College review (I.E.H.E)

Positive - English department is a very supportive department. They want the best for their students and it shows. The college supports the students in all their external endeavours ( internships, competitions etc) The flexibility students are provided with regarding entering and leaving the college. Negetive - A lot of improvement is needed when it comes to infrastructure, extracurricular and canteen. Syllabus is not as exclusive as compared to other institutions Lack of clean washrooms Lack of conveyance facilities

All the arts course consists of 2 core papers, 1 subsidiary paper and 3 foundation courses. Honors 1 and 2 are the core papers that encompass the main subject of your choice (in this case English Literature) Subsidiary is another subject of your choice you choose to study along with your honors subject (in my case it was History). The foundation courses are English language, Hindi and General Awareness. The core papers are well designed to provide in-depth knowledge of the subject where as the foundation courses are light and superficial.

Excellence offers a number of vocational courses that aim to develop certain skills in the students. Most of these vocational courses come along with an internship experience. Internships aren't a part of the main curriculum but can be opted for along with the several vocational courses.

Excellence has a fully functional and supportive training and placement cell that organises career fairs and placements in the college. The companies that come offer decent packages. The main highlight of the year is the sports and cultural fest 'Tarang' It is a week long fest that involve multiple interdepartmental sports competitions (Volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Football, Cricket, Badminton and Chess) The cultural part of the fest consists of competitions of dance, music, theatre, art and creativity. The fest culminates in the celebration of our ethnicity in the form of traditional days. There are a few departmental fests and occasional symposiums.

The fee for arts courses if affordable and appreciable. The whole tuition fee for an arts degree for 3 years lies between 45k-50k which means around 15k for each year. Apart from this an yearly examination fee is to be paid which is not much.

Excellence offers a list of scholarships both merit based and need based to its students. All one has to do to be eligible for them is to fill the forms for the desired scholarship which are available on the website of the college. Again to know more visit the website but what these scholarships mainly do is provide assistance in study material, of fee waiver etc.

The infrastructure is alright but the hostile facilities are not that great. There are several improvements that can be done regarding the maintenance for the classes and the washrooms. The library requires revamping when it comes to the collection of books it offers and the canteen barely passes the criteria. The upside is the proper parking space available for the students, enough open space and trees and flexibility provided to students for entering and leaving the campus. The hostel (not my personal experience but from what I have heard) needs to improve a great deal in the food they provide and the highly rigid rules they enforce on the girls.

There isn't any alumni association as far as I am aware. If there is one then we'll and good. Mostly the senior students leave the city for masters and are difficult to keep a track of but while they are in college they are mostly helpful and keep the environment friendly and healthy

The admission process for Excellence is pretty straightforward forward. One has to fill and online application along with a passport size picture and required documents and has to pay a small application fee. On the specified date, the list of the selected students is release who are then called for the further admission process. For the admission process one has to go to the college on the prescribed date and time along with a copy of their application, original documents (marksheets, ID proof etc) and a guardian. The documents are verified, the student is counselled regarding the preferred course and finally admitted after having signed required affidavits.

The faculty (English Department) is highly supportive and aptly qualified for their jobs. While the senior professors have their experience to offer the newer ones bring enthusiasm on the table. The younger professors who have recently started teaching are the ones to look out for as they are much easier to connect with.
