What Students Say
Likes
- The quality of the faculty. They are very well-educated and foster a good learning experience.
- The library and other learning resources are also quite helpful. They give us access to a lot of e-books and research websites.
- Situated in a good area with a lot of entertainment options nearby.
Dislikes
- Very small campus with limited access to sports facilities.
- The management is sometimes slow in addressing issues.
- The annual tuition fees is sometimes not justified as the facilities sometimes do not live upto the cost
Course Curriculum Overview
The good choice of subjects like Business Analytics, Internet of Things, Financial Modelling, Introduction to Python, and Web Designing are some of the relevant subjects in our curriculum. These options made me choose this course, as these are not generic subjects. The curriculum sometimes becomes too theoretical. Some subjects are practical, but most are theoretical. There are only 2 official exams per semester, mid-sems and end-sems. Apart from this, the subject faculty can decide if they want to conduct tests or quizzes in class. The difficulty level varies from moderate to slightly difficult.
Internships Opportunities
Our batch is yet to go through the summer internships so I cannot give the best picture. But our seniors have received good companies for their internships and projects like KPMG, Outlook Publishing, ELCIA, etc. The roles varied from Sales and Marketing, Hr, Financial Analysts, etc.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for placements in their last year. And for the internships, it is provided during the 4th or 5th semester. The eligibility depends on having no backlogs or a CGPA above 6. Companies like KPMG, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., MyGate, Zepto, Ditto Insurance, etc. have come for campus placements. The highest package was around 6lpa I think. My plans after my degree would be to get work experience and then go for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yearly fees- Rs.3,50,000 Hostel and Mess fees per annum- Rs. 2,36,000 A refundable deposit of Rs.20,000 in the first year. The fee structure for international students varies. They have to pay 7675 There can also be an increment in fees every year, at about 5-6% the fee structure across categories like Management, SC, ST.
Campus Life
The campus life is very vibrant with events happening every now and then. There are several clubs and committees that make these events happen. The indoor facilities like the seminar hall or the auditorium, are the venues where the events are organised as they have a good seating capacity. Our annul flagship inter-collegiate fest, SYGNITE, happens every March. All the colleges in Bengaluru are invited for it. We have great participation in the competitions in it. Other facilities like our well-stocked library, the open amphitheatre, the well-equipped gymnasium and indoor sports facility make our college a fun place to be. The library has all the required resources and also offers online subscriptions. The librarian Mr. Babu is of great help always. The classrooms are also very spacious with state of the art facilities like smart screens, projectors, sound systems, etc.
Admission
I applied to many colleges like Christ University and IIM Indore for IPM. I got selected for BBA at Christ University but was rejected for the IPM program. I chose SCMS-B over all the other colleges because I thought it had a better brand value and would help me become skilled for my future. The admission process is fairly straightforward. There is an entrance exam, SET(Symbiosis Entrance Test), a WAT(Written Ability Test) and a PI. The cut-off for the first list would be around 90 percentile, but I could be wrong.
Faculty
The faculty is very approachable and friendly. The class strengths are not that huge, so it allows for a professor and a student to connect properly. The faculty are very intellectual, and they encourage good discussions that help us think differently. Professors like Dr Shiba, Dr Poornima, Dr Chandan, Dr Anandita, Dr Nikita, etc. make learning a great experience. They are always ready to clear doubts or help in any academic endeavour. The grading is based on mid-sems, internal marks and a final end-of-semester examination. The breakdown is: Internals (40%), which includes mid-sems too Externals(60%) This may vary for the upcoming batches. They are moderate and can be passed. But it also depends on the effort students put in.
Interview Experience
Yes, I had the WAT and PI rounds after the entrance test. There were pretty common and fairly easy topics in the WAT. The PI round was just for them to get to know about your personality traits The entrance test was difficult compared to these as it questions from quantitative ability, logical reasoning, verbal ability and general knowledge as well. The process was very automated and they sent regular updates via emails. The clear communication made the whole process easy. I am not aware of any other criteria required for the admission as merit is pretty much what you need to get in. I prepared for the entrance test by consistently practicing questions from those topics. I kept brushing up on my gk for the wat and pi rounds. Having good written and verbal skills helps in these rounds.
Night Life
Students like to unwind by hitting the gym on campus or sit with friends in the open amphitheatre. These are great places to hang out with friends. We also play basketball, badminton or table tennis to help us relax. Outside the campus, students can be found hanging out at Sitara for some chai or walking around the beautiful Electronic City. There are various cafes around the campus on Neeladri road. It has all the needs covered. There is also a newly built mall, M5 just 3kms away. It has a good food court, nice shops, and a movie theatre too. I am not aware about the hostel timings and rules. But it is pretty safe to move around in Electronic city, it is one of the safest areas. The roads are also well-maintained. The only con is that it is pretty far from the rest of the main city and travelling takes a lot of time due to traffic.
