Admission Status: Open. The UCAS 2027 cycle opened 1 September 2026 for University of the Arts London’s primary September 2027 undergraduate intake, with equal-consideration applications closing 13 January 2027 at 11:30 PM IST. UCAS charges £34.50 (around ₹4,461) for up to five choices. UAL postgraduate rounds for September 2027 entry open in early December 2026 with no separate UAL application fee, and the January 2027 postgraduate scholarship-linked deadline is 30 October 2026.

University of the Arts London admissions run on a two-track model: undergraduate applications go through UCAS while master’s applicants apply directly to UAL. Indian applicants need Class XII at 65 percent or above for UG entry, and a Bachelor’s degree at 60 percent (a UK 2:1) with IELTS 6.5 for most master’s programs.

  • Next live deadline: 13 January 2027 UCAS equal-consideration close for September 2027 UG entry into the primary September intake
  • Base tuition and fees: £30,890 (₹39.94 Lakhs) per year plus UCAS application fee £34.50 (₹4,461); no separate UAL PG application fee
  • Eligibility floor: UG Class XII 65 percent with portfolio and IELTS 6.0; PG Bachelor’s 60 percent with IELTS 6.5
  • Acceptance rate: estimated at 40 to 50 percent institution-wide, UAL does not publish an official figure

Popular picks for Indian students include MA Fashion at London College of Fashion, MA Graphic Communication Design at London College of Communication, and BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. Indian applicants rate University of the Arts London highly for its portfolio-first admissions culture and access to London’s creative industry.

University of the Arts London Application Deadlines for Indian Students

UAL runs two admissions cycles for Indian applicants. Undergraduate applications route through UCAS (institution code U65) and postgraduate applications go through the UAL applicant portal. Rounds and dates below are per the official UAL postgraduate apply page and the UCAS 2027 cycle toolkit.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use GBP 1 = ₹129.30, the live rate on 11 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

UAL’s primary intake for Indian students is September (Autumn) — most programs open here.

UAL’s 2026-27 PG rounds closed on 2 December 2025 and 18 March 2026. For September 2027 entry, watch the same page in early December 2026 — that is when Round 1 dates for the new cycle publish. PhD applicants who missed the 31 August 2026 January-start deadline should target September 2027 entry now.

Insider note: Applying in Round 1 lifts your odds meaningfully at fashion, illustration, and fine-art programs where portfolio slots fill early. Round 2 tends to skew towards waitlists for the most contested courses.

University of the Arts London Eligibility for Indian Applicants

UAL sets institution-wide academic and English floors, with individual courses raising the bar. Indian qualifications map directly onto UAL’s accepted credentials for both UG and PG entry.

  • UG general entry: Class XII (CBSE, ICSE, State Board, or IB) at 65 percent or higher
  • UG portfolio: a digital creative portfolio uploaded via PebblePad when invited
  • PG general entry: Bachelor’s at 60 percent or above, matching a UK 2:1
  • PG alternate route: substantial creative practice or industry experience where academic marks fall short
  • PhD: upper second-class Bachelor’s, with a Master’s strongly preferred

UAL accepts the IELTS One Skill Retake certificate provided all component scores meet the course minimum. Cambridge C1/C2 Advanced is also accepted at 169 overall (162 per skill) at IELTS 6.0 equivalence.

IELTS waivers for Indian applicants: UAL grants English-test exemptions only to nationals of UKVI-designated majority-English-speaking countries, holders of a UK undergraduate degree taught in English, and applicants with UK GCSE / A-Level English. Indian medium-of-instruction letters from CBSE, ICSE, or State Board schools do not qualify for a waiver — you will need to submit an IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE score valid on your course start date.

University of the Arts London PG Programs for Indian Students

University of the Arts London UG Programs for Indians

Indian students apply to UAL undergraduate courses through UCAS with institution code U65. Base UG tuition sits at £30,890 (₹39.94 Lakhs) per year for 2026-27. Class XII at 65 percent or above is the general academic floor, and every practice-based BA needs a digital portfolio uploaded via PebblePad.

UAL runs an International Foundation route for students who do not yet meet direct UG entry. Foundation applicants receive linked progression to a named BA on successful completion, and the £7,000 (₹9.05 Lakhs) international Foundation scholarship (16 awards) supports the strongest candidates.

Planning note: UCAS caps you at five choices per £34.50 (₹4,461) fee. If UAL is your top choice, use two slots on UAL colleges (e.g. CSM plus LCC) to hedge across schools without paying extra.

University of the Arts London PhD Programs and Funding

UAL doctoral routes cover full-time and part-time PhD (four and eight years respectively) and MPhil (three and six years). International visa-holding candidates must study full-time. Overseas tuition for 2026-27 is £27,100 (₹35.04 Lakhs) per year, with writing-up status at £1,125 (₹1.45 Lakhs).

UAL PhD Deadlines for Indian Applicants

  • January 2027 entry: deadline was 31 August 2026 (Closed) — target September 2027 next
  • September 2027 entry: LCDS reviews by 30 April 2027; other colleges take applications on a rolling basis
  • January 2028 entry: deadline expected 31 August 2027, based on the published pattern

UAL PhD Funding Routes

UAL’s 2027-28 studentships are tentative to open in Spring 2027. Two central routes cover fees and stipend, with international applicants topping up the Home-Overseas fee gap:

  • AHRC Landscape Awards: UK Home fees plus UKRI stipend of around £20,780 (₹26.87 Lakhs) per year for 3.5 years
  • UAL Studentship Awards: UK Home fees plus UKRI stipend for three years, similar top-up model

External funding options for Indian doctoral applicants include Commonwealth PhD Scholarships and Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation grants. See the full funding options for Indian students for a consolidated view.

University of the Arts London Application Process

The undergraduate and postgraduate journeys differ in platform, timing, and fee treatment. Undergraduate applicants use UCAS; postgraduate applicants apply straight to UAL. Portfolio work uploads through PebblePad in both cases.

UG Application Steps via UCAS

  1. Create a UCAS account and open the 2027 undergraduate cycle (open since 1 September 2026) at ucas.com
  2. Add UAL courses using institution code U65 and pay the UCAS application fee of £34.50 (₹4,461), which covers up to five choices
  3. Submit your personal statement and one academic reference by 13 January 2027 for equal consideration
  4. Upload the digital portfolio via PebblePad after UAL invites you
  5. Attend an online interview or workshop task if the course requires it
  6. Accept the offer, request the CAS letter, and begin the UK Student visa process

PG Application Steps via UAL Portal

  1. Pick a course on arts.ac.uk and open the application on the UAL applicant portal (no application fee)
  2. Complete the personal statement (350 words per prompt) and upload transcripts, CV, and references
  3. Submit the digital portfolio via PebblePad when prompted
  4. Fill in the Immigration History Form (mandatory for all non-UK nationals)
  5. Wait for a Round 1 or Round 2 decision, then respond within the offer window
  6. Request the CAS and start visa preparations for the September or January intake

University of the Arts London Admission Decisions Timeline

UAL issues three offer types: unconditional (all conditions met), conditional (subject to final grades, English score, or portfolio review), and reserve-list holds when a course is oversubscribed. PG decision windows are anchored to the round you apply in.

  • PG Round 1 decisions: no later than 20 March following a Round 1 application
  • PG Round 2 decisions: no later than 19 June following a Round 2 application
  • UG UCAS decisions: generally issued by 15 May 2027 for equal-consideration applications
  • PhD decisions: two to three months from submission, per the UAL research office
  • Deferral policy: holders of an offer can request a one-year deferral in writing, subject to course-team approval

Reality check: Conditional offers at CSM and LCF often ask for a stronger portfolio revision or an English score raise before enrolment. Treat the offer as a working brief, not a finish line.

University of the Arts London Documents Required for Admissions

The document set is the same across most UAL courses, with portfolio and additional forms adding on for practice-based and international applicants. Prepare certified English translations for any Hindi or regional-language transcripts.

  • Passport bio-data page valid at least six months beyond course end
  • Class XII / Bachelor’s transcripts and completion certificate (certified English translations if needed)
  • Personal Statement of 350 to 500 words answering UAL’s set prompts
  • One to two references (academic for UG and taught PG; academic plus research for PhD)
  • Digital portfolio uploaded on PebblePad for practice-based courses
  • CV covering education, projects, exhibitions, and any industry work
  • English test score report (IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE, per Section 2)
  • Immigration History Form for all non-UK nationals, including Indian applicants
  • Financial evidence for the CAS and Student visa (28-day maintained bank statement)
  • Passport-size photographs in UK standard format

University of the Arts London Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

UAL does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Based on portfolio-driven admissions patterns across its six colleges, the acceptance rate is estimated at 40 to 50 percent at the university level, with headline programs at CSM and LCF running tighter — commonly in the 15 to 30 percent range.

How Selective Are UAL’s Fashion and Design Programs?

MA Fashion at LCF and MA Industrial Design at CSM sit at the sharp end of the funnel. Portfolio quality, sketchbook depth, and evidence of critical thinking through the personal statement move applicants forward much more than raw academic marks. Compare selectivity trends against the QS Art and Design ranking band to gauge peer competition.

What Tips a UAL Decision for Indian Applicants?

Three signals move the needle: a portfolio that shows research process (not just finished work), a personal statement that names UAL tutors or studios you want to work with, and a considered reference from a working professional or design school faculty. Grades matter, but a Class XII at 65 percent with a striking portfolio outranks a 90 percent transcript with a generic body of work.

Insider note: Interviews at CSM and LCF often turn on how well you talk about your own work under pressure. Record yourself narrating three portfolio pieces and edit ruthlessly — that is the exact skill the panel wants to see.

UK Student Visa for University of the Arts London Applicants

Indian students admitted to UAL apply for the UK Student visa (formerly Tier 4) once the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is issued. The visa allows study up to five years and grants 20 hours of term-time work. Apply from India within six months of your course start date.

The core steps: accept the UAL offer and pay any tuition deposit, receive the CAS reference, complete the online Student visa application on gov.uk, pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) of £776 (₹1,00,335) per year, pay the visa fee of £524 (₹67,753), book biometrics at VFS Global in India, and attend a credibility interview if scheduled. Show maintenance funds of £1,483 (₹1.92 Lakhs) per month for London for up to nine months, held in a personal or parental account for 28 consecutive days.

2026 update: IHS was raised from £470 to £776 per year in early 2024 and remains at that level for 2026-27 visa applications. Budget the full amount up front — it is collected in one payment during the online application.

Tips and Checklist for University of the Arts London Admissions

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at UAL and reflect what tutors and admissions teams flag most often.

  • Book IELTS 10 to 12 weeks before your target round — score-report delivery takes 13 days
  • Draft the personal statement across all three UAL prompts early — each prompt caps at 350 words
  • Line up your portfolio review with a UAL rep in India six months before submission
  • Start UCAS registration in mid-September 2026 to lock in your five UG choices
  • Apply in PG Round 1 (early December) if you are targeting fashion, illustration, or fine art
  • Get transcripts attested eight weeks before deadline — Indian board offices can be slow in December and March
  • Confirm CAS as soon as the offer is unconditional — visa windows shrink fast between June and August
  • Read one UAL alumnus interview per college before the interview to sharpen how you talk about your practice

UAL admissions reward evidence over polish: your portfolio, personal statement, and interview together carry more weight than a marginal difference in academic marks. Apply in Round 1, target the September primary intake, and pair a solid IELTS with a clear-eyed portfolio to sit in the top slice of the shortlist.

  • Yes, I did receive a scholarship for my course. Name of the scholarship is UAL International Postgraduate Scholarship Sep/Oct. The eligibility criteria for the it required us to be Post Graduate Students from the given list of countries. We were required to write essays on the given topic and make our case for the scholarship.
  • The award amount I received of the scholarship was GBP 7000.
  • I am not aware of this statistic but there are a few students who have received this scholarship.
  • I am not aware of how many students receive this scholarship but I do know that the amount received via this scholarship is GBP 7000 only.
