technology sits at an indicative AUD 24,000 per year (around ₹16.34 Lakhs), computed at 1.0 Equivalent Full Time Study Load (EFTSL). For unit-by-unit costs and the trimester schedule, see the detailed course-wise fees breakdown.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official SAE University College page for your chosen program before applying.

SAE University College Application Process

Indian applicants use SAE’s direct International portal. The same online form works for Bachelor and Master applications across every SAE campus. The pipeline runs from online submission to Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) to Subclass 500 visa lodgement.

  1. Complete and submit the online international enrolment form on the SAE International Direct portal. SAE publishes no separate application fee, so the portal accepts submissions without a processing charge.
  2. Wait for the Letter of Offer from SAE International Admissions after academic and English review.
  3. Sign the Student Admissions Agreement and pay the tuition deposit stated on your Letter of Offer.
  4. Arrange Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) with an Australian provider for the full CoE period.
  5. Receive your CoE once the tuition deposit clears via SAE’s Flywire portal.
  6. Apply for the Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) with the CoE, financial evidence, and Genuine Student statement.
  7. Plan arrival, book accommodation, and complete SAE orientation in the week before your trimester start.

Insider note: The Letter of Offer typically arrives within one to two weeks of a complete application. Incomplete transcripts or missing English scores add days, so front-load every document at submission rather than after the first admissions email.

SAE University College Admission Decisions Timeline

Once the Letter of Offer lands, the decision clock shifts to the applicant. SAE issues offers on rolling review, so the response window is set by each offer letter itself rather than a fixed institutional cycle.

  • Offer letter arrival: Typically within 1 to 2 weeks of a complete application.
  • Offer acceptance deadline: Stated on the Letter of Offer, usually a 4-week window to lock in the tuition deposit and OSHC.
  • CoE issuance: Same day or next business day once the tuition deposit clears in SAE’s Flywire account.
  • Conditional offers: Common where English or academic documents are pending. The CoE only issues after every condition is met in writing.
  • Deferral: Offers can typically be deferred to the next trimester within the same year on written request to SAE International Admissions.

SAE University College Documents Required for Indian Students

SAE keeps the paperwork list short but strict. Every document is upload-ready at application, and any conditional gap becomes a CoE hold later. Prepare scanned colour copies of every item below before opening the portal, so the entire application is submitted in one clean pass.

  • Passport: Colour scan of the bio page, valid for the full course duration plus six months.
  • Academic documents: Class X and XII marksheets and passing certificates for UG. Bachelor’s degree certificate and consolidated marksheet or transcript for PG.
  • English test score report: IELTS, PTE, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge CAE, or CLB score card, issued within the last two years.
  • Financial Declaration Form: SAE’s own form evidencing funds for tuition, living costs, and travel.
  • Passport-size photograph: Recent digital photo meeting Australian visa specifications.
  • Statement of Purpose or CV: Recommended for PG and Experience Based Entry applicants, brief and career-focused.
  • Portfolio: Required for Experience Based Entry into Bachelor programs. A work sample for creative streams strengthens standard applications too.

SAE University College Acceptance Rate

SAE University College does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate for international applicants. It operates as an access-oriented specialist institution, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English requirements rather than filtering competitively against a fixed cap.

SAE University College Selectivity for Indian Applicants

QTAC data on SAE’s Semester 1 2026 profile shows international students accounted for around 4.53 percent of enrolled students (31 out of 684). That small share reflects SAE’s specialist creative-media focus, not a tight admissions cap. Practically, an Indian applicant who clears the IELTS 6.0 (UG) or 6.5 (PG) floor and holds a clean Class XII or Bachelor’s transcript can expect an offer.

SAE University College Experience Based Entry Selectivity

Experience Based Entry applications are read more critically because the portfolio replaces the academic transcript. Similarly, applicants without a media-related Bachelor’s applying to the Master of Creative Industries need to add a portfolio and documented industry work to clear the entry criteria. Read student experience reviews from past intakes to gauge how the assessment felt for Indian cohorts.

Australia Student Visa Process for SAE University College Applicants

Indian students admitted to SAE apply for the Australian Student Visa, Subclass 500, through the Department of Home Affairs online portal. The visa runs for the length of the CoE plus a short buffer and requires a Genuine Student (GS) statement, financial evidence, OSHC cover, and biometrics at a VFS centre in India.

Financial proof must cover 12 months of tuition plus the current Department of Home Affairs living-cost threshold, plus travel and any dependent costs. OSHC is mandatory for the full CoE period and is purchased with an Australian provider before visa lodgement. Once the visa grants, register with the Overseas Student Ombudsman on arrival, and complete SAE’s orientation the week before your trimester start.

Planning note: Australia’s Subclass 500 visa fee was revised in 2025 and the Genuine Student statement replaced the earlier Genuine Temporary Entrant test. Both changes have added lead time. Confirm the current fee, financial threshold, and evidence list on the Department of Home Affairs website before lodging.

Tips and Application Checklist for SAE University College

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at SAE University College and Australia’s Subclass 500 processing rhythm. Combine both lists into your personal timeline before you open the direct portal.

  • Target February first: Trimester 1 has the widest program coverage and syncs with all five Australian campuses.
  • Book IELTS 4 to 6 months ahead: Retakes need at least 6 weeks turnaround, and SAE will not accept online IELTS Academic.
  • Lodge the direct portal application 10 to 12 weeks before intake: The offer, deposit, CoE, OSHC, and Subclass 500 visa each add days.
  • Order Indian university transcripts early: Consolidated attested marksheets can take 2 to 4 weeks. Start once the Bachelor’s result publishes.
  • Pay the tuition deposit within 4 weeks of the offer: This locks the CoE and prevents forced deferral to the next trimester.
  • Buy OSHC before visa lodgement: The Department of Home Affairs portal asks for the OSHC policy number at Subclass 500 upload.
  • Prepare the Genuine Student statement carefully: A weak GS answer is the most common reason for Indian visa refusals into specialist small-cohort institutions.
  • Verify campus availability for your specific course: The Master of Information Technology and some Bachelor streams do not run at every SAE campus in every trimester.
  • Keep AUD 20 Lakhs plus liquid for financial proof: Cover 12 months of tuition, living costs, and travel with dated bank statements ready.

SAE University College’s admissions rhythm rewards early movers. A completed direct application by mid-November 2026 gives Indian applicants a clean run at the February 2027 primary intake, with room for CoE, OSHC, and Subclass 500 processing. For applicants outside the standard academic pathway, Experience Based Entry with a strong portfolio is a genuine second door into most Bachelor and Master programs.

SAE University College Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. When can Indian students apply to SAE University College for 2027?

Ans. Applications are open now on rolling review through SAE’s direct International portal for Trimester 1 (February 2027), Trimester 2 (May 2027), and Trimester 3 (September 2027). Lodge at least 10 weeks before your target intake to leave room for the offer, CoE, OSHC, and Subclass 500 visa.

Ques. Does SAE University College charge an application fee for Indian students?

Ans. No. SAE’s official pages do not list an application fee for direct international applications, so the portal accepts submissions without a processing charge. QTAC or UAC routes may carry a separate platform fee, but Indian applicants typically use the direct route.

Ques. What is the minimum IELTS score for SAE Bachelor courses?

Ans. IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no individual band under 5.5. The test must be taken in the last two years, and SAE does not accept the online IELTS Academic variant.

Ques. What is the IELTS minimum for SAE Master’s programs?

Ans. IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no individual band under 6.0. PTE, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge CAE, and Canadian Language Benchmark scores are accepted as equivalents at levels published on the individual program pages.

Ques. Does SAE accept a Medium of Instruction letter from an English-medium Indian school?

Ans. MOI letters alone are not accepted. SAE recognises Year 12 English from an Australian secondary school, an approved equivalent qualification, or completion of an SAE-approved academic English pathway program delivered by Navitas English as alternatives to a formal test score.

Ques. Which SAE campus takes Indian international students?

Ans. Every Australian campus takes international students. Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide cover most Bachelor programs, but the Master of Information Technology runs at Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide only, not at Brisbane in current listings.

Ques. How long does the SAE Letter of Offer take?

Ans. Typically 1 to 2 weeks from a complete application. Incomplete transcripts or missing English scores add several days, so upload every document at submission and reply promptly if admissions asks for a clarification.

Ques. What documents does SAE University College need from Indian applicants?

Ans. Passport bio page, Class X and XII marksheets (or Bachelor’s certificate and consolidated marksheet for PG), a valid English test score, SAE’s Financial Declaration Form, and a passport-size digital photo. Experience Based Entry applicants add a portfolio evidencing at least three years of relevant work.

Ques. Can I defer my SAE offer to a later trimester?

Ans. Yes. Offers can typically be deferred to the next trimester within the same year on written request to SAE International Admissions. Send the deferral request before the offer acceptance deadline stated on your Letter of Offer.

Ques. What is the minimum age to study at SAE University College?

Ans. 18 years on arrival in Australia. International applicants under 18 face additional guardianship and welfare arrangements administered by SAE, so most Indian applicants apply after completing Class XII.

Ques. Do I need a portfolio for creative Bachelor programs at SAE?

Ans. Standard entry does not require a portfolio for Bachelor programs. A Class XII pass with the right IELTS is enough. Experience Based Entry applicants without Class XII need a portfolio evidencing three or more years of relevant industry experience.

Ques. What visa do I need to study at SAE University College?

Ans. The Australian Student Visa, Subclass 500, applied through the Department of Home Affairs after receiving the CoE. Genuine Student statement, OSHC, and financial evidence are all required at lodgement, so keep the funding letter and OSHC policy ready alongside the CoE.

Overview

I found out about SAE from my cousin who completed a diploma there and I wasn't studying at the time and he took me for a tour of the campus and it really looked like a cool place to study. The courses are really hands-on and the main thing I hated in highschool was that everything was out of the books or a teacher telling you what to do and how to do it.

Overview

I opted for SAE as it had an amazing reputation when asking other people who have graduated. In this institute, students are being taught by industry professionals who are actual filmmakers who work in the industry.
