Course Curriculum Overview

3

MBBS is very long and tough course, so it is vey necssary to study in a well organised pattern. Here the college plays a very important role. The timings of the lectures and pattern is well scheduled. However it is hectic as 8 -4 is large a college timing. But there is no ither to complete such a vast syllabus. From second year onwards postings begin, so here the theoretical aspects can be seen on patients , here students are able to get a exposure at hospitals and interact with the hospital staff an patients. Teaching methods should be more interactive and more practical based learning is required to become a better doctor.

Internships Opportunities

1

I am a 2nd year MBBS student, but as much I know about internship I saw my seniors leaving early morning and coming late night. Interns work hard to manage internship and doing PG preparation side by side. Intenship is done in SMS hospital itself with monthly stipend of about 21000/-.

Fees and Financial Aid

Although, SMS is a prestigious government college, but the fees is quite high as compare to AIIMS. Total Year wise fees is- 1.19 lakh for first year and 92 thousand for each subsequent four years. (Tution fees- 67000/- and other fees is about 30,000/-) (Registration fees - 20000/-) Also the fees is increasing every year. Tution fees is nil for girls and category students.

Campus Life

1

The only I regret to be in SMS that it is devoid of all the co curricular activities. The annual fest like thing which occur evry year in every college is not conducted every year. It occurs only when college has enough funds despite of its high fees. Also, we can't expect any other fest or evnt by college. There are no sports tournament conducted by college. Volleyball and basketball tournament is conduct by the seniors. But there is no such sports environment . There are also no clubs for dance, drama, or any activity. This year some seniors have took initiative for the clubs but no particular activity is conducted on daily or even weekly basis , they remain silent. Students have to do on their own level if they want shiw their talent as seniors are also busy in their exams and all. Library is well equiped with all typenof journals and textbooks . I like that.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels are well maintained. Although I don't like the location for girls hostel. Firstly it is situated across the college and moreover there is always some construction work ongoing behind that. In first year studnets are provided with 4 seater room, as the year preogess, we are promoted to 3, 2 and 1 seater rooms. In girls hostel, there are 2 floors 3 mess and common washrooms on each floor. Apart from this, there is one common room, one reading room and an open gym. Wheras in boys hostel there are basketball, volleyball and lawn tennis grounds also. So yes, a good hostel life for boys. Surprisingly I like the food of mess and many other students too. There are packet items available from chocolates to dairy products. There is also a canteen which has a nice menu and ,meals can be made on our demand. There is pre payment for meals, each diet is paid. Hostel fees is 33000 per year which is high for a government college.

Admission

I applied for the top five AIIMS and a few top national medical colleges before sms but the cutt off was high and my NEET score was not enough to match that enough for SMS. There is a huge hype of SMS especially in north India; also it has Asia's laargest OPD. Due to these factors I preferred SMS to get a good patient exposure. Every neet aspirant including me prefer AIIMS due to low fees, best faculties, infrastructure and other facilities. Admission process is very lengthy but only for one time. Hundreds of papers, documents, chaos but finally its going to take you in your medical college.

Faculty

4

The college is well equiped with experienced faculties. Teachers are really hardworking and provide the best content which can be cleafly visible in the presentations they deliver. It is obvious that if you sit at the back and want to enojy as backbencher , then you will able recognize the gold in front of you and blame the teachers for wasting time . But if someone realy tries to concentrate on the content and the lecture then it will just took 1 revision to master the topic. But some lectures are still boring no matter how much you concentrate, it can make you sleep at the front bench. Some professors like Vijaylakshmi mam can make you fall in love the a subject like anatomy, wheras a few , its better to not to reveal the name, just read the ppt and finish the class. There are three internal exams and a final university exam. The level is moderate. On an average 6 students out of 250 repeat the year due the failure in university exams. Course curriculum is well established with SGT, LGIT, SGIT Seminars ,labs etc.

Night Life

1

A new thing is happened, a gym is opened this year but that one is paid. There is no cafeterias or any public place inside the campus. Since boys hostel is in the college capmus only so they can enjoy the nightlife (walking in the campus in night) but girls hostel is across the road with strict hostel timings of about 10 pm so no night life for girls. I once visited IIT Delhi at night and imagined the a beutiful colleg life like that. But my dear friends, please don't imagine anything like that, there is no such thing inS SMS, not even a little bit.

Placement Experience:

We became eligible for placement after internship. Till internship,we don't have any choice to work anywhere else unless your family own a hospital. After internship,we can join a hospital as mbbs doctor or we can opt for examination like NEET pg or UPSC CMS or M.O. Highest package is 1-2 lakhs per month Lowest package is 50000 per month Percentage of students getting placement -80% My plan is to qualify neet pg and get a high ranked course .
