Calicut University: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 5 Reviews

Calicut University, the largest in Kerala, India, is globally recognized for its postgraduate programs and diverse departments, such as BSc Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Physics, Chemistry, Applied Physics, BA and MA in Malayalam and History, and BTTM. The registration process involves an online application and fees for registration and exams. Private tuition at a parallel college costs an additional Rs. 4500 per semester. Despite the university's large infrastructure, reports indicate it is subpar and financially unstable, affecting student union programs.

The student-to-faculty ratio is low, but faculty members are well-qualified. Admission is straightforward, but employment opportunities are limited, except for BTTM students who benefit from campus placements and internships. Some departments, like History and Politics, see more students needing supplementary exams. Tuition fees exceed 2000 INR per semester, with an admission fee of around 10,000 INR at KKTM Govt. College, Thrissur, which includes a 4,000 INR PTA fund and annual tuition fees of about 2,000 INR, varying by course.

Hostel accommodation costs 2,000 INR monthly. The college offers several scholarships, such as E-Grants, Higher Education Scholarships, Central Sector Scholarships, and Community Scholarships, which can reduce costs. Successful E-Grants applications can significantly lower expenses. Initial admission involves a 5,000 INR payment and a 540 INR first-semester exam fee. No registration fee is required. Overall, the college is affordable but is sometimes perceived as providing lower-quality education.

Calicut University: 2 Answered Questions

Can I apply for an improvement exam after completing 6 years of concerned degree courses from University of Calicut?

Prabhjot Dev
Hk KhanBachelor of technology in Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering, University of Calicut

Calicut University offers 2 types of exams to compensate for below minimum marks:

  1. Improvement Exam

  2. Supplementary Exam

If you are referring to an Improvement Exam to increase marks of an exam you have already given then the answer is no.

But if you are referring to the Supplementary Exam to pass an exam you haven’t obtained minimum marks in yet, the answer is yes. There might be some chances for the same.

You cannot apply for an improvement paper if you have obtained your provisional degree certificate. This is because once you receive the provisional certificate it means you have successfully passed the course and no further changes can be made.

Any more doubts can be further addressed to the University Exam Wing. Just make sure to keep important documents within reach.
