What Students Say
Likes
- What I like most are the variety of courses offered to me, it gives me a lot of freedom to choose what I want to study. The campus is also quite pretty and a generally nice place to be.
Dislikes
- What I don't like though is that it's very rural so there isn't much around to do, which is annoying since I come from a city.
Course Curriculum
- Can't say much for the first two; I've only done intro classes, but as for how many classes you have in a day, 2-3 is typical. In intro classes, you have an average of 100 students per class, intermediate classes have like 60, and advanced ones have around 30.
Admission Experience
- The main reason for me to choose my university was that it was cheaper than most of my other options while also providing a good education in computer science.
- UMass was test-optional when I applied, but I sent a score of 1560. The only other scores I sent were my school grades, where I had a 42/45 in IB.
Faculty
- For the intro classes at least, we have around 50 - 100 students per class. The professors I've had are nice and approachable, and usually answer questions well.
Campus Life
- There's a ton of clubs on campus so I don't think you should get too bored. As for the research facilities, that depends on the department, but the college of computer science has a lot of programs to help students get into it. There's 2 libraries, a big regular one for general stuff and a smaller one for stem topics.
Part Time Jobs
- Not sure, I didn't do any part-time jobs in the first semester.
Placement
- No idea, you're better off checking the college website.
Accommodation
- I'm living on campus right now, and it's about 4400 per semester.
Exams
- No required exams, but Duolingo/TOEFL/IELTS is needed if your school's language of instruction wasn't English.
- Required documents are the Common App essay, a teacher recommendation, a counselor recommendation, a few supplemental essays, and your high school transcript.
Fees
- Roughly 60k USD per year, with around 40,000 being tuition and the other 20k being housing, food, insurance, etc. Out-of-state and international students can get an 18k scholarship, though if they have good grades, not sure what the threshold for the grades being considered good are, though.
