The Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) Bangalore is proud to announce the launch of Ritam, a multi-tiered initiative designed to redefine fashion education through the lens of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) and sustainable entrepreneurship.

Comprising The Ritam Foundation (a Section 8 non-profit incubator) and Ritam House of Couture (an e-commerce brand), this initiative marks a departure from traditional "classroom only" education, offering students a direct pathway from academic theory to market-ready production.
The Three Pillars of Ritam
1. Education Rooted in IKS (The ‘Ritam’ Philosophy)
Guided by the principles of Ṛta (Cosmic Order), Dharma (Ethical Duty), and Pañcabhūta (The Five Elements), Ritam integrates IKS into the modern fashion curriculum. This approach moves
beyond aesthetics, teaching students the philosophical depth of Indian textile heritage, zero waste pattern cutting, slow fashion and ethical production.
2. The Ritam Foundation: A Sustainable Incubator
As a registered Section 8 company, The Ritam Foundation serves as a professional bridge between academic learning and industry entry. It functions as a dedicated incubator, providing students and alumni with the infrastructure, high-end production facilities, and technical mentorship required to transform creative concepts into market-ready collections. By offering a structured legal and operational framework, the Foundation empowers young designers to master the nuances of brand management, ethical production, and fashion entrepreneurship within a supportive, college-led ecosystem.
3. Ritam House of Couture: The Market Interface
Ritam House of Couture is the initiative’s commercial storefront. It offers a unique "Earn While You Learn" model where student-designed and stitched apparel is curated and sold to a global audience. This platform provides real-world experience in branding, creative direction, and production management.
A Legacy of Excellence
Ritam is led by the leadership at IIFT Bangalore, an institution with a 25-year legacy of producing over 10,000 designers. This new venture honors the academic and economic vision of the late Sri B. Vedhagiri, seeking to empower students not just as employees, but as entrepreneurs with a deep sense of cultural identity.
"With Ritam, we are not just teaching fashion; we are fostering a movement where the next generation of designers sees India’s ancient heritage as their greatest competitive advantage in a global market hungry for authenticity and sustainability."
