Course Curriculum

10

  • In engineering management, we have the subjects that need Excel, Word, and PowerPoint in order to do our homework, and the syllabus is very easy to study, and usually we don't find it difficult, but here in this course we are required to complete the prerequisite.
  • We usually have 3 hours per course per week so if you choose to have 3 subjects, then 9 hours of class you will be attending. The numbers of students vary with the subjects that we have chosen because a lot of other students from different backgrounds might attend the same lecture but usually I find more than 70 students in our classes; Indian students might be around 30 to 50; I don't know exactly.

Admission Experience

  • I have applied in 4 to 5 universities for my masters in engineering management after completion of my bachelor's in Chemical Engineering
  • Here is the list
  • UAB, university of Alabama at Birmingham
  • CSU East bay
  • San jose state university
  • University of new haven
  • Michigan technological universities
  • Missouri science and technological university
  • I only got rejected in Michigan technological University, and i think that is because i didn't have the same background for my master; that might be a reason
  • One of the best things was its ranking.
  • Another things is public university
  • Third, its price and last, i liked the subjects that I'm going to study here
  • Once I decided to go to this university, I started finding out the criteria, and I got to know that I needed WES evaluation, so once I completed that and got a score, and then they selected me, but from my perspective, you can start the application in the beginning, and then once you have WES evaluation, you can submit it.
  • I was in the 6th semester when I wanted to join SJSU and I completed my exam for that same and before the 7th semester, I started my application for Fall 24 in November, and the process went so long till March, and then in April I got the offer letter from the university. But here we required the wes evaluation, so the competition for getting the admissions is less competitive and we can apply here till May or June as far as knowledge.

Faculty

10

  • The faculty-to-student ratio is moderate so at the end of the class, if you need any kind of guidance, professors are very open to talking; you just need to tell them that you want to talk or you have a query. They also have special time to discuss every week if you have any doubts.
  • Teaching methodologies are very nice; they have PPT and they explain the things in very deep and we can always ask.
  • The teaching that they provided is very accurate for the industry standards.
  • I never asked teachers to help me get jobs but I will ask them.
  • I admire the most Anil Kumar; he is very nice at teaching, and the way he asked questions in the exams is very accurate based on practical knowledge that we gain.

Campus Life

10

  • We have only one campus here; here in the SJSU we have all the facilities, including the gym, swimming pool, and ground for different activities like basketball, volleyball, pickleball, etc.
  • There are lots of clubs that organise Indian activities like celebrations of Diwali, Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Holi.
  • I have been joined in 2 major clubs: one is an Indian student organisation, and the other is Spartan Analytics.

Part Time Jobs

  • These positions are very competitive and all the students apply for them, but usually these positions pay around 17 to 20 dollars per hour.
  • Other than this, we have jobs like dining commons and student assistants (basically work at desks). For this position, the pay rate is 17.5 dollars.
  • I think that we are allowed to work around 20 hours per week but we usually get 12 to 14 hours.
  • Its very competitive and hard to secure.
  • Studbets in their part-time jobs get around 700 to 900 dollars per month, and as I said earlier, its very competitive to secure the jobs here. For the process or applications, we are supposed to get through handshake and compass and we can also apply on the SJSU website if there are any new open positions available. We just need to have resumes for these openings.

Placement

8

  • After completing the master in engineering management, we can work in many of the industries for supply chain roles, product development, and project management.
  • I heard that in San Jose we all get the job within the months but still, its very competitive so some students do not get into this and eventually they extend their master.
  • Here the application process is the same, just need for resume and openings and we need to apply in 1000 to 3000 companies in order to get the job and here in engineering management, its not as tough as software and computer engineering students; I dont have experience of placement yet so i dont know and major top companies can secured by some students, you can just name it and you will find someone from this university

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I have found my accommodations online on the site, according to the community; we were never here before so we didnt have any contacts but the online process is very convenient so we didn't face any difficulty. The rent here is 600 and the utilities are around $50 per person. It includes the in-house laundry and all the basic things that we need. We didn't get any challenges while finding the accommodations.
  • My accommodation is 1.2 miles from the campus but the buses are so frequent that we can reach home in just 20 minutes.
  • And I would suggest going for Avalon on the Alameda 1300 for your accommodation if you find the price very low.

Exams

  • Here, San Jose State University requires IELTS and TOFEL, but GRE is optional for some departments, so that is not needed. The application that I have done required only LOR, CV, and SOP, and they also required to have a bank statement in order to process the application.
  • And I didn't have any kind of interview for the admissions process. But once we get the offer letter, we have to get through the visa interview.

Fees

  • My entire course needs 30 credits of subjects without considering pre-requisites
  • My master is for 2 years and it cost me around 32k to 34k for my entire coursework.
  • In addition to this, we have to pay for health insurance, which costs $800 for fall and $1100 for spring, including summer. And same for the next year.
  • My fees can be paid through an education loan or case (not sure if they allot, but I heard of it). Here one subject costs around 3k so by this we can calculate the rest of the fees.
  • Monthly expenses are mainly for rent and utilities, which is around 650 per person here in San Jose.

Scholarship

  • As an international student, we do have one scholarship and I applied for it beforehand but I didn't get any responses, neither from my batchmates. I don't know how it works but as far as my knowledge concerns, we have to maintain a 3.8 + GPA score in order to qualify for scholarships. I'm in my first semester right now so I don't know much about it but once I complete my first year, I will have a better idea.
  • I never heard of anyone who got the scholarships till now and to be frank, the scholarship amount is mentioned on their portal but as of now I don't know anyone who got the scholarships so I have no idea what exact amount they pay.
