Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • The curriculum of the university is good, especially for electrical engineers who are looking for opportunities in Digital Electronics like me. The knowledge gained here will help any individual to excel at the skills required to achieve their dreams.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

  • There are some academic cutoffs to get admission to that college and also I'm unable to meet the marks cutoff in IELTS.
  • So, that is the main reason for my rejection from that university. Also, there are some other factors like the climate and location of that university, which made me drop that university.

Tips to enhance your application

  • GPA evaluation like WES or ACEI. Usually, students go with WES evaluation, which can be used to apply for any University and they can have the report. Some of them will go for ACEI, which is directly sent to universities.

Admission Experience

  • I chose San Jose State University, as it is located in California, where the weather is not so wild during both winters and summers. The University also has a good ranking in the state when compared with all the California State Universities (CSUs).
  • And SJSU has a strong curriculum for the Electrical Engineering graduates and as it is located in Silicon Valley, it is an added benefit of getting graduated from this university.

Class Schedule

10

  • Usually, for each course there are 2 lecture hours per week for graduate students. All the classes are scheduled during evening times only. The students are from various countries; no dominance can be seen and they might need to work some extra time to finish the assignments.
  • Sometimes if the students are not given the required time for the assignments, they may not be able to finish them.

Faculty

10

  • Faculty are very friendly and very interactive with the students. They are very active in making students understand the idea of the courses and help every student who approaches them for any help. They will hire students as Student Assistant based on their requirements. They will also refer students based on their talents in the companies.

Campus Life

10

  • Our university has various departments other than Science and Engineering blocks. There are some departments like music and arts for the respective students. They also have their respective clubs and each of the clubs has its own organisations to operate and conduct the events. For every semester, they conduct various events like welcoming events and fundraising events and also some volunteer organisations come and provide their services, which encourages students during their college times.
  • We have a very vast library and have access to all the reference books that are required for our academics and many published articles, which helps students to do their project works and research. As a graduate student in the Electrical Engineering department, I got an opportunity to explore the courses like Digital Design and SystemVerilog-based Verification and also Logic Verification with Unified Verification Methodology (UVM), which is very much helpful for someone like me who is looking for opportunities in Digital Electronics.
  • The faculty are very well experienced and also use all their experience in making the students understand the complexities in VLSI design. The labs are also equipped with the most updated and real-life tools from Synopsys and Cadence.
  • Our university also encourages the students to excel their skills in co-curricular activities like basketball and Soccer. Unfortunately, I'm not that interested in any sports, so I did not participate in any tournaments but I have been to many events and tournaments at the Spartan Stadium and the Indoor stadium at our college.
  • Apart from these activities, we have the Indian Student Organisation and also the International Student Organisation, which conduct the events and also some religious activities for students who are interested in their religious beliefs and who want to celebrate their festivals and could not go back to their families in their home countries.

Part Time Jobs

  • Mostly the Indian students work at the student unions and also at the University Dining Commons, where the people who are residing on the campus can go and have their food. Some are also working as food service workers at the Student Union.
  • To get these jobs, they can apply on the Campus website and go through the Interview process to get hired.
  • Part-time opportunities are widely available for students who are willing to work at any food service job or else any office work or else provide service for students who need some help in student unions or any administrative work, and also students can also work as TAs or RAs under professors based on their needs.

Placement

10

  • Here at SJSU, people graduate from various master's programs like Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering ,Software Engineering, etc. They easily get jobs based on their interests soon after their master's, and some get the jobs while doing their master's.
  • Some students who cannot get the jobs during the master's will try to get an Internship from the companies and then try for the Full time jobs.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • The process of searching for off-campus accommodation is very easy here. Sometimes during the welcome week, the housing communities will come to educate students about the situations here and they also provide visits to their communities, which are very near and comfortable for students to stay in.
  • There are many communities around the university that are available for students who are coming from other countries.
