What Students Say
Likes
- Great reputation in aviation industry. IGRUA is known in the aviation industry as the premier flying institute
- Job Placements. Although only sometimes, Air India and other companies come for campus placement.
Dislikes
- Lack of instructors. This can delay flying for students as the student to teacher ratio is very bad
- Unhelpful and unprofessional management. From administration to instructors most people lack professionalism
Course Curriculum Overview
Flying training is done as per DGCA syllabus. Progress checks are carried out at regular intervals. Ground training is very helpful in case you have not already given DGCA exams. The exam pattern and marking scheme is similar to actual DGCA exams
Fees and Financial Aid
Total course fee is 55 lakhs. Financial aid might be avialable but you have to apply to your state government for that. There is no per year fee as there is no fixed course duration. Total fee is paid in 4 installments
Campus Life
Campus life is okay at best. There is one annual fest held in winters which is a lowkey affair. Extracurricular activities are non existent. There are limited sports facilities and they are all in very poor state. Not your typical college life. There is one gym which is in a pretty poor state with half the machines not working properly
Hostel Facilities
Students have to stay in hostel. Rooms are alloted on shared basis with 2 people per room. Basic furniture like table, chairs and almirah are provided. Washrooms are shared between 2 rooms (4 people). Rooms are decent. There is no air conditioning, each room has a cooler which barely work. Mess food is okay at best. Both veg and non veg meals are provided
Admission
I chose IGRUA because it has a very good name in the industry as the leading flying school. Little did I know it was far from the truth. It used to be very good but not anymore. I chose this place because of limited exposure of aviaiton industry and the lack of brand name/popularity of other flying schools
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is very bad. This causes lots of delay in flying as one instrcutor is responsible for teaching more students than he/she can manage. The number of aircrafts is also not sufficient considering the number of students. The total fleet might be one of the biggest in India but the number of students is also very high. Exams are held during ground training phase. Each subject has 3 exams and they are overall not tough. The ground training is very helpful for DGCA exams. Ground trainers are very good and most are ex Air Force pilots with lots of experience. Flying faculty is not very good. There is a limited number of instructors and more than half of them are not helpful
Night Life
There is no, absolutely no night life. No hangout spots nearby as campus is located in a remote place in rural India. Nearest big city (Lucknow) is more than 90 km away. The only mess in campus closes after dinner time which is 9 PM. Hostel in time is 10 PM after which accoriding to rules you should not be seen outside your hostel
