  • AIIMS Delhi offers admission exclusively through national-level entrance exams like MBBS admission is through NEET UG, and postgraduate admission is through INI CET. This keeps the process fair and based only on merit.

  • The fee at AIIMS is very affordable compared to other medical colleges. The first-year MBBS fee is just INR 1,628, which makes world-class medical education accessible to most students.

  • AIIMS Delhi offers various programs apart from medicine. The institute offers courses in nursing, biotechnology, paramedical, and allied health sciences. Each course has its own entrance exam to make sure students are well selected.

  • The institute conducts its own exams for courses like B.Sc Nursing, M.Sc Nursing, and other paramedical programs. This shows its focus on quality and independence.

  • For higher studies like DM and M.Ch, AIIMS has a clear counseling system. It has three rounds of seat allocation with strict penalties for seat abandonment.

  • The reservation policy at AIIMS Delhi is strictly followed as per the Government of India norms. Category-wise cutoffs are published every year, which makes the process fair and inclusive.

  • AIIMS Delhi also runs Ph.D. programs in more than 30 fields. It conducts its own entrance exam with clear rules and deadlines to select research students.

  • For super specialty and postgraduate admissions, AIIMS uses its own exams INI SS and INI CET. These are only for Institutes of National Importance, which makes AIIMS Delhi different from colleges that use NEET PG.

  • To apply, students must meet strict eligibility conditions. These include good academic records, finishing internships, and scoring well in the entrance exam. This ensures that only the most capable and serious students are admitted.

Candidates applying for admission to AIIMS Delhi must appear for the respective entrance exam, followed by the counselling process. AIIMS Delhi: 10 Answered Questions

Why do AIIMS Delhi students get a very short percentage in an MBBS even though they are intelligent?

Debdeep Majumder
Shree Guptastudies at MBBS Student at AIIMS Bhopal (2020)

AIIMS Delhi is one of the most prestigious medical schools in India and is highly coveted among medical students. It boasts an extremely rigorous curriculum and high brand value. However, only a small batch of applicants is able to pass the MBBS exam. This is because the program is highly competitive and even the most genius minds sometimes fail to clear the exam.

Intelligence alone cannot determine your success in medical school. As a medical student, you will need hard work, dedication, and also critical for success. The professor itself is very challenging and requires a great deal of dedication, commitment, and a strong desire to help others.

What does one need to sacrifice to get into AIIMS Delhi?

Raghav MalpaniMBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences

If you are consistent, studying 4-6 hours daily can help you get into AIIMS Delhi. Studying 24*7 and sacrificing everything you like other than academics, isn’t necessary. You may have to procrastinate some activities like playing games or watching web series. But you can still keep 1-2 hours for doing things that you like, other than academics.

Try to stay consistent while preparing and enjoy other things too. This way studying won’t get boring.

Which is better for an MS in General Surgery: AIIMS, JIPMER or PGI?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

Surgery can’t be read and understood. Also, no matter the number of simulations you run through, practicing on a human body is very different.

Now, with their limited number of beds, these institutions perform complex surgeries through protocol defining procedures. As a resident at these, you won’t perform many surgeries. Also, you’ll have a limited exposure to trivial diseases. On the flip side, you’ll witness some of the best surgeons at work, and access top notch technology. To master surgery, you’ll have to become an SR at these institutions.

But at a decent government college hospital, the volume of patients is very high. As a result, you’ll be pushed into the OT. So you’ll get good practice, under proper supervision. However, at these colleges, protocols take a back seat. You’ll have to compromise with low funding as a resident at these institutions.

I would personally recommend going for a decent government college. But you should choose according to your own preferences.

Which is currently the best medical college after AIIMS Delhi and CMC Vellore?

Namrata Das
Sanjana KapoorLives in New Delhi

The criteria for the best college may vary from person to person depending on your hometown, your goals, and your interests. Rankings alone cannot define a college as best or worst. Rankings-wise, AIIMS Delhi is considered to be the best medical college in India. But logically speaking it isn’t a very good choice for a South Indian who would have to travel away from their homeland and work again as hard to secure a PG seat. For them, JIPMER is a much better choice with an internal PG quota advantage and proximity to home.

Moreover, if you are a North Indian, CMC Vellore isn’t a very good choice either as you will have to travel away from home, learn a new language, and establish bonds. So for them, MAMC or VMMC is a better option. So the best college actually depends on what you want to do after college. For instance, AIIMS Delhi is a great choice if you want to pursue the USMLE route. It will provide excellent exposure and opportunities to its students.

In my opinion, the best options after AIIMS and CMC Vellore are JIPMER>MAMC>Seth GS, Mumbai>AFMC. These colleges are considered among the top 5 in the country after AIIMS and CMC Vellore.

During the first 6 months of your MD, your working hours will be from 7am to 9pm for most days. Working hours may change depending on the number of patients admitted. Your working hours will decrease for the next 6 months.

During the second year, you’ll work from 8am to 6pm. You’ll have to work for two hours extra in case of an admission under you. In the final year, you’ll work from 8am to 5pm. After that you’ll be relieved from the ward, only OP.

This is the schedule for MD Dermatology students at JIPMER.

How should a dropper smartly study for the next 6 months to crack the AIIMS/JIPMER/NEET?

Kushal Chaudhuri,MBBS from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry (2018)

One of my friends was a dropper and managed to crack AIIMS. When asked about his strategy, he told everyone that he would perform the self-introspection exercise. In this, he would take his NCERTs and open the index.

Point out every chapter and rate your knowledge out of 5 in each topic. Rate yourself honestly to determine your strengths and weaknesses. Perform the same exercise for every subject and you will realize how much you lagged behind. This will also instill in you a desire to study hard and overcome your weak points. Study at least one chapter you are weak at thoroughly every week. Soon those chapters will become your favourite.

So, self-analysis is the key!

Which college should I choose, peripheral AIIMS or KGMU?

Sagar Dikshitlives in Lucknow

One of my cousins got selected in both AIIMS Gorakhpur and KGMU. However, he chose KGMU because of the following reasons

  • KGMU is a state college.
  • It is one of the oldest colleges and has a legacy of more than 100 years.
  • It has a huge patient inflow
  • It’s most famous for its beautiful Infrastructure and lush green campus.
  • It’s the capital of UP so there are many location advantages too.

However, the only drawback is that you will have to serve the bond for 2 years.

AIIMS Gorakhpur on the other hand is a newly established institute so it will take time to grow.
