All programs are English-medium and use trimester intakes in February, May and September. SAE Institute Admission 2027
SAE Institute uses a trimester calendar with three annual intakes, and Indian applicants target the February 2027 trimester as the primary entry point. The application is direct online with portfolio review, so no third-party TAC lodgement is needed for international students.

|---|---|---|
| February 2027 trimester application close | Expected 15 January 2027 (based on prior cycle) | Submit portfolio, transcripts and IELTS together |
| February 2027 trimester start | Expected mid-February 2027 | Orientation week precedes the first academic week |
| May 2027 trimester application close | Expected 15 April 2027 (based on prior cycle) | Second entry window for Indian applicants |

SAE Institute Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
SAE weighs a creative portfolio alongside academics, and Indian applicants who fall short on grades can still qualify through Experience-Based Entry with work samples and an interview.
Undergraduate requirements:
- Completion of Class 12 from CBSE, ICSE or a State Board, equivalent to the Australian Senior Secondary Certificate
- Portfolio, showreel or audio samples relevant to the chosen program
- English test minimum: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, or PTE-A 46 with sub-scores from 42 to 51, or TOEFL iBT 51 to 66 with component minimums, or Cambridge CAE 162
- Age 18+ on arrival in Australia
Postgraduate requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university (55% or CGPA 5.5/10 recommended), or documented industry portfolio for Experience-Based Entry
- English test minimum for Master of IT: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or an approved Academic English program
- Master of IT also accepts three years of relevant industry experience with a strong portfolio in place of an undergraduate degree
Key insight: SAE does not require SAT or GRE. Portfolio quality is the strongest lever for an Indian applicant, and a 200 to 300-word creative statement is compulsory for Experience-Based Entry.
SAE Institute Acceptance Rate 2027
SAE Institute does not publish a formal acceptance rate; admissions are portfolio-based with structured pathways, so most academically eligible Indian applicants with a strong showreel receive an offer. Independent Indian counselling data places the effective offer rate for international applicants in the range of 65% to 75% (estimated).
Applicants who miss academic thresholds are routed to Experience-Based Entry rather than being rejected outright, which lifts overall admission chances. English-language shortfalls are handled through pre-sessional pathways at Navitas English partners.
Reality check: A strong portfolio can offset an average Class 12 score of 55% to 60%, but a weak portfolio rarely clears entry even with 85%+ academics.

SAE Institute Rankings 2027
SAE Institute is a specialist creative media higher-education provider and is not ranked in the QS World, Times Higher Education World or US News Best Global editions, as those tables measure comprehensive research universities. SAE’s recognition instead runs through TEQSA accreditation and industry alignment.
| Ranking Body | Latest Edition | Status |
|---|---|---|
| QS World University Rankings | 2027 | Not ranked (specialist creative media college) |
| Times Higher Education World | 2026 | Not ranked |
| US News Best Global Universities | 2025-2026 | Not ranked |
| TEQSA Registration | Current | Registered Institute of Higher Education |
[Source: QS, THE, US News, TEQSA National Register]
As per SAE’s TEQSA listing, the college holds self-accrediting authority for AQF Level 7 bachelor degrees, a status also held by universities. Industry publication The Rolling Stone and Mix Magazine have historically ranked SAE among the top audio-engineering schools worldwide, though these are trade recognitions, not university rankings.
Key insight: Australian employer recognition for SAE graduates comes from studio placements and alumni-led hiring at labels and game studios, not university league tables. Indian visa officers accept SAE’s AQF Level 7 status the same way they accept any Australian bachelor.

SAE Institute Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
SAE Institute does not publish a formal placement rate, but the college’s own graduate outcomes data shows most bachelor graduates enter the creative industries within 12 months of completion, largely through internships that convert to work.
- Median entry salary: A$55,000 to A$65,000 (₹37.4 to ₹44.2 Lakh) for creative-industry roles in Australia, per JobOutlook Australia 2026 medians
- Career support: SAE Career Hub runs portfolio reviews, employer meet-and-greet events and paid internship listings across all six campuses
- Representative employers: Sectors include music labels, post-production houses, mobile game studios, animation studios, broadcast media and independent film houses
- Post-study work rights: Bachelor and master graduates qualify for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) with 2 years of full work rights, extendable in regional areas
- Alumni notes: SAE alumni have contributed to Queensland Music Awards nominations and Format Portfolio Award winners in recent years
Insider note: Indian graduates most commonly land audio-engineering roles at Queensland music studios and junior game-development roles at Brisbane indie studios, both accessible on a 485 visa with no employer sponsorship needed for the first two years.
SAE Institute vs Peer Creative Media Colleges
SAE Institute competes with a small set of specialist creative-media providers and a broader group of Group of Eight-adjacent universities offering creative bachelor degrees; Group of Eight refers to Australia’s eight most research-intensive universities.
| Institution | QS World 2027 | Avg Bachelor Fee (AUD, ₹ Lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| SAE Institute | Not ranked | A$83,880 (₹57.0 Lakh) total | Fastest 2-year fast-track bachelor; portfolio-first entry |
| JMC Academy | Not ranked | A$83,850 (₹57.0 Lakh) total (estimated) | Peer creative college; strong Sydney film network |
| AIE (Academy of Interactive Entertainment) | Not ranked | A$66,000 (₹44.9 Lakh) total (estimated) | Games-specialist; industry mentors on campus |
| RMIT University | #123 | A$41,000/year (₹27.9 Lakh) (estimated) | Research university with animation and games majors |
| Griffith University | #232 | A$36,000/year (₹24.5 Lakh) (estimated) | Queensland College of Art peer in Brisbane |
[Source: QS Rankings 2027, university international fee pages]
SAE stands out for the fastest bachelor completion in Australian creative media at 2 years, a fixed total fee that removes annual escalation risk and portfolio-first entry that suits Indian applicants without top-percentile Class 12 marks.
SAE Institute suits Indian students who want an accelerated, industry-linked bachelor in Animation, Audio, Film, Games or Music at a total tuition of ₹57.0 Lakh against a projected starting salary of ₹40 Lakh in Brisbane. The 485 post-study work visa turns two study years into four earning years, which anchors the return on investment more clearly than a longer three-year path elsewhere.
SAE Institute is not the right fit for students seeking a research-heavy bachelor in general engineering, law or medicine, or those chasing QS-ranked employer prestige. In that case a Group of Eight route such as the University of Queensland delivers the recognised brand.
SAE Institute FAQs
Ques. What programs beyond bachelor degrees does SAE Institute offer Indian students?
Ans. SAE Institute offers Associate Degrees, Undergraduate Diplomas, Postgraduate Certificates and Postgraduate Diplomas alongside its nine bachelor degrees and two master programs. Indian applicants can also enter through Experience-Based Entry with a portfolio, without a Class 12 completion certificate. Master of Creative Industries is delivered in a blended online-and-campus format, which suits working professionals from India who need scheduling flexibility.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at SAE?
Ans. Yes. Australian Subclass 500 student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during trimesters and unlimited hours during scheduled trimester breaks. SAE’s trimester calendar creates three break windows per year rather than one long summer, which spreads earning opportunities and helps Indian students offset Brisbane living costs.
Ques. How does SAE handle the IELTS waiver for Indian applicants?
Ans. SAE waives IELTS for Indian applicants who completed Class 12 in an English-medium school with certified English as the medium of instruction, subject to campus discretion. Applicants can also submit PTE-A 46 or TOEFL iBT 51 to 66 as alternatives. Pre-sessional English pathways through Navitas English cover any shortfall without delaying the trimester start by more than one cycle.
Ques. Is a portfolio interview mandatory for every SAE program?
Ans. An interview is mandatory only for Experience-Based Entry applicants and for scholarship candidates such as the Creative Media & Technology Scholarship. Standard applicants with Class 12 grades meeting the recommended threshold and a submitted portfolio typically receive an offer without an interview. Interviews run over video call for Indian applicants and take about 25 minutes.
Ques. Does SAE Institute charge an application fee for Indian applicants?
Ans. SAE does not charge a separate international application fee; applicants only pay a non-refundable tuition deposit after accepting the offer. The deposit is applied against first-trimester fees. Payment runs through Flywire, which supports Indian bank transfers and card payments in INR at the day’s exchange rate.
Ques. Which Indian education loan lenders recognise SAE for financing?
Ans. Major Indian lenders including HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo and Prodigy Finance recognise SAE University College as a TEQSA-accredited higher-education provider and finance Indian bachelor and master applicants. Loan-to-value ratios reach 85% of total cost of attendance for collateral-backed loans. State Bank of India requires case-by-case approval as SAE sits outside its default prime-institution list.
Ques. What dependent visa options apply to Indian SAE students?
Ans. Master of Information Technology students at SAE can bring a spouse and dependent children on the Subclass 500 dependent stream, with the spouse eligible for full work rights during the study period. Bachelor applicants generally cannot bring dependants unless studying at AQF Level 9 or above. Financial-capacity proof of A$24,505 for a partner and A$8,751 per child is required at visa lodgement.
Ques. How does SAE issue conditional offers to Indian applicants?
Ans. SAE issues conditional offers when Class 12 results, IELTS scores or credential verification are pending. The condition is cleared by submitting the missing document before the trimester census date. Once cleared, SAE releases the Confirmation of Enrolment letter, which is the trigger document for the Subclass 500 student visa application at VFS India centres.

Overview
I found out about SAE from my cousin who completed a diploma there and I wasn't studying at the time and he took me for a tour of the campus and it really looked like a cool place to study. The courses are really hands-on and the main thing I hated in highschool was that everything was out of the books or a teacher telling you what to do and how to do it.
Fees
My course was placed under student fee-help so I only pay after I start earning over X amount of money in the future. This is a great program for students as it has allowed me to do something I am very into and not have to pay upfront. If they didn't offer this payment method I would not be at the college.
Overview
I opted for SAE as it had an amazing reputation when asking other people who have graduated. In this institute, students are being taught by industry professionals who are actual filmmakers who work in the industry.
Fees
I myself being an international student had to pay fees upfront and have to pay in advance for every trimester
