Getting CSE at Thapar University as well as Jaypee Noida (JIIT) , which college should I choose?

Had you asked this question 4-5 years ago, the common answer would have been Thapar University. However, things have changed a lot in the last few years. Here are some reasons why I would suggest you to go for JIIT Noida for your B.Tech CSE-

The crowd quality at Thapar University has gone down drastically. The reasons behind this are a 50% quota for Punjab students and the enormous increase in the number of seats. Both these actions have resulted in very low cut offs. The cutoff rank for Punjab students in JEE Mains is 1.5 Lakh+ for CSE department. The closing rank of JIIT Noida for the same is around 51 K+. Thus, the crowd is better in JIIT Noida as compared to Thapar.
The batch size at Thapar University is much bigger than JIIT N. Thapar University has a batch size of 1200+ students for Computers while JIIT Noida has a batch size of only 250+ students. A smaller batch size means more placement opportunities and better attention towards the learning of each student.
Location-wise, NCR offers more opportunities than Patiala. You will get numerous opportunities in NCR like trade shows, conferences, training, better placements, etc. Gurgaon and Noida are the new IT Hubs, second only to Bangalore and at par with Hyderabad and Pune. As a CSE student, you should prefer Noida over Patiala.
Though Thapar University has a bigger campus of 250 acres, your life will mostly revolve around your classrooms, nearby areas and your hostel. Thus, the smaller campus of JIIT N should not be that big an obstacle.
The average package for B.Tech CSE is around INR 13.28 LPA at JIIT Noida, which is better than Thapar University in which the average package for the UG stream stands at around INR 10.97 LPA. Studying at JIIT Noida is also around 30-40% cheaper than Thapar.

Thus, at present, CSE from JIIT Noida is a much better choice.

It has a good placement record as well. According to the recent placement highlights, MAIT Delhi average package is around INR 4.5 LPA. The highest package goes up to INR 40 LPA. TCS, Amazon, Infosys, etc. are among the major recruiters to visit the campus placement.

CSE at JIIT is clearly better than ECE at Thapar. You must have a minimum JEE rank of 51,000 to get CSE at JIIT Noida.

There are no state quota, caste quota, or NRI quota at JIIT but Thapar offers a 50% quota for Punjab state students. This results in a superior quality of students at JIIT Noida than Thapar. Due to quotas and an increase in the number of seats, anyone can get admission at Thapar University.

If a student has a 300,000 rank in JEE Main, he will not be able to gain a seat anywhere, but if he is from Punjab, he may be able to secure a place in Electrical Engineering in Thapar. This explains how Thapar's situation has deteriorated.

JIIT will offer you great exposure which is actually required in CSE with regular industrial visits. CSE has more scope in terms of placements than ECE.

Thapar University in all aspects is a lot better than JIIT. But I am not quite aware of the EIC branch. You can interact with ex-students of the institute online, to get a better idea about the course. If you think it will be a better choice, go for it.

According to placements, Thapar is much better than JIIT Noida.
Most of the companies that participate in Thapar’s placement program are well reputed like Microsoft, Infosys, and many more.
Thapar provides a better industrial exposure to their students.
After graduating from Thapar you can opt for both government and private sectors.

NIT Hamirpur will offer you the prestigious ‘NIT’ tag. As compared to other colleges in this region, the environment over there is superior. By environment I mean the learning, interaction and personal development offered at an institution. The placements are continuously improving with new companies visiting the campus each year, offering better packages. This college has shown positive growth in terms of exposure and student- teacher interaction as well.

Even though I’m a student of NIT Hamirpur, my opinion is devoid of such biases. Thus, according to me, NIT Hamirpur is a better choice for your CSE program.

Being a student of Jaypee myself, I can say that Thapar’s placement records are better, especially recently.

Should I choose CS at JIIT Noida or BIET Jhansi?

There is no surety about JIIT Noida, but- BIET JHANSI is a government college and ranks at 3 in UPTU. It has a very large campus with all facilities and placements are also good. While JIIT is a private institute. So, there is no comparison between BIET and JIIT. As we know that there are a number of private colleges in every nook and corner but government colleges are rare.

Here are some highlights of the CS program at BIET Jhansi.

Infrastructure:

On campus, you will have ample resources to enhance your coding skills like free LAN. You can also count on the seniors to provide useful hacks but it does not include the faculty.

Placement:

At campus, most of the offers are made by TCS. However, you can always opt for off-campus placement. Alumni of this college are even placed in Adobe
Placements from college are merely in TCS but you have many options for off-campus placements. Alumni are even placed at Adobe.

JIIT can make any college Jealous!!

Likes

Nearly 20 odd workshops have been included in our course and it will be around 30 by the time I finish.
Academics wise our college rocks as it has one of the best courses.

Dislikes

The fees of hostel keeps increasing every year and this shouldn't have happened.

Fees and Financial Aid:

JIIT Noida is a marvel made by Jaypee group. Our college is better equipped and build than highways that Jaypee group has built and the fees is still only 3 lakhs a year. Scholarships mostly on merit as caste based scholarships are quite slim here.
