Course Curriculum Overview
Public Policy is the new MBA. Demand for public policy consultants have increased and since I personally wanted to work for the upliftment of the society by working in the civil service, Public Policy helps me better to understand the ground realities as we learn the indepth process of policies and outcomes analysis. Though MPP programe in IIT Tirupati has still not gotten recognition like MPP programs in IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, The skillsets and knowledge we get is really good. Our college often invites real-industry practicioners, bereaucrats, Public policy analysts and we learn from their experience and insights. We also ge the opportunity to attend seminars, conferences and events outside the college for which our faculty encourages us. Even though MPP here is still in its budding stage, the whole faculty and students are really capable and talented.
Internships Opportunities
Our course has 100% internship record. Facuty help every student getting into their desired internships and field by providing all help such as referalls or by bringing the target institutions. More effort is on the students part as we need to maintain strong connections with industry people and apply as much we can.
Placement Experience
Placement scenes are really bad. Even though there is 100% internships record, but in terms of placement, our course is not able to attract the big companies. Very less help is provided to the MPP students from the placement cell of the college. Students often have to find the jobs on their only through their own efforts and connections. Mostly convert into phd students here in the college itself. It requires certain cgpa fullfillment.
Fees and Financial Aid
The institute fees semester wise for institute and hostel affair fees are 33,850 and 31,260 respectively. Yearly it will be around 1,30,000 (general category). Hostel affair fees includes mess charges as well. Per sem, fees increases a little. TA stipend is not for MPP students. Institure fees for ST/SC/PwD students is around 9000 to 10000, But they pay the same amount for hostel and mess.
Campus Life
Campus life is boring as compared to other IITs. Main problem is that there are no good stalls, nescafe, dominos, or any decent 24 hours cafteria. Just a basic general shop and there too you cannot get everything. online orders takes lot of days in coming. Personally I feel that undergraduate students have more involvement in the clubs and organising things, They are in majority also so it makes sense. Night life is none. Its complete silence after 10-11 pm. Infrastructure for fun activities is very limited and small. And since diversity is alsi very less, one feel very confined to their limited groups and almost less interactions. North and South divide is also visible sometimes.
Hostel Facilities
MPP female students are made to stay in a four sharing room. it feels very congested. While the master pursuing male students are alloted single sharing rooms, we girls are made to stay in the congested four sharing rooms with the same fees. I honestly think that hostel authorities are partial towards us. We are four girls in a three-sharing room, while Btech girls have their own spaces comfortably. We are paying the same hostel affair fees and yet only MPP girls are made to stay like this. We have complaint a lot about this partiality but still nothing has been done.
Admission
IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi take MPP doesnt take B.Com Honours Degree graduate with three years of degree, ony iit left which was offering MPP without the limitation of three years degree course was IIT Tirupati. Hence, I got into it because nowadays, MPP is more demanded. It teaches technical skills also. The admission process included application, IIT Tirupati online test and then personal interview. They also considered GATE qualified students for the admission but eventually we found that none in our batch was selected from the GATE entry. In personal interview, all the faculty members were present. It was conducted online only.
Faculty
Our batch has only 13 students. Interaction with faculty is high and personal guidance can also be seeked. Faculty are often interacting and helping out students in everything. They are working very hard to give students opportunity to learn from other important people in the field and take guidance by organising all kind of mentoring sessions that are required. The course cirriculam is made according the the need of the industry. We are taught hardskills such as demanding software skills that are needed for the public policy students. Professors always takes the classes and never skips it. They even take extra classes in case students need more help in understanding something.
Interview Experience
Yes, There was an online written test followed by a personal interview round. Online test included basis reasoning and maths questions along with some polity related questions and general knowlege. My personal round lasted for 30 to 40 mins. Every faculty member was present. It was conducted online only. They asked about my goals, my interest in the course and some questions on certain policies.
Night Life
Almost zero night life. Ther are no cafes, stalls or any basic coffee shop also. There are few basic dhabas outside the campus on which the whole college relies. There also, variety is very less. There is nothing for students to explore. Even for going to those dhabas, you have to walk a lot, its not a safe route for girls especially during night time. for going to the main city, tirupati is like 1 hours away and our college is in yerpedu, which is on outskirts of tirupati city. Even for going to tirupati, you take local bus and tirupati also dont have much things to explore. theatre in the city is also very bad.
