Dr. A. Madeswaran has been working as the Professor and Head of Pharmacology Department at Karpagam College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

He has done B. Pharmacy in 2008 from J.K.K. Nataraja College of Pharmacy and M. Pharmacy and PhD from College of Pharmacy, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences of Coimbatore in 2011 and 2018 respectively as part of educational qualification. He has also qualified for the GATE entrance exam and holds a total professional experience of 12 years. In his professional experience, he had published 56 Research Papers in international journals and 4 Research Papers in national journals and written 7 books in International publishing Company. He has in credit of 578 citations and h-index value of 14. He has participated in many seminars, webinars, guest lectures, conferences and workshops and has guided 3 Postgraduate projects. He also successfully organized two national level seminars as an organizing secretary. 

He has received numerous awards and accolades for his amazing research and academic world including Best Oral Presenter Award for the research paper entitled “Unwinding the complexities of Diabetic Alzheimer’s disease by certain commercially available terpenoids-An in silico, in vitro and in vivo study”, Best Paper presenter for the Poster presentation entitled “In silico evaluation of α-amylase inhibitory activity of some commercially available flavonoids”, Presented at JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty followed by Second prize for oral presentation entitled “In silico and in vitro xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity of commercially available flavonoids" etc. He has served as a working member for the conventions of Indian Association of Colleges of Pharmacy conducted during 2014, 2016 and 2017 and staff coordinator for the Scientific Services Committee - Indian Pharmaceutical Congress for three consecutive years from 2013-2015.

He is a proud Life Member of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India and a Reviewer for Medicinal Chemistry Research, Journal of Food Biochemistry, Informatics in Medicine Unlocked, Phytotherapy Research, Letters in Drug Design and Discovery, Natural Products Research, BMC Structural Biology, Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine, Journal of Computational Science and Journal of Computational Methods in Molecular Design. 

Last but not the least, he was posted as Company Sergeant Major in N.C.C. in 1998. He was a NSS Member in his school days and also a 1st Rank holder in B. Pharmacy in 2007 and 2008. He has participated in many elocutions and secured many awards in both school and college days.

He started his teaching journey in 2011 as an Assistant Professor with College of Pharmacy of Sri Ramakrishna Paramedical Sciences - Coimbatore where he worked for 10 years and later on he joined Karpagam College of Pharmacy in 2022 as a Professor and later got promoted to Head of Department.

How does the Department of Pharmacology contribute to the growth of your institution?

Since its establishment, the Pharmacy Department of our Karpagam College has emphasized mostly on increasing its academic and research activities and hence the institute has recruited very knowledgeable and experienced faculty members to teach students using innovative ideas. And keeping our commitment of providing best quality knowledge and practical exposure to students in mind, we had recently carried out In-silico, in-vitro, and in-vivo investigations to screen new chemical entities and natural products for a variety of disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, diabetes mellitus, and cancer. Apart from this, we have hi-tech labs where a variety of neurobehavioral assessment tools are available for assessing the potential impact of new substances in rats and mice. 


Which courses and amenities are being offered by your college at present to empower students so that they can outperform?

The Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology are the focus areas of all academic, entrepreneurial development, and research activities of our college and we do offer an extensive range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs including B. Pharm, M. Pharm, Pharm. D, and Ph.D. courses to young and aspiring students of our society. Our courses are affiliated to TamilNadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University of Chennai, and Pharmacy Council of India - New Delhi. Along with this, we have excellent facilities and cutting-edge labs on campus along with a group of committed academic members with advanced research interests. 

Other than this, our B. Pharm. program has been accredited by the New Delhi based National Board of Accreditation and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has designated the College as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization.

What are some valuable insights of the Pharmacology programs that students are pursuing from your institute at present?

The students who are pursuing Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses from our college are provided with the finest quality knowledge of fields like Pharmacology and Toxicology along with intense classroom and lab instructions.

And after successfully finishing the courses, doors of immense growth will open for them in the form of fascinating research, regulatory, and administrative professions in academic, healthcare and industrial sectors. Last but not the least, students also get to work on analyzing and testing medications.


What job opportunities would be available to students after finishing Pharmacy courses from your institute?

Students are taught the foundations of pharmacology as well as how to produce and formulate medications in the UG course, while in the PG program, they get to study science and principles underlying pharmaceutical drugs.

And due to the developing nature of Pharmacy and Pharmacology domains, a plethora of work opportunities are available in the outside world for competent professionals and individuals having a good understanding of Pharmacy and medicines. Hence since B. Pharm. is a fantastic professional and career-focused degree, so after finishing it, students can work as a Clinical Pharmacists, Toxicologist, Forensic Scientist, Medical Science Liaison or Drug Inspector in the Banking and Railway sector or can even join State or Central entities as a government official.

Apart from this, after finishing Master's in Pharmacology, they will have a wide range of options in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries along with domains including teaching, journalism and marketing. 


On what types of projects your Department students usually work on?

Our students usually work on various kinds of research projects related to the field of Neuropharmacology, Endocrine Pharmacology, Molecular Pharmacology and Chronopharmacology. Along with this, in silico, in vitro, and in vivo experiments are utilized to identify potential natural chemicals that could fight neurodegenerative illnesses and other diseases. 

Our Department has also published its research articles in reputed international journals with high impact factors and indexes.


What inspired you to join the education sector and become a Teacher?

It is a well-known fact that Teaching is one of the most significant and noble professions of all time because Teachers play a very crucial role in the development of young students and ultimately future generations.

Also, while working in the dynamic world of education, we get limitless opportunities to develop new skills and upgrade the existing ones; hence the ability to learn is not constrained in the profession of teaching. 

Last but not the least, satisfaction and happiness which comes after witnessing the growth of students on personal and professional levels is unmatchable. Hence all these factors are the prime reasons which inspired me to join the education sector as a Scholar and Teacher.
