Ph.D. (Molecular Biology & Biotechnology) From Cotton University, Guwahati

Aspirants seeking admission to 3 year Full-time Ph.D. should meet the following criteria as specified by the institute:

1. A Master's Degree or equivalent from a recognized university/institute with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a subject related to the Ph.D discipline to which applied.

2. PG 4th Semester students are also permitted to apply for admission into the PhD program. However, their candidature will be considered subject to fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria.

3. A relaxation of 5% in marks will apply to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD, EWS, and other such categories as specified in case of admission in an institution under the Government of Assam.

4. While determining the eligibility of a candidate subject to conditions i., ii. and iii. listed above, grace marks or points awarded in the qualifying examination, if any. will not be counted.

5. An entrance test of 70 marks will be conducted for admission into the PhD program. Candidates securing 50% marks or above in the entrance test will qualify to appear for a personal interview/viva voce of 30 marks to be conducted separately for each department/center.

6. The entrance test syllabus shall consist of 50% research methodology and 50% subject-specific content.

7. Candidates qualified for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE, ICMR, DBT examinations, and similar national-level examinations, shall be allowed to appear directly in personal interview/viva-voce. In their case, selection shall be based on their performance in the interview only.

8. Candidates who qualify for NET in Category 2 or Category 3 in the NET examination of June 2024 or later will be exempted from the entrance test.

9. The Cotton University Entrance Test/NET score shall carry 70% weightage while the personal interview shall carry 30% weightage in the final selection of the candidates.

10. Candidates who have cleared NET or SLET in related disciplines may be eligible for a 5% relaxation in qualifying marks of the entrance test.

11. All candidates, including the candidates exempted from entrance test subject to points vii. and viii. must apply for admission into the selection process.

12. Candidates will be shortlisted for admission into the PhD program considering the number of declared vacancies by the department, the research interest of the candidates and performance in the interview. The University reserves the right to not fill up a vacant seat (s) if suitable candidates are not found.

13. All selected research scholars must comply with the conditions of the PhD program. Attendance in PhD Coursework classes is compulsory for all research scholars. Scholars with less than 75% attendance shall be debarred from appearing in the Ph.D coursework examination.

Application Fee for Ph.D: Rs. 1200/-
