Likes
- The college infrastructure is really great, and the campus is spread over 44-acre area. Our college has 2 campuses one in Bidholi and another in Kandoli. My campus (Bidholi) is for Engineering, Design, Health Science, Computer Science.
- Our college is diverse community with students from across India, offering excellent cultural exposure and opportunities for social connections. With a variety of clubs, including technical, social, creative, dance and art.
- The college provides many opportunities for learning, coming forward and showcasing your talents through different events, clubs, fest etc.
Dislikes
- Despite significant financial investment in education, the faculty and resources at the college fall short of expectations. Many faculty members lack expertise and interest. The placement opportunities provided do not justify the high expenditure.
- The classroom environment is lacking, with basic school-style desks and a 60-person capacity. As Computer Science majors, we only visit lab once a weel, despite needing computers for every class forcing us to bring our own.
- Despite advertising a highest placement of 50LPA, the actual figure for computer science is 33LPA, with this year's highest at 16 LPA. Additionally, the promised 30% scholarship applies only to the 1,35,000-tuition fee, which wasn't disclosed earlier
Course Curriculum Overview
The underlying idea behind the curriculum is thoughtful and well structured , aiming to proide students with a balances blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It has the potential to prepare students effectively for real world challenges. However, the execution significantly falters due to the faculty's inability to deliver the content effectively and the lack of focus on practical, real-life applications. The semester duration is too short, spanning from second week of January to mid-April, with end sems starting as early as the first week of April. Additionally, the 10AM to 6PM classes, held five days a week with only an hour long break, makes the schedule extremely exhausting and leave little room for rest or self paced learning.
Internships Opportunities
In 1st year all the students have to work a summer 2 month unpaid internship called SRIJAN that is mandatory for all. This is a social internship that gives a sense of empathy and work culture for the future. Later in second year also we have to work an unpaid internship mandatory for all but this time related to our course. From 3rd year you can sit for paid internships which completely depends on you. The company for internships are not disclosed and keep changing.
Placement Experience
After 6 sems students can apply for interships in companies and from 4th year students sit for placements. The highest package for this year was 16 LPA the company was not disclosed. Even tho microsoft is advertised as one of the company for placement the truth is we are blacklisted from microsoft due to use of unfair practises.
Fees and Financial Aid
Detailed Fee Sructure (Excluding hostel)- Sem 1-223800 (20000 security) Sem 2-190300 Sem 3-245900 Sem 4-245400 Sem 5-287900 Sem 6-259400 Sem 7-288144 Sem 8-275144 Total=2098188 Yes there are some scholorships provied upto 30% but it is only applicable on the tution fee (137000 ) not on the academic services fee. 1st year scholorships are based on merit basis , for eg board merit, Jee merit, sports kota etc. Later there are uttarakhand domicile scholorship that is 30 percent off , documents required are Uttarakhand domicile certificate and ITR of both parents added needs to be below 12 LPA .There is an aumini scholorship, academic result scholorship for only 10% of the students and some other scholorships too but they have their own criteria .
Campus Life
We have a 4 day college fest named URJA and other events like Dholida, Diwali mela and others too. Festivals such as Dushera, Makar sankranti and others are celebrated. There are multiple clubs for every aspect such as dance , drama ,art , sport, mental health, technical are there that have their own fairs, events etc. The library does not have many physical books available and are moslty rented out.
Admission
I applied to multiple college and even got selected in VIT,JAYPEE and all but due to some personal reasons my parents decided for me to stay in Uttarakhand. UPES being the most reputed college here with a good placement i decided to go here. There are multiple admission criteria here like board merit, cuet merit, jee merit , sports kota or simply but funding the college. You can fill online form and later the offer letter will be given. Or you can go offline and complete the admission process without any delay.
Faculty
The student to faculty ratio mentioned online is 8:1. In 1st sem most faculty i met were also a begineer with no experience of teaching and didn't really know what they are teaching and also failed to create a class environment. I belive the faculty is great but the faculty i got is not up to the standard and considering the amount of money i am paying it's not worth it at all. The faculty focus on basics during lectures, but assigments, tutorial sheets, ccts, and exams are unexpectedly tough, making it difficult to score. For continous evaluation subjects, the grading criteria remain unclear, leaving students unsure of how their performance is assessed.
Night Life
Since i stay off campus i cannot tell you about the campus life. The gym in the campus is small with limited acces only for students froms sports background or they have to fill a form. Later a timing is provided only during that you can use gym. Gym pass mandatory. The college has like 3-4 snacks corners that are mostly full with people with having whataburger and dominos in the food court.
