Why study this course with us?

  • We strive to provide you with a welcoming, open and supportive environment for you to undertake your study. As the BA Combined degree is free from professional regulations, you are able to have much greater freedom in the modules you study in you second and third years. It may therefore be possible to tailor your studies to compliment your other subject.
  • Efforts are made to enhance your experience by developing and using links with the local legal professions. We are assisted in this to a certain extent, as Chester has been a legal centre since the Middle Ages.
  • The University of Chester is an exciting place to study Law and History Ð a Roman and medieval town with a key role in the Civil War that remains the capital of Cheshire.
  • At Chester, the study of history ranges from the fall of Rome to Cold War America. You can explore turning points in history, the Vikings, the Crusades, the Consumer Revolution, the English Civil War, the Holocaust, and minorities and migration in the 19th and 20th centuries.
  • The Department currently works with the Grosvenor Museum in Chester, and currently has use of the Cheshire Record Office and the Cheshire Military Museum archives.

Job prospects

History graduates from Chester have pursued a wide range of careers reflecting the excellent transferable skills offered by a History degree, including - amongst many others - careers in teaching, law, the civil service, publishing, business, IT, and research.
