Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- There are some crucial factors that made me think San Jose State was a better university; one of them was the location of the city. Being in the heart of Silicon Valley, it is easier to obtain internships or co-ops in this location. The tuition fees are relatively lower, and there are a good number of part-time jobs available.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- Not sure of all the exact reasons and most of it is because I applied very late and I missed most of the deadlines as I wasn't sure about doing my master's in the US. Also, the recession is one of the reasons that made me think twice about this decision.

Tips to enhance your application
- I feel like its important to have GPA for the particular course and also the reputation of your undergrad university and the office where you worked might also play an important role.I have made my resume like a story of my journey of ups and downs of my life and academics.
Admission Experience
- I chose this country mainly because I have my friends and relatives here and it would be easier for me to stay with them. San Jose State, mainly because of the location and also because of the tuition fees. It is very cheap compared to the similar reputed university. It is in the heart of Silicon Valley, which made it easier to get an internship.
Class Schedule
- Generally, classes are hybrid and offline. Depending on the course and professor you choose, its either offline or online. The classes for graduates in SE are mostly in the evenings (from 6-8:45pm) but it might vary depending on the professor and course.
- There are more than half of the Indians in my class and I barely see any diversity, at least in masters.
Faculty
- Most of the professors are industry experts or working professionals. They teach you the concepts very well and also try to cover a lot of details in return, you will have to work on it after the classes.
- The classes are limited so you will have to do your own research and work on it.Students can schedules meetings with professors whenever they want or in the office hours given.
Campus Life
- I am personally not involved in many of the clubs and other events. I seldom find these interesting but I can see that there are always some or other types of events going on.
- Most of the master's students don't generally focus on these as most of the undergrads are in the clubs. There is a great library that students have access to until midnight so that's a great place to be.
Part Time Jobs
- The average pay is 17 to 18 dollars per hour and it can vary.
- Most of the students prefer to work on campus, but generally they would get after the 1st semester and hardly anyone would get on campus during their first semester. Most of us apply in the portal called Handshake, and it's widely used here.
- The typical range of the part-time pay is around 16 to 20 dollars so depending on the part-time job that you do, generally it varies. Also, the TA and RA roles are relatively tough to get, as there would be a lot of competition for them.
- There are other on-campus jobs, like in dining commons, Starbucks, student union, pantry, and others. Max working hours are 20 for international students.
Placement
- The full-time opportunities are comparatively high compared to those of other universities. I haven't graduated yet but in the previous years, there were many out here who got full-time after graduation. Most of the salaries are high as they have to pay high taxes here. Civil and other streams have relatively high jobs but even software companies recruit a lot here.
Accommodation
- We have our friends who used to stay here and suggested some apartments but in general, its easier to search on the net or Facebook groups that post about accommodations.
- They also have dorms to stay in on campus and there are also buildings near campus. Challenges are finding better roommates and good accommodation where everyone is helpful.
