University of Sussex Application Fee
Candidates applying for masters courses using the direct application portal do not have to pay any application fee. The University of Sussex has no application fees for the masters courses. Students applying to Sussex for undergraduate courses using UCAS have to pay an application fee of GBP 28.95 (INR 3,470). This fee is applicable for up to 5 course or university choices. Students can apply to 5 universities or 5 courses at the same university by paying this application fee.
University of Sussex Deposit Fee for International Students
Self-funded international students who have accepted an Unconditional Offer for a taught Master’s course at the University of Sussex and require a UK Student visa must pay a £5,000 (INR 6.06 lakh) tuition fee deposit.
The deposit is paid after meeting all academic and English conditions and is required for the university to issue the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) for the visa application. The £5,000 is shown on the CAS as fees paid and is deducted from the total tuition fee when you join the university.
In addition to the deposit, students entering in the September intake must pay 50% of the remaining tuition fee at registration. The remaining amount is due in January. Students should budget for other costs such as pre-sessional courses, study materials, travel, and living expenses.
University of Sussex Accommodation Cost
The University of Sussex is based in Falmer, just outside Brighton, offering strong transport connectivity for students. The campus is around one hour from Central London by train and approximately 30 minutes from Gatwick Airport, making travel convenient for international students.

- The campus is beautiful and big, everything is spaced out really well
- There is Housing on campus hence making it very easy to go for classes
- The facilities in college are amazing, with Multiple food outlets and study spaces, additionally the lectures theatres are nice and big

- Difficult to locate places sometimes since they cannot found be on google maps sometimes
- Even though there is support for everything, responses can be slow sometimes
- They do not offer on campus placement opportunities
Course Curriculum
- My course is more on the theoretical side, with practicals for modules like statistics. however there are workshops held regularly to go over the coursework.
- Positive: Clear, concise and well presented, all in the form of presentations; most of the exam questions are application-based, therefore no rote learning is supported. there are also some exams which are online, some offline and some have a deadline of 24-48 hours. exams also include a mix of essays and question-based exams, which is really good for understanding the lecture content and applying your knowledge and understanding.
- Negative: I wouldn’t say there are any negative aspects as such, other than maybe that assessments can load up sometimes and they may be hectic to finish up by the due deadline, unless you work out your schedule to complete them very well.
- Usually 3 classes a day, most of them for 1 hour spaced out between 9am and 6pm. Wednesdays or fridays are usually off depending on what year you are in.
- 100 students in a class typically, 400 students in the entire batch of psychology.
- Indian students: 50-70
Fees
- Fees for one year: 23,150 pounds total for 3 years: 69,450 pounds
- Hostel or living – 1 year cost: 12,000 pounds; 3 years: 36,000 pounds
- Living cost – 300-500 pounds per month
- Fees are split semester-wise, with 3 breakdowns in september, january, march. there is also an option to pay in full if you prefer that.
- My monthly expenses come up to around 350 pounds; the bus costs 3 pounds one way to go anywhere unless you get a bus pass for 3 months (which in my opinion is a very smart option if you travel frequently). Food/groceries can cost 20-30 pounds on average for a bimonthly shop. outings including restaurants and clubbing, can cost 150 pounds per month if you go out frequently. The current rent is 950 pounds per month because it is student accommodation. However, cheaper options are available.

- Supportive Faculty: Professors were approchable, knowledgeble, and actively supported career develpment.
Dislikes
- Limited Career Events for International Students: Some job fairs and networking sessions were more UK- centric.
- Accommodation Costs: Housing near campus was relatively expensive.
- Shorter Term Structure: Fast-paced modules left limited for depper exploration of topics.
- The process of finding Accommodation - I found my accommodation mainly through online platforms like UniHomes and Rightmove, which made the search easier. Challenges Included high demand and limited options close to campus. I recommend starting early, visiting properties if possible, and connecting with current students for reliable advice.
Likes
- Faculty : Student ratio is healthy
- For masters students, there are minimal number of classes which gives them the opportunity to do/learn many other things
- For PhD students, there is a high level of independence to do their own research or work around their own course structure
Dislikes
- For PG Taught courses, Limited contact hours is both a blessing and a curse. For students who are not used to self-learning (which is most Indian students), it's a huge curse as most of the learning is expected to be through your own research
- For PhD-level courses, the independence comes at a heavy cost which takes a while for students to realize that ownership of their course
- There are far fewer "induction" programs that will help students (particularly international students) get fully integrated into the university. This is less of an administration problem as they keep trying more of a cultural problem on a campus with such diverse set of students. It's almost impossible to feel organised.
Course Curriculum
- The difficulty level of my course curriculum is very, very high. It's a combination of more theoretical and practical. Additionally, there is a lot of academic/scientific writing involved. You're expected to make frequent presentations.
- Positive aspects of my course: Lots of independence, no interference of anybody else other than you and your supervisor, flexibility
- Negative aspects of my course : Feels less structured. When you're struck, finding help isn't always easy. It can have a huge toll on you mentally.
- PhD students do not have to attend any classes. Although we can audit any course we like in the uni. Most professors are welcoming. While there are not strict timings, you're expected to work at least 9-6 for 5 days a week. In practice students work an average of 55 hours every week.
- I am not sure if there are any other Indian students in my course in my department. Even in other departments, it's a much smaller number.
Fees
- Usually the tuition fees for taught courses are about £25000 for a 1-year course. Accommodation fees vary from year to year and depending on the accommodation type as well. My accommodation on campus cost me an average of £10000 per year. Brighton is one of the most expensive cities after london. Fees are usually expected in 2-3 instalments.
- Other expenses: Groceries would cost me around £200-400 per month. Bus and transport: £80-100 per month. Takeaways: 50-100, because I would rarely eat outside.
Likes
- Connecting with people all over the world helps in developing skills of speaking, managing things, best for future growth.
- Staff, the campus, and all knoweledge and support they give.
- Campus of the university is the best part, you can really work from anywhere you will feel always energised to work and keep reaching your goal. Environment really affects the mind.
Dislikes
- Duration should be increased atleast for 1 years 5 months instead of 1 year
- There are multiple platforms to find the housing accommodations online. I had received one through a friend of mine but there are plenty of websites where you can see the post on the university webpage there is a separate page for accommodation where people keep posting the accomodation, then whatsapp group; you can connect with people from the same course in whatsapp ask them for accommodation.

- This is was my first time pursuing masters abroad, So I don't know whats the case with other unis, but at this uni its mostly self study rather than teaching, Overall I just felt like getting certified for the previous knowledge I had .I did learn new things as well which will be helpful in my career

An entire module is based on talking and reflecting to people. We were also provided with mentors both academic as well as professional ones to help us better understand and adapt to the country and the industry. Scoring is good too and the relevance is mostly ion critical thinking. There are no academic exams but just assessments and portfolios reflecting to the work one would do in the industry.

Course Curriculum
Really interesting and challenging, allowing me to learn skills that employers look for, such as ground modeling and Microsoft Excel statistical analysis skills. These can be transferred to any kind of job and so I really enjoy my course. Very contemporary.
Fees
The fees were 9000 (UK Limit) a year in 2016 before being bumped up to 9250 (UK Limit) for 2017 and 2018. This was borrowed from the Student Finance England department and paid upfront by them, for students to repay upon earning 25000 in their first job. Maintenance loans were also given out, depending on the income of your parents.
Course Curriculum
It's been difficult but easier than I first anticipated. I enjoy the material usually. Even though I expected a lot of maths I did not expect it to be this difficult. There are good option modules for year 3, which is another reason i chose this university.
Fees
The fee structure is 9250 a year and I am currently on a 3-year course. I opt for a placement that will cost an additional 2000.
