George Mason University Language Programs

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at George Mason University offers a wide range of courses in the language, literature, and culture of the languages. Courses from the department can be used to fulfil the college language requirement, the college requirement in non-Western culture, or the university general education requirements in literature or global understanding.

The degree in Foreign Languages prepares students for teaching, graduate study in languages and cultures, research, professional work, as well as service in government, nonprofits, or business. Students with some prior knowledge of a language who wish to continue the study of that language should take a foreign language placement test. Tests are available in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Russian, and Spanish.
