Course Curriculum

10

  • The difficulty level is moderate, and I have to consistently study for good grades in my curriculum. It's a mix of both.

  • Positive: a. It gives me the freedom to take courses in any of the schools at NYU. b. It gives me plenty of professors to work with in my field of research.

  • Negative: There are not much of options in my curriculum, so I have to take courses from outside of my school, but within NYU.

  • There is usually one class in a day and three in a week in total. Each class has a length of 2.5 hrs.

  • There are on average 50 students.

  • Almost 50% of students are Indian.

Admission Experience

  • Applied in 7 uni’s (3- Admit, 4- Reject)

  • New York University, Northeastern University, State University of New York Buffalo,Carnegie Mellon University, University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, University of California San Diego

  • I feel maybe my letter of recommendation or my statement of purpose might not have met the expectations, but the universities I got rejected from also had class sizes of around 10, 60, 10, and 200, respectively.

  • I am interested in Research in Machine Learning, computer vision, and robotics, and NYU was best among my admits in these domains. The job aspects at NYU are also very good.

  • I applied for the priority deadline, but there is a final deadline as well. After that, the admissions started to roll in February. Some of the students who applied to MSCS got redirected to MSCE, and I was one of them. After getting admission, we have to pay the initial enrollment fee to confirm our admission, after which the process of VISA starts, like i20, then all VISA processes where NYU has helped us through various webinars.

  • Documents required for the application process for eligibility criteria at NYU:
    a. Resume,
    b. Transcript
    c. Statement of Purpose
    d. Letter of Recommendation(2).
    e. Test Score(GRE, and TOEFL/IELTS)

  • The Statement of Purpose was a bit challenging as it had these requirements:
Your total essay upload should be in 12 pt, Arial font and no more than two pages, double-spaced, in length. So, fitting everything on two pages, with double spaces, was a challenge.

  • In the Fall of 2024, I am interested in research, so it motivated me to the graduate program.

  • It took about 6 months, starting from October to ending in March. In the initial months, I prepared my documents like a statement of purpose and letter of recommendation and crafted my curriculum vitae for this application. I had my y=tgest scores available from July itself, so I used those t=for a smooth application process. I received my admission in March, after which I started my VISA process.

Faculty

10

  • The faculty ratio is 30:1, and there are plenty of research professors, industry professors, and adjunct professors as well. The ratio motivates the research environment, and the communication between students, and the professors.
  • The teaching methods are great. They try to elaborate and simplify the topics lucidly. Yes, the course content and teaching approach are sufficient to prepare you for securing a job in your field.
  • Yes, many of the faculty members assist students in finding part-time or full-time jobs through their personal networks or references, as many of the professors have industry connections and collaborations.
  • I admire Prof. Chen Feng, as he is a great researcher, and his research really aligns with my field of research. He is also a great teacher, and I very much enjoyed his robot perception course.

Campus Life

10

  • NYU has basically two campuses in New York City. One in Manhattan, and the other in Brooklyn.
  • All the campuses have been equipped with the same facilities, including libraries, sports complexes, and medical services.
  • The major festivals are Tech Fest, Diwali, New incoming students Orientation, New Year party, etc.
  • They celebrate events from all races around the world. Like Holi, Diwali, Lunar New Year, Dragon Fest, etc.

Part Time Jobs

  • As the class size is large, so there are few students only who secure Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) positions

  • 29.50/hr is the pay range for TA/RA/DA positions.

  • Yes there is, and 17$ is the pay rate for those.

  • 20 is the maximum hours of work allowed per week.

  • It is somewhat difficult to secure on campus part-time jobs.

  • 29.5$ students typically earn on an hourly basis in their part-time jobs. It is usually difficult to get a job on campus, or even part time. The process is to apply thorough Handshake to all the on campus jobs, otherwise the students can directly mail the professor for the RA/TA roles as well. I have secured an RA, and TA from cold emailing, and one TA by applying at Handshake.

Placement

8

  • 90% of my graduating batch secures employment within 6 months of completing their course.
  • 100k$ is the average salary range that most students in your program can expect to earn upon graduation.
  • Almost all of them. They find it online, or referral here.
  • Many have been placed in various companies around the globe.
  • Amazon, Google, Microsoft, DTCC, NVIDIA, Tesla, Meta.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I first made my roommates, and then we looked for online websites like Zillow, Craiglist, etc.
  • My monthly rent is 620$ for my location, and there is a refrigerator, microwave oven, dishwasher, and a room heater there.
  • The main problem was there was no one there who could verify the accommodation in person.
  • First make a group, then start looking for an apartment from May itself, because it takes time to get an apartment.
  • It's 6 miles from my location. Most of them stay in the same area where I live.

Exams

  • Exams: IELTS/TOEFL, GRE(optional). Many students opted for TOEL, and many for IELTS. As the GRE was optional, so most of the students didn't submit GRE scores.
  • Documents: SoP,(statement of purpose) LoR(letter of recommendation), CV(curriculum vitae)
  • No, there was no additional interview for the Master of Science program, I received my direct admission offer without any of the interviews.

Fees

  • 74000$, 2450$ for each credit, and the degree requirement is 30 credits. So, the credit * cost of each credit is the total tuition fee, which is 740000$.
  • Semester-wise, but according to credits taken in the respective semester. So, it is also not the same every semester.
  • 1000$(600 rent, 200 groceries, 200 - bills, 100 - miscellaneous). Some of my friends also spend around 1500 on monthly expenses.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I received a scholarship from NYU. It's a merit-based scholarship. I have to maintain a GPA higher than 3.33 each semester to be eligible for this scholarship.
  • A scholarship of 7000$ per year from NYU.
  • Yes, some of them also received the scholarship.
  • Around 50% of students, and on an average of 5000$. It is based on merit, so it fluctuates, based on the profile of the the students each year.
