What Students Say
Likes
- Way of teaching - Teaching with real time illustrations and case studies really helped to understand the concept in depth and can be remembered for long.
- Helpful professors - Professors are so helpful in re explaining the concepts if needed and most importantly they are so kind to give their leisure time to know how we are doing and any help we need about concepts.
- Campus facilities - BCU has everything a student need at a campus.
Course Curriculum
- It was moderate, more theoretical
- I could say this course helped me to take the next step in my career, and it boosted my knowledge of internal audit and risk management to a deeper level. Hence, this course has just positive aspects, according to me.
- We used to have one class a day in the morning for 3 days of the week, and there could be around fifty students in our class. For our intake, I am the only Indian in the class.
Admission Experience
- I have only applied to Birmingham City University, as Birmingham City University is the only university that has the course Master of Science in Internal Audit Consultancy and Management, and my admission got approved at first instance itself, and thankful for being part of Birmingham City University Alumni!!! Also, the application and admission process were really smooth.
- My objective is to become a Certified Internal Auditor. As part of it, I firmly decided to pursue the course Masters in Internal Audit Consultancy and Management. Accordingly, I did research about the course, and as mentioned earlier, Birmingham City University is the only university that has the Master of Science in Internal Audit Consultancy and Management.
- I applied for the September 2021 intake. The course I want to pursue influenced my decision to choose BCU. The admission process starts with submitting an application with relevant documents, and later they request for Statement of Purpose, etc. And once all the documents are approved, they scheduled an interview, which was successful in the first go itself in my case, and got the admission letter.
Faculty
- We have a faculty for each module, and the quality of teaching was the best; they used to interact and clear our doubts very precisely. And, yes, they were happy to help with a full-time professional job through their personal network. I admire Julianne a lot, as she teaches in a unique, effective way, and she reaches out personally to check where we are lacking and what helps to improve, which made her stand out to me.
Campus Life
- Birmingham City University has many campuses, like The Curzon Building (where we attended classes), Millennium Point, Alexander Stadium, Parkside Building, and City South campus, etc. I am aware of our campus infrastructure, it has a good, large library with print facilities, etc., and three food courts at that campus, and they serve delicious food, of course, Starbucks coffee as well :). Many events used to happen, like Music nights, Holi events etc.,
Part Time Jobs
- Most working professionals pursue this course to upskill their theoretical and practical knowledge. But still campus has conducted placement programmes and career fairs by well-recognised companies like PwC, Azzets, etc. While pursuing the course, we were allowed to work only two hours per week, and after the course, we were allowed to work full-time for thirty-five hours a week. Coming to myself, I have not tried campus part-time jobs; I used to work for the NHS part-time.
- Students can earn a national wage. I was paid nine and a half GBP per hour on a monthly basis. I submitted a few job applications and finally got a job at the NHS. Usually, students can apply for campus part-time jobs as well as professional part-time jobs which are relevant to their course. Even though it is the same process as for full-time jobs, which include online applications, shortlisting and then interviews.
Placement
- As mentioned earlier, most of our batch students were employed, and a few went back to their countries to continue their employment back home. We can apply to relevant roles in career fairs conducted by Birmingham City University and can apply through LinkedIn, Indeed, Reed, BarclaySimpson etc., All major companies like KPMG, RSM UK, BDO Rise, PwC, Azzets, etc will hire graduates for graduate roles, and the average salary can vary for each company.
Accommodation
- My accommodation was off-campus, and it was a twenty-minute walk to the university. I used to stay in a shared accommodation and used to pay around three hundred GBP per month.
- I can recommend seeking the help of alumni, friends, or family members, primarily if they cannot contact trusted rental platforms near the university. To my knowledge, mostly Indian students stay at shared accommodations at a reasonable distance from universities.
Exams
- At that time, they accepted my 10th class certificate and other educational certificates for admission and no specific exams were required. For my admission, I have provided all my educational certificates from 10th class to Bachelors, along with Statement of Purpose, LOR and Letter of experience from my recent employer, of the relevant experience for this course.
Fees
- It was GBP 13,200, and it was yearly, and I paid the total fee in three installments. And they did not collect any other additional charges except the fee, and the university is very transparent about what they mention on the website and what they collect in real time at the university.
- No, other expenses (like hostel, transport, etc.) were included in the aforementioned course fee.
Scholarship
- Yes, that time the university offered me a scholarship of Two Thousand GBP, and I remember after the initial payment of the fee, they offered the scholarship, which was reduced from my course fee, and the balance course fee was paid by me in three installments within the time. And I am not aware of the other batchmates' scholarships and the amount they received or did not receive.
