Econ Major at APU

Likes

Faculties are well motivated and will help you beyond class.
Availability of snacks both MRP items and Chinese dishes available
TALLEST University hostel in the world makes it really amazing.

Dislikes

Curriculum design can be much better at end sem.
Several kids dominating existing clubs in college
Food at mess can be much much much better.

Admission:

I applied for this college because I wanted to be out of my home which is in Delhi. Also because this college more than academics pays attention to overall development of students and understanding of India.

Dislikes

The placement focus is strong in education and development sectors but lacks broader opportunities in corporate or other diverse field
While functional, the campus infrastructure could benefit from more recreational and social spaces to enhance the overall student experience
The university's alumni network network is developing but could be more robust in offering mentorship and connections for career growth across varied sectors

Why Azim Premji University?

Likes

The quality of teaching for my course - BA Economics (Hons) is exceptional. The professors give quality time with each student to ensure concepts are clear and go beyond the surface level teaching of all concepts.
Every student gets their own mentor, who is a professor within the University who will help you guide yourself through everything, ranging from academic difficulties to personal grievances. There are regular sessions scheduled with these mentors..
There is plenty of freedom in the university. Unlike other university's there is no strict dress code or unreasonable rules for the students to follow. The campus allows each indivitual to be true to themselves.

Dislikes

The campus is very far from the city, making it difficult to have any sort of weekend get aways to the city tiresome. There are very few places around the campus that will let you experience city life.
The university does not encourage competitive spirit festivals like youth festivals apart from sports. Hence narrowing down the avenues where students can get certificates for extra curriculars to add on to your CVs
Academic rigor can get too overwhelming sometimes and one may not get time to study for other parallel exams for masters like GMAT, CAT, GRE etc. Finding time for extra curriculars may also get difficult.

Admission:

I applied to other universities like KREA, and Delhi University. I got confirmed admission from KREA University and partial from DU. The main reasons for choosing Azim Premji University over KREA and DU, was 1. The faculty present in the university for economics was good. 2. KREA did not offer me the kind of concepts I was interested to study and did not seem to have the same approach in teaching methodlogy. 3. APU had an inclusive, inter-disciplinary approach that DU and KREA could not offer 4. I am in the Bangalore campus, which also attracted me to the university. I applied to Ashoka University as well and got rejected, the main reason was I messed up my interview as it was my first ever interview and I got really stressed and blanked out. Their admission required me to write a statement of purpose and few essays, which I got through. The admission process of APU is through an entrance test conducted by the university itself. It also asks for essays and statement of purpose. Having a good score at the entrance test and good and unbiased essays, and a good grasp of my hifh school concepts clearly especially in the subject I wanted to pursure helped me get in. Further the admission commitee gives great importance to any kind of impact that you were able to make for people around you through volunteering, leadership etc.

APU College Life

Likes

The courses are well-structured, with updated syllabi and very interesting readings
The faculty is really helpful and very resourceful
The campus is big, with a lot of facilities and a vibrant student life

Dislikes

There is not enough student representation in college administration matters
Hand-written exams can be really hectic and can lead to cramming

Admission:

The admission process includes an entrance exam and an exhaustive interview process. The interview mostly discusses the student's academic and work experiences and qualifications. Also, knowing how the student's interests align with development sector.

Azim premji university through my lens

Likes

The faculty here is amazing and up to the mark. The infrastructure and hostel building is new.

Dislikes

Too many luxuries, I feel are provided. Campus is in an isolated place.

Admission:

First round was written exam. It was quite easy. Essay writing was important. Second round was personal interview. The panelists made me very comfortable and the questions asked were also realted to the previous answers. You should hahe clarity on why are you opting for a particular course.

Amazing life at APU

Likes

The first thing I liked that its an very inclusive college and you feel equal and they don't judge on from where you come from
And obviously the office hours which is a great help for your learning and development
And all of things here are student oriented so you get to learn leadership skills

Dislikes

Admission:

So you have to give a very easy and smooth entrance test and based on that they will shortlist students for the interview. In interview they want to know your interest and motivation and also what you have learned and what can you learn more

Good college for social sciences if students are self awareness.

Likes

APU campus has Democracy in the campus. Students from all caste class gender have represention.
Azim premji University keeps organising talks which are highly relevant and from all areas of interest.
Azim Premji University offers financial support to students coming from weaker section.

Dislikes

Azim Premji University new campus is a concrete jungle.
The buildings could have been less grey and less concrete.
There are very few college fest that too mostly boring.

Admission:

Eligibility- you have to have Bachelor's completed or you should be a final year student. Application for Masters courses from Azim Premji University form is easily available on the website. The announcement is done from all possible platforms.

Use Education for Social Change, A great campus life at Azim Premji University

Well cooperated behavior among members of university.
Active and supportive placement cell and they prepare us for placement exams also.

Admission:

For applying to B.Sc. B.Ed. mathematics, applicants have to give the Azim Premji University entrance exam which happens two times for a batch. One is the early round, for this round applications start in October, the exam in December, and the Interview in January. Another is the regular round, for this round applications start in January, the exam in April, and the Interview in May. The application fee is 500 rupees. For more details, you can visit the Azim Premji university website. Only state reservation is allowed for Karnataka students which is 25%. The entrance exam is designed in such a way that it gives opportunity to students of all backgrounds because it asks only basic maths, RCs, and descriptive questions.

Life at APU; diverse and inclusive

Admission:

The admission process proceeds in two steps. Early admission happens before the end of an academic year and the other one happens by the end of the same. We have a test initially, which assesses the basic language and numerical skills along with an aptitude test about the major we apply for. Once shortlisted, an interview s also expected.
