Required Exams for Admission

TOEFL (110)
IELTS (7)

My experience has been great. The university fosters inclusivity with numerous Indian clubs and events. While the overall curriculum was good, I expected more in terms of the technology taught and course selections. The campus life and supportive community have made my journey amazing.

Course Curriculum

8

The course curriculum varies; some have updated content, while others cover outdated material. However, the program offers ample opportunities for industrial exposure through internships/Co-ops. The presence of dedicated advisers greatly assists in securing these valuable experiences.

Faculty

7

In my experience, the faculty-to-student ratio varies, typically around 100 students per instructor. The ratio may fluctuate based on course significance. For instance, in critical courses with only one class per week, the ratio might increase to 200 students per instructor. Professor Jagadeesh Vasudevamurthy, who teaches Program Structures and Algorithms, is outstanding. He imparts industry-level coding skills and thoroughly prepares us for interviews.

Campus Life

7

Campus life is vibrant with numerous events throughout the year. The Fall Fair at the beginning of the semester provides opportunities to join clubs and engage with student government. The library is extensive, offering excellent WiFi, and the recreation center is well-equipped for gymnastics, cardio, and various sports activities. There's a wide array of extracurricular activities, contributing to a lively and engaging campus environment.

Placement

7

Two years ago, the average post-study placement for my program was high. However, the current job market downturn and increased university enrollment have heightened competition. Northeastern University facilitates placements through NUWorks, an exclusive portal for job postings. Unfortunately, as a first-semester student, I am not yet eligible to access NUWorks. Nonetheless, I have heard positive feedback from seniors about the platform.

Accommodation

Off Campus
6

Accommodations near the university can be pricey, leading many to share one-bedroom apartments with 4-5 people. While some opt for larger units in places like Jamaica Plain and Roxbury for affordability, safety concerns arise for nighttime commuting. Others, like myself, choose residences in safer neighborhoods like Brighton or Allston, albeit with longer commutes (45 mins to 1 hour). The cost varies; in Jamaica Plains and Brighton/Allston, private rooms range from $700-$900, and sharing rooms range from $550-$700 based on the location.

Exams

My scores: IELTS 8.0 Minimum scores: IELTS - 6.5, TOEFL - 110/120 No GRE Required. I had to write a kind of personal statement called SOP, and I also got two recommendation letters - one from my college, another from work. In the SOP, I explained why I picked this course and university, connecting it to my goals.
