What Students Say
Likes
- University as a whole is pretty great.
- The campus is good as well.
- The CS core courses seemed to be a little off the track, but we had multiple good options from the electives.
Dislikes
- The Cybersecurity core courses could have been more cybersecurity focused but I think it is being improved.
Course Curriculum
- Some courses are updated and relevant, some seem to be a little behind.
- You can do internships for the exposure/experience
- Typically, 2-3 classes are scheduled, and timings are in the afternoon; however, for MIS people, classes can be in the evening.
- For core courses, the average number can be around 120 students, and for electives, the minimum can be anywhere between 10-120.
Admission Experience
- I would say the universities I got admission from were all great, but at the time I chose Syracuse University based on the course curriculum, the rank of the university, the location, and the scholarship provided.
- I don't know the current requirements; they can be found on the university's website. However, my scores: TOEFL 96/120, GRE Optional.
Faculty
- Every professor is well-versed and approachable and will assist with any need of yours. I feel like the faculty-to-student ratio would be around 10:120, like there are many specialized professors. I would name Kevin Du for the cybersecurity expertise.
Campus Life
- A lot of activities are there, clubs are present, and every weekend, there are events/ extracurricular activities.
Part Time Jobs
- Weekly, you can earn up to 350-400$. Students can apply through a university's job portal -- for my university, it was Handshake. 20 hours is the time cap per week.
- For my time, it was pretty hard to get on campus, but now it is so much easier. TA/RA is available based on your grades; there is a criterion for that. If you fit that criterion, you can be a TA/RA.
Placement
- It actually depends, but there are hiring cycles; in each cycle, some percentage of people get jobs, though I don't know the exact percentage.
- In my program, the average salary is anywhere from 100K and above.
- There are job portals similar to LinkedIn, such as Handshake, jobright.ai. Networking helps a lot. There are job fairs every semester on campus. However, competition is huge, so staying up to date remains the #1 priority.
Accommodation
- Rental cost can be approximately $500 per month. Yes, there are online platforms for accommodation in your area.
Exams
- Exams: GRE, TOEFL/IELTS
- Documents: SOP, Transcripts, Resume, LORs
Fees
- For my program, it was around $50000 for two years.
