- I chose this university because it’s school of business was highly ranked (Kelley School of Business is top 8 business schools in the US). I also loved the campus because it’s very beautiful and felt like home. I chose to major in Finance because I’m mathematically inclined and like working with numbers.
Required Exams for Admission
I love it at Indiana University. The campus is so pretty and it is so easy to go on long walks through campus and feel an amazing energy all around you. It’s also easy to find somewhere to sit and do work or relax or hang out with friends. Everyone here has a lot of school spirit and there’s an amazing sense of community at such a big school. I met some of my lifelong friends here and got some amazing opportunities through extracurricular involvements and networking. I’ve grown a lot professionally and personally and I owe that to this school.
Course Curriculum
I think the first two years at the Kelley School of Business prepare you really well to enter most fields in business. They give you a lot of applicable and relevant knowledge. The second two years give you a lot of knowledge specific to your interests and prepare you to enter the industry more than most other new grads are prepared.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is on average 1 faculty member to 80 students. Typically, the class sizes are big (ranging from 30-200 students). The faculty are very well versed in the content but typically care about students. However, some faculty members are hard to get a hold on because of class sizes or personality. One professor that really left an impact on me is Beth Fossen. She cares a lot about students and goes out of her way to show that. She’s also very knowledgeable and always wanting to share that knowledge.
Campus Life
There are lots of opportunities to get involved on campus in a large variety of clubs. Clubs range from not competitive at all to very selective , it depends on your interest but there’s a lot of opportunities regardless. There’s three main sports facilities and a large focus on athletics, so students have a chance to play many different sports. There’s also a lot of research facilities and two main libraries for students to study at and get academically involved.
Placement
In the business school, there’s a close to 100% placement rate for jobs right after graduation. Lots of students will either go for their MBA or straight for a job and either way every student has a secure future after undergrad. Lots of big companies like Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, etc will visit the school and host events for students to learn more about opportunities and network with employees. I believe the median annual salary for business school students is around 90000 USD.
Accommodation
If you’re living in a dorm you can look to spend an average of 5000 USD per semester. If you’re living in an apt, leases are getting expensive so you can look to spend an average of 900 USD per month for rent. If you’re living in an apt you will also have to pay for utilities unless provided. Meal plans cost 4000 USD in a year but you can opt out and buy your own groceries.
Exams
IU is test optional so students can choose to not submit their standardized test scores. The average range is 1230-1420 on the SAT for students that submit scores. I scored a 1550 on my SAT (770 Math and 780 English). I was in the top 12% of my class (in the United States). I took a mix of AP and honors courses. Had to submit two LOR’s and a general application with background info, academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, etc. I did not have any interviews or tests to take. I had to write some supplemental essays but that was all. The key to those is to do extensive research on the university and to be genuine.
Fees
The university raises their fees almost every year, so as an out of state student I am currently paying around 19,000 USD for tuition per semester (38000 USD in the year). This does not include housing fees and meal plans.
