Dislikes
- Cold temperatures harsh during winters
- Some classes just have alot of south indians, so beware and choose subjects wisely in electives
- Malpractice control isnt that much, and can be improved on canvas, other ed tech LMS systems.
Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- Pros—academic ties with Rockwell, northwestern mutual, Microsoft, and other reputed companies for Placement assistance. Cheaper in midwest, and really good fresh climate. Very close to Lake michigan, can go to the lake in ten to fifteen minutes of walking.
- Easy to find accommodation. Easy to find part-time on campus and can get a TAship too. I was a teaching assistant for two semesters. The con is that the wisconsin cold during winters is too harsh. It's almost -25 degrees celsius, and can be quite dangerous for people with little/no exposure to cold/snow. If you're not interested in your field of study, it will be really tough to find a job.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- My gpa during my UG at BITS Pilani was too low. And my GRE english wasn't great as well. They had applicants coming from 9/10 gpas, from local and normal indian colleges. These unis don't care about premier institutes in India. Many colleges have a strict 7.5 = 3/4 set up checked in their admission algorithm, etc.

Tips to enhance your application
- Strong GPA, Strong IELTS and GRE would be great. Get a professional SOP writer like MiM Essay or MBA crystal ball I would recommend getting a consultant and writing and draughting 5-6 essays. Apply and talk to the admissions committee before getting in and understand the college thoroughly.
Admission Experience
- Firstly, they have their own career counselling wing. You can decide on what kind of career you want to choose after/during your master's. For me, I was clear that tech consulting is the way to go! I joined the tech incubator and took a lot of ERP heavy/ data driven coursework. I entered wanting to become a product manager and came out needing heavy consulting experiences. I found a couple internships and a couple TAships, and I worked 1 different job each semester to experience the most out of my master's + MBA. AACSB for a business school is awesome and is rare. Academic work is rigorous, and I remember we had international German students who came on their MBA exchange program.
- They were quite close to me vs. the americans, cuz europeans are also foreign in the USA. Milwaukee is amazing and is the most happening city in Wisconsin. It's called the Brew city. Heavy sports culture. Popular courses at UW milwaukee are MS healthcare informatics, MS IT Management, MBA , MS CS, MS Data science, MS Financial analysis and MS Marketing. I did an MBA + MS ITM which is a dual merit course degree. I honestly miss my college, even walking around in that severe cold, and those green fields of lush greenery as well.
- Library was really welcoming and warm. Best feature is the pantry- every thursday students can get free groceries and can take unlimited groceries home depending on whatever suits you/your diet. Ex - tuna, chicken, bread, vegetables, oats, cereal, milk, etc. Frat culture in college is amazing. Nightlife in Milwaukee is awesome, however is not alot like Austin/dallas/chicago. Bonus point is that Milwaukee is only a 1-1.5 hr drive from Chicago so we can drive/visit anytime we wish. Pretty great location, on the shore of Lake michigan
Class Schedule
- 6-7, usually in evenings 2-4 or 5-7, sometimes 6-8 pm; some are during the morning, 10-12 am types. 40 Indians out of 120 students Assignments and self-study daily - 2 hours cooking - 2 hrs cleaning, house duties, working out and washing dishes take up to 2 hours more; sometimes groceries, etc., can also take out extra time, especially if we dont have a car.
Faculty
- 1:30 Kaushal chari, rafat el sharef, derek were amazing. Yes, they can refer to a TAship but usually not a full-time job. Faculty only usually teach, clarify doubts, and give us extra interview prep during the analytics track, the ML/AI track etc and it gets tough. So, we get support from Professors during that.
Campus Life
- It has only one campus in Milwaukee. Library, gym, huge sports facility, Med centre, even baby day care lol. Pantherfest and Geek Week are my favourites.
- Prominent desi clubs. One for conservative and one for liberal desis. Sports, cricket, and music-based clubs are also there. Some hippy fests and some good hindu festivals also happen (like diwali, holi etc)
Part Time Jobs
- Gas station, liquor store- off campus On campus: dorms, restaurants, drivers, dockers, stockers, coffee baristas, cashiers, cash counters, help desks, support staff, SI leaders, tutors, TAs, etc. TA ships pay us like 13/15 USD per hour.
- Some get a contract to pay salary- like 2600 for 3 months, etc. But usually, part-timers get students around 12-15 USD per hour. It is 20 hrs per week in a normal semester. In summer it gets to 40-60 hours a week, which is awesome to save money and stack cash.
- So this depends on GPA, courses and professors. Also has interviews during the TA process. We have to crack the interview to get it and also depends on the course. 6-7 out of 110 students got TAships during my batch. (Only indian figures) sometimes GPA, oratory skills, and past experience in engineering/data analytics skills can also help in getting GA/TA/RA ships.
Placement
- Depends on the field. In analytics, it's tough to get a job. Not so much, though, in consulting. 40 percent of my batch got jobs in 3-4 months prior to graduation. The average salary is $55k per annum. Engineering and data analysts make a lot compared to management/finance grads. Aim for business analytics/PM/UX research roles for money. Aim for ERP for an easy/convenient life without experience in India.
Accommodation
- Facebook and whatsapp groups. Beware of scammers and pakistani agents. If you want a single bedroom, you have to pay 600 usd per month, but if you're sharing, 250-300 is good. Recs for apartments- find independent houses on maryland/ farwell lns or find Apartment on N oakland ave ( throughout mke) Sheridan, Capitol crest, fountain view, Candlelight are the best apartments. Find near Hubbard beer garden for the best stay experience and peaceful locations.
