Course Curriculum

8

  • The coursework was a mix of both theory and practical. The positive aspect was that it was not much difficult and the negative aspect was that it had a lot of competition.
  • The classes and timings depend on the professor you choose and the campus. 3 classes were conducted per week and how many days in a week depends on us.
  • 30 students per class
  • 90% of students were Indians in my coursework.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to 4 colleges
    • University of north Texas at Denton
    • University of New Haven
    • University of Bridgeport
    • Sacred heart university
  • I have received confirmed admissions from university of New Haven, sacred heart university , and university of Bridgeport!
  • The University of north Texas rejected me.
  • The reason is that I was not matching their minimum requirement for CGPA 7.0. Everything else was fine.
  • I applied for fall 2022 in Feb 2022 and received my decision in 3-4 weeks; the entire process takes 3-4 weeks depending on how early you apply and seats.
  • The detailed timeline for all the documents:
    • Give any accepted test (1 day excluding preparation)
    • Write a strong personal essay (2-3 days).
    • Collect letter of recommendations (1-2 days)
    • Arrange all the documents (1 day).
    • Apply through portal (1 day)
    • Wait for a decision for a month.

Faculty

6

  • The ratio is 30:1 and it gives a good interaction with faculty to resolve our doubts ask questions and seek help.
  • It is definitely course content and also practical experience if they had any, depending on the professor.
  • The faculty members do assist if you get noticed by them or if you ask them personally and also help depending on faculty-student connectivity.
  • I admire Ahmet A. Özkul and Armando Rodriguez.

Campus Life

8

  • Yes, there is an app called navigate where you can access events happening daily on campus and there are a lot of free goodies.
  • There is an event called a career fair, which is of no use to international students. That can be skipped.
    • Health centre
    • Library
    • Gym
    • Sports
  • The Indian student council conducts all Indian festivals. Has performances and every country has a different student council.
  • Sports are mostly for local domestic students.

Part Time Jobs

  • 15-20$ per hour is the pay range.
    • Sodexo - food services
    • IT department
    • TA, RA
    • CLR hires part-time employees too
    • Career development center
    • REC centre
    • Graduate assistants
    • There is a portal for on-campus employment
    • Only 5% of students secure on-campus jobs.
    • It is very difficult to secure an on-campus job.
    • There is huge competition.
    • Students can try networking with seniors to get referred for an on-campus job.
    • Through the university portal, students can apply for on-campus jobs although it requires a lot of networking to do it, it is still possible if you’re smart enough and it helps you bear your living expenses off campus. It is important to carry your living expenses at least for the first 6 months so that you won’t be in trouble. This is the best way to secure an on-campus job.

Placement

4

  • Only 10% of the students secure full-time employment within 6 months of graduation.
  • The first step involved is to establish contacts since day 1 of the college and try to securing an internship and once you do an internship it’s easy to secure a full-time job and skill and experience are key factors to secure a job
  • Only one percent from each batch of international students secure full-time jobs.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • On campus Accommodation is expensive compared to off-campus. I would definitely recommend off-campus living.
  • $400-$500 is the rent.
  • WiFi common kitchen and sharing room
  • I had no challenges securing an accommodation. The lease agreement is important.
  • Stay off campus and save your expenses. Just half a mile from college.
  • Indian students stay in New Haven and west haven. It depends.

Exams

  • SAT (EBRW): 450 is minimum score
  • TOEFL: 75 is minimum score
  • IELTS: 6.0 is minimum score
  • Duolingo: 105 is minimum score
  • PTE: 53 is minimum score
  • GRE only for specific courses.
    • English language proficiency
    • SOP
    • LOR’s 2-3
    • Resume (CV)
    • Transcripts ( class 10,11,12) and include a bachelor's for a master's degree.
    • Copy of passport.
  • I didn’t have any interview.

Fees

  • The college has credit-based fees
  • My tuition fees for 2 years were $32,000.
  • I paid for cengage books during my coursework: $125 + $100.
  • I think I paid a $325 deposit to confirm my seat after accepting my offer.
  • Once you receive your I-20 then there are expenses related to visa processing.
  • Accommodation depends on the place you choose.
  • I lived off campus close to college
    • Rent: $400-$500 per month
    • Transportation: the college provides a student bus pass for $40 per semester (occasionally free) for public transport outside campus. College shuttles are free
  • Groceries would be : $150-300 depending on the what you want per month
  • Total estimate would be $800-$1000 if you were to be a bit lavish!

Scholarship

  • Names of scholarships: provost assistantships and dean’s scholarships (half of the fee is waived) have limited seats.
  • Most of my friends and batchmates received 10%, 20%, or 30% off the tuition depending on how early they applied for admission and merit.
  • I did not receive any scholarship. I think 20-30% receive scholarships every year by 10%, 20%, and 30%.
