International Institute for Population Sciences Mumbai Course Admission 2025: Dates, Fees, Eligibility, Application Process, Selection Criteria

Eligibility 

• Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university in any subject with 55% marks in aggregate.
• Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam can also apply.
• The upper age limit is 25 years.

Selection Criteria 

• Selection is based on the entrance exam, conducted by the college.

The exam will contain objective type questions from the following topics: Basic General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Basic Mathematics, Population, Health, and Social Science Issues.

IIPS offers only 1 specialization in M.Sc. i.e. Biostatistics and Demography.

Eligibility

• Candidates must have passed B.A./B.Sc. degree in Biostatistics/ Health Statistics/ Mathematics/ Statistics or B.A./B.Sc. degree with two full papers on Mathematics or Statistics from a recognized university in India or abroad with 55% (50% for reserved candidates) aggregate marks/ equivalent grade in all subjects.
• Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam can also apply.
• The upper age limit is 25 years.

Selection Criteria 

• Selection is based on the online entrance test.
• The paper will contain MCQs from the following topics: General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Population, Health and Statistics/Mathematics.

Eligibility 

• Candidates must have a M.A./M.Sc. degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% (50% for reserved candidates) in the subjects: Anthropology, Geography, Biostatistics, Economics, Development Studies, Political Science, Health Statistics, Mathematics, Population Education, Population Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Rural Development, and Statistics.
• Candidates having a Master degree, other than above specified subjects with at least two years of work experience in Population and Health related fields are also eligible.
• Final year students can also apply.
• The upper age limit of application is 28 years. 

Selection Criteria

• Selection is based on the entrance exam conducted by the college followed by Personal Interview
• Final selection list will depend upon the student’s performance in both the rounds.

The exam will be of objective type and contains questions from General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Basic Mathematics, Population, Health and Social Science issues.

There are 2 specializations in M.Phil. and Integrated M.Phil/Ph.D namely: Population Studies and Biostatistics & Demography.

Eligibility

• Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Population Studies/ Demography/ Biostatistics and Epidemiology/ Biostatistics & Demography/ Biostatistics with 55% marks (50% marks for Reserved categories) in aggregate.
• Those who have qualified UGC/CSIR-JRF or any other national level fellowship are also eligible to apply for Integrated M.Phil./Ph.D. course.
• Final year candidates can also apply.
• The upper age limit is 30 years.

Selection Criteria

Selection Criteria for M.Phil:

• Selection to M.Phil. is a 2 stage process: online entrance test and personal interview.
• Candidates first need to appear in the entrance test conducted by the college in an online mode.
• Applicants who qualify the entrance exam will be called for the personal interview.
• Final selection will depend upon students’ performance in both the rounds.

Selection Criteria for Integrated M.Phil/ Ph.D:

• Selection to Integrated M.Phil/Ph.D. is a 3 stage process: online entrance test, written test (research proposal ) and personal interview.
• The online entrance test is the qualifying test.
• Candidates who qualify the entrance test are further called for writing a research proposal and personal interview rounds.
• The final selection is done on the basis of performance in online entrance test, written test and personal interview.

NOTE - The online entrance test will contain MCQs from the following topics: English, Logical Reasoning, Statistics, Mathematics, Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Population Studies, Demography, and Epidemiology.

Eligibility Criteria 

• Candidates must have secured 55% marks in M.Phil. (Population Studies/ Demography/ Bio-statistics & Demography/ Biostatistics & Epidemiology).
• Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR-JRF or any other national level fellowship can also apply. 
• Final year candidates are also eligible.
• The upper age limit of applicants is 30 years. 

Selection Criteria 

• A candidate is scrutinized based on 3 rounds: online test, research proposal writing, and personal interview. 
• The online entrance will contain objective type questions from these topics: English, Logical Reasoning, Statistics, Mathematics, Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Population Studies, Demography, and Epidemiology.
• The qualified candidates of the online test are called for writing research proposal and participate in personal interview rounds.
• Candidates who perform well in all the 3 rounds are granted admission in the course.

Key Points:

• Eligible in-service candidates and foreign candidates (with M.Phil. Or Pre-Doctoral Coursework in Population Studies/Demography) with financial support from UGC /ICSSR/ Foreign funding are exempted from entrance test during the academic year.
• Candidates working in Government departments, research institutions, universities, medical colleges, and non-governmental organizations can also be sponsored for being considered for admission. However, selection of such candidates is done as per selection criteria.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must have passed a Master's degree in Population Studies/ Demography /Public Health 
• Also they must possess 5 years of work experience after Master’s degree.

Selection Criteria

• For selection, candidates need to send their research proposal to the institute.
• Selection is based on marks scored in the offline written test followed by a personal interview conducted by the college.
• Foreign students are exempted from personal interview. 

NOTE - Seats for UGC/CSIR-JRF or any other national level fellowship awardees shall be decided by the admission committee

Eligibility 

Candidates must have completed the Ph.D. degree in Population Studies or subjects related to Population/ Health/ Gender/ Development.

Selection Criteria

• For selection, candidates need to send the hard copy of the research proposal to the institute.
• Selection is based on the proposal presentation followed by the personal interview.
• Foreign students are exempted from personal interview.

The institute offers MA under Distance Mode in only 1 specialization i.e Population Studies.

Eligibility 

• Candidates must have passed Bachelor’s degree in any Social Science subject/ Health/ Maths/ Statistics or any similar degree with 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD categories)
• Due weightage will be given to candidates having a Master’s degree or work experience.

Selection Criteria

Selection Committee duly constituted by the Director of IIPS will make decisions regarding the selection of candidates for the course.

Key Points:

• Foreign candidates can apply if they secure financial support from a third party outside agency.
• There is no entrance exam for the foreign students. They can directly take admission if they fulfill the eligibility criteria.
• Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS/Female candidates will be considered as per the Government of India norms only.
