Avinashilingam University offers a full-time and a part-time degree programme in Doctor of Philosophy. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programme is designed to provide a candidate with an opportunity to obtain expertise through intensive research. The degree is awarded to a candidate based on original and wide ardent research in any particular discipline or interdisciplinary that contributes to the advancement of knowledge, which is approved by the board of examiners as required. 

There shall be the following categories for the Ph.D. Programme:

  • Full-Time Research Scholar (with or without stipend or fellowship) 
  • Part-Time Research Scholar

Note: Avinashilingam University issues notification for Ph.D. admission four times a year for full-time scholars, while for part-time candidates, only once a year during February.

Avinashilingam University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have qualified for a Master’s degree in the faculty of Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education, Business Administration and Engineering (10+2+3+2 pattern)
  • OR M.Phil. degree in 10+2+3+2+1 pattern of this university or any other university recognized are eligible.
  • Admission to Ph.D. can be either a Master’s or M.Phil. degree.

Avinashilingam University Ph.D. Selection Process

The selection shall be based on both written test and interview:

  • The written test shall comprise an of objective 75 marks and examine the research aptitude, grasp of the subject and intellectual ability of the proposed candidate.
  • The interview shall be conducted for 25 marks. The candidates qualified in UGC/CSIR/NET/SLET/FIP or candidates working with sponsored 10 research project or university research studentship candidate shall be exempted from written test and they have to appear for the interview only.

Registration for PhD Program

There shall be the following categories registered for the Ph.D. Programme:

  • Full-Time Research Scholar (with or without stipend or fellowship)
  • Part-Time Research Scholar, candidates belonging to any of the above categories may register at University Departments coming under these regulations.

Full-Time

 6 Research Scholars within this category are those who pursue their full-time doctoral research under the guidance of a Research Supervisor at Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore.

Part-Time

 Research scholars within this category are those who are presently employed either on a regular or temporary basis with a minimum of 2 years of continuous service/experience in Institutes/Universities/colleges, who may pursue their doctoral research under the guidance of a Research Supervisor on a part-time basis.

How to Apply?

The candidates desirous of registering for Ph.D. at Avinashilingam University shall apply in the prescribed application form downloaded from the University website. A Demand draft for the sum of INR 600 drawn in favour of ‘The Registrar, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore-43’ has to be attached while submitting the duly completed application form.
