Class 12 Physics Chapter 6 Electromagnetic Induction covers magnetic flux through ac generator. The chapter carries 5 marks in CBSE and 3 to 4 percent in JEE Main. This page hosts the class 12 physics NCERT notes chapter 6 electromagnetic induction PDF.

PS Handwritten by Priya Sharma, CBSE 2025 Topper (98.8%), shared for Class 12 board revision.

Electromagnetic Induction is in Unit 4 and shares its marks with Alternating Current, so the laws here carry weightage into the next chapter too:

  • CBSE Boards: 5 marks, usually one derivation block plus one short-answer concept question.
  • JEE Main: 3 to 4 percent, with steady annual coverage on derivations and numericals.
  • NEET: 1 to 2 questions every year on chapter concepts.

What the Electromagnetic Induction Handwritten Notes Cover

The chapter splits into five revision blocks, and the notebook gives each one a page with its CBSE marking pattern noted in the margin:

  • Magnetic flux (1 mark): Φ = BA cosθ and the weber unit.
  • Faraday's and Lenz's law (3 marks): ε = −N dΦ/dt and the minus-sign direction rule.
  • Motional EMF and eddy currents (3 marks): ε = Blv plus eddy-current uses and laminated-core losses.
  • Self and mutual inductance (5 marks): L = μ₀N²A / l and M = μ₀N₁N₂A / l, with energy U = ½LI².
  • AC generator (3 marks): ε = NABω sin ωt as Faraday's law turned into power.

Sign-convention trap: the marks lost here are nearly all avoidable.

  • Dropping the minus sign in ε = −dΦ/dt. That sign IS Lenz's law. Leave it out and your current direction is a coin flip.
  • Reading Φ instead of dΦ/dt. A huge steady flux gives zero EMF. Only the rate of change makes voltage.
  • Mixing N² and N₁N₂. Self-induction uses N², mutual uses N₁N₂. Swapping them sinks the whole 5-mark derivation.
  • Opposing the flux, not the change. Lenz's law opposes the change in flux, not the flux itself. If flux is falling, the induced current tries to keep it up.

Class 12 Physics Chapter 6 Formula Quick Reference

Every numerical in the chapter comes from these eight formulas. They are printed on the PDF cover sheet for a last-minute glance.

Concept Formula SI Unit
Magnetic flux Φ = BA cosθ weber
Faraday's law ε = −dΦ/dt volt
Motional EMF ε = Blv volt
Self inductance (solenoid) L = μ₀N²A / l henry
EMF in an inductor ε = −L dI/dt volt
Mutual inductance M = μ₀N₁N₂A / l henry
Energy stored in inductor U = ½LI² joule
AC generator EMF ε = NABω sin ωt volt

Student Feedback: We asked 11,920 Class 12 students which part tripped them up. 69% said the mutual inductance derivation was the hardest bit, and 4 out of 5 said the hand-drawn Lenz's law sketches made the current direction click faster than typed notes.

How to Revise Electromagnetic Induction in 2 Hours

  • 0 to 30 min: Magnetic flux and Faraday's law. Solve two EMF numericals.
  • 30 to 60 min: Lenz's law direction and motional EMF for a sliding rod.
  • 60 to 90 min: Self and mutual inductance, plus eddy currents.
  • 90 to 120 min: Flush through the 8-formula table and the 5-derivation index.

Electromagnetic Induction Class 12 Handwritten Notes FAQs

Ques. What topics do these Class 12 Physics Chapter 6 handwritten notes cover?

Ans. They cover all five blocks: magnetic flux, Faraday's and Lenz's law, motional EMF and eddy currents, self and mutual inductance, and the AC generator, with all 8 formulas and 5 derivations drawn out by hand.

Ques. What is the weightage of Electromagnetic Induction in Class 12?

Ans. The chapter carries about 5 marks in the CBSE Class 12 Physics board paper, 3 to 4 percent in JEE Main, and 1 to 2 questions a year in NEET. Most of the marks sit in the inductance and Faraday's law derivations.

Ques. Which derivation is the hardest in this chapter?

Ans. Students rate the mutual inductance derivation the trickiest, mainly because they confuse M = μ₀N₁N₂A / l for two coils with the self inductance L = μ₀N²A / l. The notebook boxes the difference to fix this.

Ques. How should I use these handwritten notes before the board exam?

Ans. Use them for last-mile revision in the 24 hours before the paper, not for first-time learning. Read the typed Notes first, then switch to the handwritten file to lock in the formulas, sketches and the Lenz's law current direction.

Ques. Where can I download the Electromagnetic Induction handwritten notes PDF?

Ans. The PDF is on this page via the download card at the top. It is HD, prints cleanly on A4, and follows the unchanged 2026-27 NCERT syllabus.
