Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum of film and video touches upon all the basic skills one needs to start working in the industry. The course curriculum though well structured is often loosely followed by the faculty, who teach using their personal experiences rather than a specific book. The course could include a few more practical activities like studio visits or short film competitions. The examination timings seem apt, on how they do not interfere with the semester and take place only after the completion of all the modules.
Internships Opportunities
Since I am only in my 3rd semester I haven't had the oppurtunity to delve into an internship. But internships are indeed. provided usually in your 3rd year. There are several projects where the college collaborated with other colleges or organisations like the Finland Embassy.
Fees and Financial Aid
Year wise tuition fee is Rs.3,20,000 per annum. I have paid only Rs.1,60,000 per annum as a result of 50% scholarship. Other degrees like B.Va have a fees of Rs.1,02,000 per annum whereas B.Des (AGD) has a fee of Rs.4,02,500 per annum. We have three tiers of scholarship, 20%, 35%, and 50% based on your UCEED/NID rank or your results from the WUD examination.
Campus Life
The annual college fest 'CULT' is held on every October and is a three day event. Unfortunately there is only a small library not bigger than a room and doesn't have all the books required. The classrooms are all fitted with AC's and the AGD labs have good systems to work on. Film studio has a variety of equipment of professional level. Major sports courts are availaible, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and even a football ground. However a lot of the time sports amenities are not provided. Clubs function until the cultural fest, CULT on October, following which remain inactive.
Hostel Facilities
The rooms are typically triple sharing, with shared bathrooms. They also provide water heater, AC, electricity and WiFi. However the WiFi gives out a weak signal. The meal quality is decent but it's only vegetarian and often repetitive. The hostel fees is Rs.1,65,000 per annum . I have not rented a room of PG, but TDI (kingsberry and lake grove) apartments are a common listing for our college students.
Admission
I applied to MIT WPU and got admission as well. However, WPU being a relatively newer university didn't yet acquire all the equipment needed for the field and had a higher tuition fee. The admission process for WUD requires you to write an examination, or you can alternatively apply using your UCEED/NID rankings. Post examination is the portfolio and interview round, where your design portflio is submitted followed by a personal interview with one or more faculties. Depending on all the three criteria, youo will be eligible to avail for scholarship.
Faculty
We have 2 or more faculty for every course, however only one permanent faculty for film and 2 to 3 visiting faculty. The faculty is pretty open and efficient. Some of the good faculties are Prof. Lolita Dutta (Dean SOC), Mehul Bhanti (Visiting) because of their understanding nature and deep knowledge about the particular field. Shraddha Mehta (Now has left), due to over management and issues arising with other faculty. We have juries and theoretical examinations at the end of the semester. The number of examinations varies with the course. For film and video, semester 3, we have 3 theory examinations and 1 jury.
Interview Experience
There was a written test but I did not write it as I directly applied using my UCEED rank. There is however a personal interview, where they ask questions about yourself. I prepared for the interview by researching about my particular field, career paths and why I want to pursue the said field.
Night Life
There is a small gym with the basic equipment required. The gym is in the girls hostel and can only be visited till 9.45pm Hostel entry timings are 9.45pm whereas college entry timings are 8.00pm The campus is relatively small so does not have any fixed hangout spots, however outside campus, ASG cafe is a common hangout spot. Since you have to be back in college before 8pm, there is essentialy no night life.
