In order to be eligible for B.Des admission at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) or Manipal University, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

Candidates must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 50% aggregate from any recognised board.

Candidates must have completed a 3-year diploma program from any state board or central board in relevant subjects with a minimum of 50% aggregate.

Minimum three subjects with A level and five passes in IGCSE/GCSE, including English.

IB diploma or certificate with a minimum of 24 points.

Manipal University (MAHE) B.Des Admission Criteria

Candidates seeking admission are required to appear in the SMEAT examination, conducted by the Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design, & Technology. Candidates who have cleared the UCEED examination will be given direct admission, such candidates are exempted from the written test. The final selection will be based on the merit list released by the university on the basis of SMEAT scores.

Visit the official website of the University and click on the ‘Admission’ option.
Register through valid email ID and password. A candidate first needs to register themselves on the following
Then, login using the credentials and fill-in the application with necessary details such as Name, DOB, Father’s Name, Permanent Address, Academic Qualifications, etc.
Next, scan and upload the required documents such as photograph, signature and marksheets with the dimensions mentioned along the dialog box.
Pay the application fee of INR 600 and INR 1400 for entrance exam form through net banking or card payment.
Finally click on the ‘submit’ option to submit the application form.
Take out the print of the application form for future reference.

Manipal University (MAHE) B.Des Course Details

The bachelor of design is a 4-year course with eight semesters. The course aims at focussing on innovation and sustainability.
In each semester, a candidate must attend lectures, practicals, and studio to earn credits. Every semester, there are six subjects, and from the third semester, a student can choose three of the electives from a group of subjects.
The students learn a range of art history, fashion illustration, design fashion studio, environmental sciences, communication skills, interior design, history of design, design fundamentals, furniture design, design journalism, etc.
The curriculum involves imparting knowledge through sessional tests, assignments, quizzes, seminars, workshops, etc.
In the sixth semester, a student must do a compulsory internship and hand in a study report. The course also helps students develop their portfolios, which allows them to get placements later.

some of the teaching faculty are brilliant and very knowledgeable. Great to speak to and learn from.
The environment is very ‘chill’ and faculty and students are treated the same.

Dislikes

management is not very efficient and often causes inconvenience to students especially when picking classes.
no availability of transportation after the shifting of campuses.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Srishti does not have a set curriculum. during the first year, students are assigned classes at random. it is called the foundation year and the goal of it is to teach students the basic skills required of a design student. from the second year onwards students are allowed to pick their own classes. curriculum of a certain class is not revealed to the student until they attend the class. there class list comes with breifs about the classes and that is what the choices are made based off of. There are two 'exams' in a year at the end of each semester.

Manipal and MAHE in a nutshell.

The campus life in manipal is one of the best in the country
All amenities are available on campus, whether it's for shopping, gym, swimming pool, library etc.

My college in particular has a lack of air conditioning which is a real problem in the heat of manipal.
MSAP is quite distant and separate from the rest of campus making transport time quite a problem.

Interior design offered quite a few academic aspects which can also be applied in other courses. The curriculum is quite tough as compared to other courses but it being so helps in the real world where the work we have to put in ks quite alot.

The campus is newly built and has a unique architectural quality
The classrooms have colorful furniture and corkboards which are easier for presentaion of hardcopy portfolios

Transportation within campus is difficult as the college is now located further from the hostel facilities
Food availability within campus is scarce as it is new and will take time to set up

I choose this course as it is an upcoming career option. The faculty has experience in the professional field and have had several years if experience prior to joining. The faculty:student ratio is 1:10 and most of the studio classes consist of at least 4 faculty for a class of 40. The design exams at the end of the every even term were long and tiring whereas the sessionals were usually wrapped up within a week.

I'm still in my first year so we don't have specializations this year. In the first year, there are 4 cycles in 2 semesters. We also have 2 workshops in which we all learn a new skill which can be crochet, wood carving, lino printing, etc. Each cycle our classes change so we get to work with different students which is great because we often get a lot of inspiration from seeing others' work. As for the faculty, it's made sure that we always get a facilitator (professor) we haven't gotten before. The class size is 16-25 so the facilitator makes sure that the course helps each student. For example, if there are readings we get them according to our interests which also goes with the course. The faculty members have very different teaching styles, some choose to keep chocolates and cookies and some choose harsh and yet constructive criticism to help you reach your full potential. They're all very approachable & always there when you need help, even the deans. We also have a 1-month interim.

my classes have not started as yet, but I assume that the course syllabus would be amazing. I have heard wonderful things about the faculty as well. The academic program in Srishti is unmatched as we get to try our hand at everything in the first year and then choose our specialisations.

Fee Structure And Facilities:

the fees is expensive since its a private college -1. its aprox 2.5 lakhs per year2. this cost doesnt include stay cost and food cost which wil be another 2 if you stay in a pg or rent an apartment with friends per year3. so a total of about 4-5 lakhs

Entrance Preview

The fees is paid for every semester on the expensive side only as NIFT is the best of its kind in Design Colleges in India. Also there is good expenditure to buy course material every semester. For 1 year it costs 5.3 lac and in total for 4 years it costs around 21 lacs, which is too expensive.

It is expensive. For an interior design course they make the students pay ? 1,80,000/-. There are no additional fees. The payment is only allowed thourough bank. They do not provide the students with needed supplies even after taking that much fees. The students had to buy stationeries worth ?10,000/- which was not informed earlier. No, the college does not provide transparency in the fee breakdown.

The fees increases thouroughout the 4 years. Although the average would be 5 lakhs per annum. It is a bit expensive, since accomodation isn't included. I have been paying using online payment method at the beginning of the academic year, for which there's an online receipt available.

To get lateral admission to the B.Tech course you must have a diploma degree in Engineering or a B.Sc degree with at least 45% marks in aggregate from a recognized institute. Along with that you must have taken Mathematics in Class XII. Since you have a B.Com degree, you are not eligible for admission.

Yes, you can pursue M.Des program from this Institute as the eligibility criteria mentioned by the institute for admission is a B.Des degree with 50% Marks. Also, you don't need to appear for any entrance exam.
