Ques. What are the specialization areas available in Ph.D. (Physiotherapy)?
Ans. The Ph.D. (Physiotherapy) program offers research opportunities in various specialization areas including musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, and community-based rehabilitation. Faculty members are specialized in these areas and can guide research projects based on student interests and institutional research priorities.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing Ph.D. in Physiotherapy?
Ans. Graduates can work as physiotherapists and researchers in hospital setups, rehabilitation centers, sports medicine clinics, and research institutions. Other opportunities include faculty positions in universities, research scholar positions, clinical research coordinator roles, and opportunities to establish private practice or research centers. Many graduates also pursue postdoctoral fellowships in international institutions.
Ques. Is the PhD MET mandatory for all applicants?
Ans. The PhD MET is mandatory for most applicants. However, it is exempted for GATE qualified candidates and applicants with UGC-NET qualification (Assistant professorship level) who possess valid score cards. These candidates can directly proceed to the interview stage.
Ques. What is the minimum duration of the Ph.D. program?
Ans. The minimum duration for the full-time Ph.D. program is 3.5 years (3 years 6 months) from the date of joining/registration. However, the maximum duration cannot exceed 6 years. Extensions beyond the minimum duration incur additional fees of INR 7,500 per semester.
Ques. Can I pursue Ph.D. while working as a Research Assistant or Junior Research Fellow?
Ans. During the Ph.D. course, you are not allowed to join another new project as RA/JRF/SRF unrelated to your Ph.D. research area. However, if you are selected as RA/JRF/SRF in a project related to your Ph.D. research area, you must apply to CDS for switchover approval through your guide, co-guide, HOD, and HOI.
Ques. What research facilities and resources are available for PhD students?
Ans. The Department of Physiotherapy has well-equipped clinical laboratories, research facilities, and access to state-of-the-art equipment for rehabilitation research. Students also have access to the university library with publications on latest developments in physiotherapy, biostatistics support for research, and collaboration opportunities with other departments and institutions for interdisciplinary research projects.
