What Students Say
Likes
- I love the University and all the buildings and infrastructure. Syracuse University is really inclusive and everyone is super nice.
Dislikes
- The thing I dislike the most is the cost of the tuition fee. It's nearly 1900$ per credit now.
Required Exams for Admission
I got a teaching assistantship, which provided a huge scholarship along with a monthly stipend. This was a major factor that influenced my decision, and along with this iSchool from Syracuse has an excellent program for Data Science. It is very flexible and has amazing professors.
Course Curriculum
My professors are extremely talented and they are updated with the latest technologies. They keep updating the syllabus as the world changes and they also created new courses which teach the current technologies. Overall, really love the courses here, especially for the Data Science course and most of the subjects would require a project to be done, so that increases our practical knowledge as well.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio for my course would be 50:1 roughly. They are extremely talented and up to date with latest technologies. They are usually very nice and approachable and explain the doubts. My favorite professor was Jeff. Saltz, he is the director of the school but still takes classes and creates new courses. He is amazing!
Campus Life
There are so many events and activities happening all the time. Students won't be able to attend all of them because they will be tired haha, There are super powerful computers and cloud resources which the students can utilize for performing their research and projects. The WIFI all across the campus is easy to connect and high speed. It also has access to Spectrum Watch so we can see live TV, movies and series available on that for FREE! We have amazing gym named Barnes Center for Fitness and it has everything we require. The health facilities and sports facilities are really good.
Placement
There is usually one career fair for every semester and nearly 200 companies visit. They provide some amazing networking opportunities but no job is guaranteed unless you are skilled. The value of a master's degree from Syracuse University is very high and students who graduate from Syracuse are well respected in the industry. I got an internship in the Summer, and the job opportunities are entirely dependent on the student's skills and hard work and efforts.
Accommodation
I live in a 5 bedroom apartment with my friends. We each have a separate room. There is no sharing here in Syracuse usually. We pay 560$ per head monthly.
Exams
- My scores: GRE:NA, IELTS: 8, SAT: NA - Telangana State Board- 9.3 (10th); Telangana State Board- 95% (12th) SRM University - 8.78 (UG) - Requirements: I had to submit an SOP which I had structured and written very well with extensive care. I think SOP is really important for the Universities to evaluate the students. I had to submit 3 LORs from my faculties. I was in good relations with my Professors from my UG and a couple of them were Doctorates, so their LORs were pretty valuable. I had to submit my Resume as well, I had a work experience of 2 years and I think that really helped as I was a Data Engineer. I gave one interview for my Teaching Assistantship, and it was just getting to know me and if I was interested in the subject I would be working with and if I was joining Syracuse for sure.
Fees
The credit cost when I joined was, $1870, there are 34 credits. 1870*34 = $63580. To complete the entire course. Syracuse usually provides Scholarships so that helps.
