A Good Overall College Experience

I feel the course curriculum is quite good and relevant for Diploma in Civil Engineering. I chose this course because I was interested in Civil Engineering and wanted a course that includes both theory and practical work. Overall, I am satisfied with the course structure. The combination of theory and practicals is the part I like the most.

I have not reached the placement stage yet, so I cannot give personal information about the companies visiting, packages, or the percentage of students getting placed. I have heard that placement opportunities are available for diploma students, but I cannot personally verify the placement statistics yet. My main plan after completing my Diploma in Civil Engineering is to pursue a B.Tech in Civil Engineering. Because of this, I am currently more focused on building my technical knowledge and practical skills during the diploma rather than immediately joining a company after graduation.

For my Diploma in Civil Engineering, I paid ₹55,100 as tuition fees for the first year. From the second year onwards, the tuition fee is ₹50,100 per year, which is paid in three instalments. I also received a ₹7,000 discount on my fees based on merit. The university provides various scholarship opportunities for eligible students as well, although I personally did not opt for any additional scholarship. Based on my experience, the tuition fee has been lower from the second year compared to the first year.

Campus life at SRMU is quite active, especially when it comes to events and extracurricular activities. There are several major events throughout the year, along with many smaller activities happening in between. The freshers event is called HARMONY, which is a full-day event for new students. The main annual fest is ANUBHUTI, which is a three-day event with different competitions and activities. It includes events like dance and singing competitions, along with a DJ Night and Star Night. It is one of the biggest events on campus and gives students a good opportunity to participate and interact with each other. Apart from this, there are inter-department sports matches and hostel sports competitions. The main sports event is ULLAS, a three-day event where students from other colleges also come to participate and compete. There is also a technical fest called VIVEKA, which is held over two days and includes technical activities and competitions. Along with these major events, many smaller events and activities are organised throughout the year. Overall, I like the campus life because there is usually something happening apart from regular classes. The events, sports competitions and fests give students opportunities to participate, meet people from different departments and enjoy college life.

I chose Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University mainly because I found the course and overall environment suitable for pursuing my Diploma in Civil Engineering. My admission process was quite simple and smooth. I first registered online through the SRMU admission portal. After that, I received a call from the admission team, and I visited the university personally. They explained the fee structure and other details of the course and also gave me a tour of the campus. After deciding to take admission, I completed the admission process and submitted the required documents. My document verification was completed smoothly after the semester had started as well.

The faculty members in my department are well qualified, knowledgeable, and friendly with students. They are approachable and supportive whenever students have doubts or need academic guidance. The relationship between students and faculty is generally positive, and the teaching environment is comfortable. The university follows a continuous assessment system with four main examinations: DIT 1: 15 marks Mid-Term: 40 marks DIT 2: 15 marks End-Semester Examination: 60 marks Practical evaluation is also included. The practical examination carries 30 marks, while regular lab performance and activities contribute 7 marks. The marks are combined as part of the overall evaluation, with the final assessment being calculated out of 100 marks. The examination system is manageable for students who regularly attend classes, complete their practical work, and prepare consistently.

I haven't explored the nightlife around the college much, so I can't really comment on late-night hangout spots outside the campus or the safety of the surrounding area at night. Inside the campus, there are several places where students can spend time after classes, such as the main ground, cricket ground, basketball court, volleyball court, kabaddi field and the pond area. The canteen is also available until around 9 PM, which is convenient for hostel students and others who stay on campus in the evening
