AIIMS M.Sc Biophysics course is a 2-year master's level course. Here are some relevant details about it.

The course is not everyone’s cup of tea and is quite demanding. It’s best to take the course if you are sincerely passionate about it and are ready to commute to hard work and dedication and a lot of hard work.
Students of this course only have 2 classes daily from Monday to Friday and all the remaining time has to be spent in the lab working on your masters' project.
While other universities only give you a year to do research work, AIIMS gives you 2 years to explore, learn lab skills and work on your thesis.
The most important step is to choose a good guide and lab. Go for the one that offers the maximum opportunity. This is your learning stage and you will have to pay attention to minute details, so it’s important to choose a good lab.
Those who are on the lookout for a high paying job after Masters from Biophysics will be disappointed as it’s completely a research-based field.

AIIMS Delhi MBBS course structure comprises 3 Profs instead of like other medical colleges.

First Professional

The First Professional lasts for one year and consists of the following subjects; Physiology Anatomy and Biochemistry
There are internal assessments that carry 50% weightage - 2 mid-semester exams in October and March, one end-semester exam in December
The remaining 50% weightage is given to the first professional exam in July.
Unlike other colleges, there are no sent-ups in AIIMS Delhi.

Second Professional

The second Professional spans over 1.5 years and consists of the following subjects; Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, and Forensic Medicine.
There are 2 mid-semester exams; October of the 3rd Sem and March of the 4th Semester.

End-semester exams are held in December and May.

Pre Proffs take place in November and professional exams in December.

Clinical postings in various departments such as Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obs Gynae, CCM, Psychiatry, etc

Third Professor

After 2 hectic professionals, the third professional is relatively lighter
The 6th-semester witnesses clinical postings and lectures
The 7th Sem has no lectures and there are only clinical postings from 9–1 in various departments such as Orthopedics, ENT, Dermatology, etc.
No exams are there and only viva-based posting assessments are held.
The lectures end after June and students are given a preparatory leave for 3 months till October.
The Preproffs carry 25% weightage, the internal assessments from the beginning of the 3rd Sem till the 8th carry 25 % weightage while Proffs taking place in December carry 50% - weightage.

I know a person who is pursuing Neurosurgery and he does not feel it is not necessary to go through 3 years of MS general surgery before taking up neurosurgery. As a 6-year student, he was supposed to rotate through 10 months of general surgery.

He did not find general surgical skills that he acquired during the rotation, of much use in neurosurgery, other than the very basic knot tying and suturing skills, which can also be acquired through dedicated lab practice.

The other techniques followed in neurosurgery are significantly different from those followed in general surgery. The extensive use of the surgical microscope and bipolar coagulation for hemostasis distinguishes this surgical discipline from general surgery.

Today, neurosurgeons typically use access surgeons (thoracic surgeons or urologists) if they want to perform any unconventional approaches to the spine, which is much safer for the patient.

A lot of post-MS students don’t find much difference in incompetence or spectrum of surgeries and they are comfortable when compared with those having gone through six years of courses.

Globally, there is a trend towards running integrated courses only. Also, in India, pursuing a 6 years’ course after MBBS means you will have one less entrance examination to worry about.
