GMIT BE {Lateral} Computer Science & Engineering: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. The total course fee for the BE (Lateral) CSE programme at GM University is INR 4,80,000 for the three-year lateral entry programme, at INR 1,60,000 per year payable in two instalments each year. Examination fees and university charges are payable additionally as per norms. Hostel accommodation is optional and charged separately. Government scholarships including NSP and Karnataka state schemes are available to eligible students to support the cost of higher education.

Ans. Candidates must hold a three-year diploma in the relevant engineering branch from a Board of Technical Examinations or equivalent, with a minimum of 45 percent aggregate marks (40 percent for SC/ST/Category-1 Karnataka candidates). Alternatively, candidates with a B.Sc degree with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics may also be eligible. Admission is into the second year (third semester) of the four-year BE programme.

Ans. Admission is through the Karnataka Lateral Entry (KLEAT) process conducted by KEA, or directly through the university’s admission portal at gmu.ac.in. Candidates with a qualifying diploma score register with KEA and participate in the lateral entry seat allotment. After allotment, document verification is completed and the prescribed fee is paid to confirm the seat. Management quota lateral entry seats are also available through the university.

Ans. The BE (Lateral) CSE programme is a three-year full-time programme covering six semesters (semesters 3 to 8 of the standard BE programme). Diploma holders admitted laterally join from the second year and complete the same curriculum as direct-entry students from the third semester onward, including advanced theory, laboratory sessions, a project in the final year, and the university’s semester examination system, earning the same BE degree.

Graduates of the BE (Lateral) CSE earn the same BE degree as direct-entry students and can pursue careers as software engineers, system analysts, database administrators, network engineers, software developers, and IT support engineers across the IT services, software product companies, banking technology, e-commerce, and government IT departments. The lateral entry route offers diploma holders a cost-effective and time-efficient path to a full bachelor’s degree in engineering. Graduates may also pursue higher studies such as M.Tech or MBA, appear for government engineering services examinations, or take up postgraduate diploma programmes in relevant engineering specialisations.
