Social work is about socially vulnerable people's living conditions, needs and experiences. The starting point is to try to understand and explain social phenomena and problems at individual and community levels, as well as create opportunities for change. Understanding of social issues is based on system, power and rights perspectives, and the analysis is often intersectional. You develop a practical understanding of problem solving and change processes when it comes to people in socially vulnerable situations. You study social work in the light of the broader health and welfare area. Issues that involve equality and participation, professional knowledge and development, as well as creativity and innovation are in focus. You also develop your understanding of leadership, groups and organizations as well as evidence-based practice and evaluation. The program is given in English and you are studying the courses in health and welfare together with students from other master's programs and postgraduate programs. The program is two-year but can be completed after one year with a master's degree. It is also possible to read the program at half-speed.
