What Students Say
Likes
- I liked the Dundee city itself as I preferred quite and countryside and my uni was in center of the city which made everything accessible
- The university had vast experience and opportunities to students May it be in funds , job opportunities, mental health awareness , DUSA activities etc
- The supervisors and professors were super good and helpful
Dislikes
- I WISH THEY HAD BETTER ORGANISED BUILDINGS . AS WE HAD TO SERACH FOR EACH BLOCK FOR A SPECIFIC CLASS . And also I wished they had religious temples which we most needed at times . I also think it would be helpful if they could reduce the Uni accommodation rent a tiny bit .
Course Curriculum
- I wouldn't say it was easy. I chose MSC in finance, which was quite different and at a more advanced level than what i studied in my bachelor's, and i did find it difficult to adjust at the start with the fast pace but it got much easier as time went by. There were a max of 3 classes per day.
- The positive aspect was there were a wide number of courses to choose from, and the negative was also there were too many, so it became confusing to choose between them.
- Average number of students was around 40.
- There were a lot, around 13 of them, 40.
Admission Experience
- I applied to the following universities:
- University of Dundee – first preference I did receive this at the end
- Swansea University – I received it much later and it did not match with my visa requirements
- The University of Edinburgh did have the course I desired, but also the starting date was too late.
- Oxford Brookes University – I did receive offer letter from this uni but I did not like the location and I felt Oxford was expensive.
- THE CITY , CULTURE AND I LOVE SCOTLAND AND DUNDEE WAS MUCH OF A CENTRE BOTH TO NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN SCOTLAND . And I had to write IELTS, and a minimum GPA of 3.4 was required. I did receive my CAS sooner than i expected and also i recieced a 6000 pounds scholarship, which helped a lot with my expenses and accommodation. Also the accommodation was a good price compared to outside apartments
- I applied for the January 2024 intake. It was at Christmas time in december and it was a bit hectic since I just graduated with my bachelor's in september and i had to get my decision before dec 15 as visa offices close down in the unitef kingdom . So I thought It would be difficult but due to proper documentation and also the cover letter and requests, I got it easily within 15 days.
Faculty
- The ratio is 12:6 it was equal and also they were very friendly and helpful and always guided us through the exams and projects. Especially with the dissertation project, which went on for 3 months. Also, teachers do give suggestions about part-time jobs and other side hustles through their experience.
- I think the most memorable and best faculty member I like is MR RILWAN. I had the best time and experience with this person, as he guided me and encouraged me a lot throughout my course and exams.
Campus Life
- They have around 7 campuses. As for the locations, I don't remember exactly but where I stayed it was right beside the main campus of Dundee, which is the school of business. And they also had a campus at the city centre, which was quite far, around a 10 mins walk .
- There were 3 libraries and were huge and very accessible. And also sports facilities were quite good, as football was famous in Scotland.
- They celebrated a lot of fests and also club events took place once in a month regularly; sometimes it used to go up to a week dull of events during Christmas
Part Time Jobs
- There were other jobs, like requiring g for DUSA which had a good pay and also jobs at the uni supermarket, as it was huge and it was a fixed pay of 15 pounds per hour.
- Maximum number of hours allowed per week was 12 or 13 also based on your academic timetable it was very convenient, as they would allot us according to that
- Campus part-time jobs were quite accessible just had yp pass the interview and a few questions and training for a day and u would get hired.
- They prefer working off campus, as they get more exposure and also can negotiate their pay.
- They could work 2 or 3 part-time jobs at the same time during Christmas, as it was mostly full-time during those times. And pay was quite high. Steps involved are you submit your resume. They conduct a 20 min interviews on the spot and contact you within 4 working days.
Placement
- There are a lot of opportunities to take into consideration. You can continue your part-time into full-time with a good amount of pay and also apply for side hustles.
- They give you your choice of work hours, usually when remote. And it's the best since u can do it at your comfort and also they make sure to repeat the contract so we r sure about the guidelines and opportunities while we work with them.
Accommodation
- On-campus accommodation.
- They had different units for different courses and were pretty spacious and had a communal kitchen area where we could meet other flatmates and communicate and celebrate birthdays and such.
- There were 6 rooms for one flat where I stayed. I would still recommend choosing University accommodation as it is super safe and also all the amenities come with the contract price. I stayed in uni accommodation so it was just 2 minutes away from the main building.
Exams
- IELTS Is The Only Exam I Gave For My Admission . Your Past Academic Records (10,12,bachelors If Done ) And Your Past 3 Months Bank Statements And also Your Loan Documents If Taken Should Show Your Accommodation And As Well As Your Living Expenses .
- 2 LOR Letters From Your Previous Uni Signed And CV And A Cover Letter Along With Your Visa Application Status.
Fees
- Total fees were 21000 pounds, for which I got 4000 Asian scholarship and an additional 2000 pounds for my academic excellence.
- They had both semester-wise and yearly but I paid in one slot so I don't know about the semester-wise exactly.
- Monthly expenses come to around 300 pounds, including food. Travel. And my other rent was around 11000 pounds for one year and it was a contract for one whole year with university accommodation.
Scholarship
- As I mentioned I did receive academic excellence scholarship and also Asian student scholarship at University of Dundee
- Also my friend received it as well. It was 6000 pounds.
- Also for financial aid and other details, they do provide loans for students who are struggling with money and also set up rental properties and suggest where would be affordable.
