Course Curriculum

10

  • The course syllabus is super updated and relevant to the on going trends. The syllabus is structured individually by every professor, so two professors teaching the same course can have different syllabus, but every professor tries to bring in their areas of expertise along with the relevant knowledge required for the course.
  • Yes, I was given an industry project experience, where I had to build a project for the project sponsor company. Again this depends from professor to professor. We were assigned companies by the professor and the project was a part of our final term grading. As I mentioned every professor follows their own approach, so not all professors give industrial exposure, and it also depends on the course that we have selected.
  • Classes depends on us, since we have the freedom to choose the timing of classes from the available timings. Eg. A class for Global Innovation can have two timings, 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM and even 2:00-4:30 PM, so we can choose the timing as per our convenience but if the class gets full before we finalize the class, we have to then opt for the remaining class.
  • So it is possible to have 1 or 2 or maybe even 3 classes in a single day, but no one prefers to take more than 2 classes on the same day. There are no usual timings for classes but any class can start from as early as 8:00 AM, the class duration being 2.5 hours, and the final class takes places from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, so from 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM, a class can take place at any time for the duration of 2.5 hours.
  • The average number of students also depends on the amount of students enroll for a particular course. It can range from 20 to even 100 students in a class depending on the course and students enrolling for that class. For me, I have 3 3 courses for this semester, for Data Visualization, we are a total of 18 students, for Organizational Behaviour course, we are 30 and for Economics and Strategy course we have 100. But 100 is the upper limit.

Admission Experience

  • I got a total of 5-6 admits in the US and among them, NYU stood out since it is in the heart of New York City and is a very reputed university in the US, among the top 50. My overall experience until now has been quite good, the professors are super helpful and have great expertise and industry knowledge, that actually showed me a perspective through their point of view. I was also been given a generous amount of scholarship for my course.
  • Though living in NYC and even the tuition fee here is on the higher side, getting to live in one of the biggest tech hubs in the world, network with people all across the world were some reasons to choose NYU. I did my undergrad in Computer Engineering, and I was the chairperson of a technical committee during that period, this made me realize that there is more to technology apart from coding. I was really fascinated to bridge the gap between management and technology so my focus was to excel in similar field, and hence I decided to opt the Management of Technology (MIS/MEM) course.
  • IELTS - Min score 7 (for New York University - Tandon School of Engineering)

Faculty

10

  • I am not sure of the exact numbers. But I can say that almost every faculty is approachable and is very kind and helpful. As for me, I can say Prof. Lee, Mark has been the best faculty,
  • I took his Organizational Behaviour core course for this fall semester and it has helped me a lot. Professor makes us understand concepts through interactive assignments, quizzes, in-class activities, reading materials, etc. Since it's only been a few month for me here I can take about the professors that have taught me, but almost every faculty is highly skilled and easy to approach.

Campus Life

10

  • The campus life is very lively. The infrastructure is top notch with the highest of facilities available for students. From startup accelerators, to research labs, everything is covered. There are tons of extracurricular activities that takes place. NYU has more than 300 clubs on campus and we have multiple events taking place every day where we get to network and even work on our skills. For NYU we have two campuses, one in Brooklyn and the main campus is in Manhattan, we have free bus facilities to travel from any one campus to other, and have access to every university building.
  • We have libraries in both the campuses, Manhattan being the main campus has a dedicated 12 floor library building for students that remains open 24x7 and can accommodate 2500+ students at a time. So students can go there at any time to study. There are a number of sport facilities also available for students. We have access to Gym, swimming pool, and other sports facilities.

Part Time Jobs

  • For grad students currently the hourly work pay rate is $30 per hour. Students have to apply through a portal named "Handshake" for all on campus jobs.
  • Students can work a maximum of 20 hours per week.
  • Here at NYU, it is very competitive to get an on campus job as forms are released and get filled very quickly. Every professor has at least one TA, but it can ranger from 1 to max 8 TAs per professor depending on the size of class they teach. As for RA and DA, I don't have the exact numbers for them.

Placement

  • Mostly everyone that graduates from NYU, secures a job but I don't have the exact numbers, so I cannot give you the numbers
  • I don't have the numbers even for the salary, so it would be wrong to put a number that is not accurate.
  • Usually students try to get hands on internship in the Summer period, and they try to convert that internship into full time by performing well. Some of them excel that this, some of them don't. Mostly everyone uses LinkedIn, Jobright to apply to jobs and network. Even attending tech events and networking with people works the best, since people working in the industry could potentially give a referral in their company if one has good networking skills, and this is one of the best ways to land an interview in companies.
  • We do have job fairs and we have this Wasserman center for career development for NYU students where they guide us regarding career. Unfortunately there is no campus recruitment system, like the one in India where companies come to a college to hire students. Companies do come for job fairs and even for hackathons. So winning a hackathon directly connects people to those companies.

Accommodation

Off Campus
6

  • So here at NYU, there is very limited on campus accommodation, and it is majorly for the undergrads. And only a few for the grad students that too fills up quickly since it is very limited. So mostly everyone prefers to lease an apartment in the city and 3-4 students live together depending on the size of the apartment. I found the accommodation in this NYU Community for Indian students on whatsapp. A lot of people post there regarding housing and other important stuff.
  • My monthly rent is $1000, and since it's not an on campus accommodation, I had to buy everything that I wanted, from Bed frame, to table, chair, wardrobe, etc. We also can buy it second from the same Whatsapp community since a lot of people also post there if they want to sell something, even Facebook Marketplace is a good place to buy second hand utilities.
  • Apart form that it usually depends on the apartment owner of the things they provide. Mostly gas, heater (not always), washer and dryer (depends on owner id they provide), fridge, these things are provided by the owner of the apartment.

Exams

  • For my course it's just IELTS. You could give GRE to get an edge but it's optional.
  • The university asks us about our projects, publications, copyrights, CV, 2-3 LORs and some Essay questions, they did not ask me to submit a SOP.

Fees

  • The tuition fees for my course is around $45,000 for one year and since it's a two year course, it's around $90,000 for the entire course. This fees can be lowered if you get scholarship from the university. Scholarships are granted to admitted students based on their profile and the form they submit to get into the university.
  • They usually offer 1 year fixed scholarship, and the same scholarship continues for the second year only if you maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and above at the end of the first year.
