Sambalpur University Course Admission 2025: Dates, Fees, Eligibility, Application Process, Selection Criteria

Sambalpur University offers M.A., M.Sc., MPA, M.A./M.Sc., M.L.I.Sc. and L.L.M. at the postgraduate level. All the PG level courses are for a duration of two years.

The M.A. course is offered with seven different specialization subjects, the M.Sc. course is offered with seven different specialization subjects and the M.A./M.Sc. course is offered with four different specialization subjects. The minimum eligibility for all the masters courses is a pass in graduation in the respective field of study with the candidate having at least 45% marks, except for LLM under which the candidate must have done Graduation in Law under 5 year integrated LLB Course/3 year LL.B course.

Selection

Selection for admission into different Courses shall be done through Written Entrance Test (with coding and decoding system), and Career marks weightage to which should be given as follows:

• Written Entrance Test - 70%
• Career Marks - 30%

For admission to Master’s in Performing Arts (MPA), weightages shall be given as follows:

• Written Entrance Test - 30%
• Career Marks 30%
• Performance and Viva-Voce 30%
• Experience in Performing Arts 10%

Key Note:

• Any graduate with required percentage can appy to Anthropology course, but the candidates with bachelor’s in Anthropology will be given preference at the time of admission.
•  Candidates with Home Science as Honours or Pass Subject in graduation will be given preference at the time of admission.
• For MBA, the candidate will be admitted to the college based on MAT score and if the candidate has not given MAT exam then on the basis of the entrance test conducted by the university. 
• The absence of a candidate from the entrance exam will be considered his disqualification from the admission.
• A candidate belonging to NCC or NSS will be given 5% additional marks over and above the aggregate marks.
• The Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology under Sambalpur University also offers B.Tech., M.Tech, M.Sc. and M.C.A. degrees under various specializations for candidates willing to pursue in the technology field.

Sambalpur University, apart from the regular PG courses, also offers various self-financing courses at the postgraduate level which includes M.A, M.Sc., MSW, M.Tech. and M.B.A. degrees.

The M.Sc., M.Tech and M.B.A. course is of two years duration except for Executive MBA which is offered for a duration of three years.The minimum eligibility for all the masters’ courses is a pass in graduation in the relevant subject with minimum of 45% marks

Selection

The selection under Executive MBA is done on the basis of :

• Written Test – 40%
• Career – 30%
• Exeperience – 30%

Key Note:

• Under MSW, the in – service candidates will be given a relaxation of 5% in the qualifying marks.
• Under MBA Executive, for each completed year of experience, 3 marks shall be given to the candidate to a maximum of 30 marks i.e 3 marks per year for a maximum of 10 years.

Sambalpur University offers a one-year M.Phil course in 17 different specializations whereas, Ph.D. course is offered for the duration of three years under 24 departments. Basic eligibility is a pass in the relevant Master’s degree with 55% marks in aggregate. Admission is offered on the basis of marks in the Entrance Test followed by Viva-Voce and Interview rounds.

• Candidates with Master’s degree in Life Science or allied subject are eligible for admission to M.Phil (Life Science).
• Candidates with Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Technology or Science-Based subject are eligible for admission to M.Phil (Environmental Science).
• Master degree holders in the stream of Political Science are also eligible for admission to M.Phil (Public Administration).
• Subject to the minimum eligibility criteria, MCA, M.Tech, M.Sc (CSE/ IT) degree holders are also eligible for admission to M.Phil (Computer Science).
• Those students who are pursuing Diploma in Sambalpur Studies can apply for admission to M.Phil in English, Odia, History, Sociology and Anthropology provided they have fulfilled the minimum eligibility criteria followed by an entrance test. There is no bar in the qualifying marks for SC/ ST categories.

Exemption from Ph.D. Entrance Test

• UGC/ CSIR NET/ GATE/ ICAR/ ICMR qualified candidates.
• Those who have passed M.Tech/ M.E or M.Phil from Sambalpur University or any other university provided that they have secured admission in these courses through entrance test.

Key Points:

• 25% seats are reserved for the Teachers/ Librarians having at least five years of working experience in a recognized College.
• 22.5% and 16.25% seats in each course are reserved for ST and SC categories respectively.
• One seat in each discipline (both in PG and M.Phil program combined) is reserved for PH candidates.

M.Phil Selection Criteria: Admission will be granted on the basis of marks in the entrance, career marks and viva-voce. Weightage for different parameters is tabulated below:

Note: Relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying marks will be offered to the candidates belonging to the categories of Ex-Defence Personal and participants of Inter-University or State Sports Team.

M.Phil & Ph.D. Application Process 2024

1. Visit the official website of Sambalpur University and click on ‘Online Admission’.

2. Download the application form and pay the application fee of INR 500 (INR 1500 for Ph.D. through State Bank Collect.

3. Send the duly filled application form to:

Documents required to be attached

• Undertaking Form signed by the applicant and his/ her guardian

Sambal University also offers MBA, PG Diploma and Certificate course under Distance Education On-Campus courses. The MBA course and the certificate course is offered for a duration of three years. The one year PG DIploma course is offered with nine different specialization subjects.

Admission to these courses are based entirely on merit and no entrance examination is conducted for these courses.

Sambalpur University also offers various courses as Distance Education off-campus courses. These courses include B.A. (Pass and Hons.) with four different specializations as well as B.Com (Pass and Hons.) and B.C.A. degrees. All these UG level courses are for a duration of three years.

At the PG level, the University offers M.B.A , M.C.A. (regular and lateral entry) and PG diploma course in Computer Applications. The M.B.A. course is offered for a duration of two years. The M.C.A. course through regular entry is for a duration of three years, whereas, M.C.A. through lateral entry is for a duration of two years. The PG Diploma course is offered for a duration of one year.

Admission to all these courses are based on the merit of the candidates in the qualifying examination. No entrance tests are conducted for these courses generally.
