MAHE Ph.D. (Pharmaceutics) FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between full-time PhD with Dr. TMA Pai Scholarship and self-financed PhD?
Ans. The main difference is financial support. Dr. TMA Pai Scholars receive monthly stipends (Rs. 25,000-35,000) plus research contingency grants, while self-financed candidates do not receive stipends but pay the same course fees. Both follow identical academic requirements and duration. Self-financed candidates may be more suitable for working professionals or those with external funding.
Ques. Is the PhD MET mandatory for all candidates?
Ans. No, candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (Assistant Professorship), GATE, or GPAT exams with cutoff marks applicable for the general category in 2023, 2024, or 2025 are exempted from the PhD MET. However, they still need to appear for the subject-level interview.
Ques. Can I pursue PhD part-time while working?
Ans. Yes, MAHE offers part-time PhD for working professionals with a minimum duration of 4.5 years. However, you must have at least 2 years of continuous full-time work experience and a co-guide from your organization. Part-time candidates are not eligible for Dr. TMA Pai Scholarships but follow the same admission process through PhD MET.
Ques. What happens if I cannot complete my PhD within the minimum 3.5 years?
Ans. The maximum duration allowed is 6 years from admission. If you need extension beyond the minimum period, it requires recommendation from your Doctoral Advisory Committee (DAC) and approval from the Centre for Doctoral Studies (CDS). You will be required to pay fees for the extended period until thesis submission.
Ques. Are there any leave policies for full-time PhD students?
Ans. Yes, full-time PhD students are eligible for 12 days of Casual Leave (CL) and 15 days of Special Casual Leave (SCL) per calendar year. SCL can only be used for academic enhancement programs like conferences, workshops, or seminars with prior approval. All leaves require permission from your guide and Head of Institution. Any leave beyond this eligibility extends your PhD duration.
Ques. What support is available for publishing research papers and presenting at conferences?
Ans. MAHE provides financial assistance up to Rs. 50,000 during your PhD program for presenting papers at national or international conferences. Additionally, your research contingency grant of Rs. 1,50,000 per year can be used for publication costs. All such expenses require prior approval from MAHE Manipal.
